Are those parts shaded in blue on the sprue map? Probably cheaper to package them all than deleting them.

Good for you.

~ Jeff

Yeah, now that I looked they are the blue shaded segments of the sprues. All I need to do is add the bolt heads on the rear.

Whoo Hoo! I see "King Kong" in my future as well.

As I posted earlier, I'm building Tasca's M32B1 TRV that I started well before the start of the Sherman campaign. So it's gong to be a while before I can build my DML Composite Hull Sherman. Just thought I'd post my present progress since it's sort of an unofficial Sherman build.

I've been following your build Joel, it looks really good. Hard to believe you only started in November (I think) as it seems like it's been going on for ages.

Originally I'd planned on doing an M51, though I think we're pretty well covered for Israeli Shermans. So I started thinking along the lines on an E2, I also think we're pretty well covered for E2 builds! So, is anyone planning on doing an E8?

Chris, thanks for the positive feedback. Still can't believe how many parts there are.

I've seen a few E2's mentioned, but no one has posted a E8 yet. I don't think there is a campaign rule that you can't build the same version as someone else.

No, but I'd like to do something different. If I can't do something 'unique' with a vehicle that was built in one way or another over fifty thousand times, I've got some serious issues.

Some interesting projects going on here. I’m also build mine straight from the box and a little bit jealous of some of the aftermarket parts being used.

I’ve finally started working on my build and in the process decided to add another Sherman to the mix. I’ve forgot I had dragon’s Sherman II in my stash of kit and will be building along side my firefly.

Joel - my first time seeing your 'other' build. Very good one for sure.

Christopher - you have Sherman fever I see and have a great start out the gate.

I've actually have two other shermans in verious states of build, a M4A1 76 and a M4A3 76. I'm no expert on the sherman and to be honest not a big fan of them. I just happen to like the look of them and breaks up some of my other builds.

Hey Ansell... welcome aboard.

Since you have already enlisted, all we usually do is show the kit before we start on it and we'd like to see a lot of progress pics, but most modellers only show a few. Your discretion.

A finished pic here and at the gallery is all that's required as is outlined here: http://armorama.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Campaigns&file=index&req=showcontent&id=611
~ Jeff

Hello. Thanks for the info jeff. Unfortunately i already started on the kit and i didnt took any pic before starting. Im not that far into completing the assembly though. In the guideline its written that it must not be started yet so I guess im DQed lol. Please let me know if i can still join

Ansell... as long as you're not too far along I'll accept that. And thanks for being honest about it.

You can get out of it that easily.

So, show us what you got!

Craig, you really did a great job on that transmission cover. Looks like it really snugs up well to the upper hull.

Ok, I've gotten some work done on my M32B1! This is my first campaign, so if this is too much detail just let me know.

Started with the suspension. Instead of scraping 144 pop rivets off the sprue, I punched them with a Waldron sub-micro and .005" sheet, then attached with a drop of Tamiya extra thin (and for you mathmaticians out there, I did the fronts only!)

Then did the return roller mounting holes using a #76 bit in a dremel and a jig I made from brass sheet

I plan on making this the cargo for my Dragon Wagon (Build log here: http://armorama.com/forums/196568#1646486 ) with a blown engine, so I may open up the hatches and add this (the engine, not the T-34!):

Also, not too keen on the empty driver's compartment, so I grabbed some pieces from a spare Academy Grant and modified it into a rudimentary interior based on photos from the Ampersand "Heavy Wrecker" book:

Hopefully good enough for what you'll be able to see through the turret and an open hatch or two!

Then added a little detail to the firewall

Had to fill/scrape a lot of ejection marks before I assembled the hull

Textured the cast final drive cover with Mr Surfacer 500, added some Archer casting marks based on a photo in Allied and Axis.

Very impressed with the engineering on this kit (my first Tasca) The places where the bolt strips attach even have the holes where the bolts would have gone?!?! That's crazy

Thanks for looking, more soon!

Terry

Too much detail?

With your builds we always want more!

I've decided to make a start on my Firefly tonight, here is the start photo.

Instructions seem to be suitably vague......

Terry, great start to a very complex kit. Sure will make for a interesting build. You already solved one of my issues with the kit, and that was those nasty rivets. Just couldn't slice them off the sprues. Your method really works well using a punch set Well have to break down and finally buy one. Nice touch with the added detail to the drivers compartment. Your brass template for the roller mounts is a simple, yet effective way to drill the 4 holes in each bogie so they're exactly the same.
Looking forward to following your build.

I got some better pics tonight. The transmission cover still isnt completely dry so I need to sand more on it later. I decided to do the Cologne Jumbo. Does anyone know for sure if it's a 75mm or 76mm????

Okay I have a question for everyone, what is the chance that a Sherman could roll around the battlefield with it’s front fenders missing? The reason why I ask is the Sherman II kit from dragon only comes with photo etch fenders with the sand channels attached to them. I try to steer clear from using as much photo etch parts as I can, just a fan of them. Besides these parts in the kit are going to be a real paint to get shaped right.

That is like the one thing never seen in period photos. Once the extended fenders and sand shields were removed the short fenders left almost always remained in place.

What type of fender do have? I'm sure folks, myself included, here might have something in plastic in their spare parts boxes.

I was sure about the fender so I wanted to ask around before I got too far into my build. I have the dragon el alamein sherman. I have tons of spare sherman part, but their all for the A2/A3 series and not the early cast hull type.

awsome work on the Jumbo. what kit are you using. I'm Doing a Tamiya kit 1/35 scale Jumbo. It's the first Kit Build for me in 20+ years so i'm gonna stick with a out of box build on mine. like the detail work youve done. may have to build another jumbo myself later on.

That and the three piece transmission requires a different fender configuration. Unfortunately I don't have any of those in my stash.
