Thanks for the kind words, looks like I'm going with dk yellow and green diagonals over the primer for the hull and leaving the turret be.
As for going too far over the pre-shading, I do that all the time. Somehow I managed to stop soon enough this time, I think/hope.
Looking at that IS3 over on ML Constructive comments, I am still blown away at how garish the color modulation looks before any weathering, like throw it in the trash over the top, too much. Then 497 layers of paint and product later, BAM. perfection.
For what it is worth, the E-50 is on sale at Squadron.com in their summer sale for about $30.
I had picked up a set of the Aber etched radiator grills, but after laboriouslly folding and twisting all 497 vanes into allignment, they look pretty goofy sitting on top of the kit detail, and I am not about to start cutting on the hull at this point.
I guess I'll save them for the E-75 or E-50 flak.

It definatly looks like you have stopped in time mate. You have left the perfect amount dark patches in the right places.
The drivers/radio operators hatches on the top/front of the hull is perfect! The dark patches around the edge of the panel looks spot on.

Thanks for the kind words, I realy liked the upper hull crew hatch panel, so I masked it off as well as the engine deck.
The vallejo did not stick as well to the engine grilles as I would have liked, but it's been really humid here. I can fix that later.
diagonal stripes of post it note adhesive and some AK late war light dunkelgelb, then punched some holes in a piece of paper with the punch and die set.
Sprayed dk green and then light green, trying to offset the pattern. I do not like that patch on the upper left of the hell front, but I will fix that later I suppose.
The barrel is still too light as well, but hopefully a dk grey filter will tone that down too.
Mike
now to wait until things dry a bit before pressing on.

Well, it's done!
Here is my Geschutzwagen Tiger from Trumpeter.
Is there a Campaign Gallery that we need to post a picture in? I went back through the thread but didn't see a link.
Thanks guys.

Ditto Bill!
wow!
That looks great.
Did you use the Uschi whats-er-face frisket masks?
Whose paints are those? AK late war set? What did you use for the primer?
It's exactly how I am hoping mine turns out when I finally dig it out again..
You seem to have dealt with all 497 e-pin marks in the inner hull sides.
That's when I put mine back in the pile.
Any glitches in the buildup?
I do think it hallarious that your kit has an mg in the nose, but the E-50 does not.
At the point where the crew needs a self-defence hull-mounted mg, the game is already over. just saying...

Ok so this is copied from the mistaken post I put into the 88 campaign late last night.. doh! then went to bed and missed the edit period..
so things were a little vivid after the basepainting, but now after filters (brown for Dk yellow and grey for winter cammo on the engine deck and turret) things are toned quite a bit down.
used to look like this
the filters really do make a difference.
there is still a little water mark staining from the wash that has to cure a bit before I can 'stump' (who knew this was an art term.. not me!) it back with a clean brush and some thinner.
I will probably re-do the grey filter after clearcoating this again. The dusty chalky effect was lost under the satin coat and washes.
It's hard to see the change in the turret with the grey filter (no washes yet) but the top has not had any filter and hte sides have
I'm really happy with the filter/wash effects on the skirts so far.
more tomorrow.

HI there, some cool builds going on here. This is the sort of thing I like to give you a break from the norm .
I know this one ends on the 31st of July but let see how far I get with this:-

progress
I haven´t decided if I shall build the complete turret (with inner detail) or not, but whatever happens I shall finish by the said date.

Nice choice Paul. Once I get my fill of the SALADIN today I will start on my E50 for the PP Campaign.
So you're not alone on getting a late start AND we can always ask for an extension for legitimate builds!
(I AM going to catch up)

It's a great fun little kit, but 9/10th of the work is inside the turret.
mine was started just before the campaign and is still not done.
The AFV Modeller magazine 'superking' builds in the late 50's early 60's issue numbers are a HUGE help in detailing the innards.

Sal & Mike - Thanks for the kind words! I did use the Disc Camouflage Masking Stencil from Uschi van der Rosten for the camo. Really easy to use! I recommend them if you want to do a disc camo scheme.
Mike - the primer I used was just regular red oxide primer from Rust-o-leum and "Ruddy Brown" primer from Krylon. Most of it is the Rustoleum primer, some parts of the gun are the Krylon primer.
Now for what paints were used ... I've actually been experimenting with different paints for a while. The paints I used for this are just regular craft paints that you would find at Micheals. The green is "clover" and the brown is "maple syrup" both from FolkArt. They have to be thinned down quite a bit, and because of that you have to spray them multiple times to get good coverage. Even doing that they can go on kind of thick. Not enough to cover over details but if you mask for a hard edge scheme for instance they will leave a slight ridge where the masking was. Because of that I would not use them next time I use the masking stencils. For the most part, I've gotten decent results ( I think???)
Any glitches ... well the kit tracks are pretty stiff so it's difficult to get them to sag properly. I couldn't get them to, so I bought some Friuls. ouch.
Other than that, and the multitude of knock out marks, it went to together pretty well. The fit was quite good considering the size of the parts. (no warping!)
Mike, what you've done with the filters so far looks good. I have to say when I first saw the scheme you put down I wasn't that crazy about it but it looks a lot better know that it's toned down a bit. Actually it makes me wish I had done something "edgy" with my camo scheme! Anyway, I'm looking forward to how it comes out in the end.
Paul - You can get it done in time. More building, less computer. :-)

No rest for the wicked, here's more of this madness
The turret sprues 2/3rds empty:-
turret together and the start of the main armament:-
As you can see some parts are still not fixed, seats and spent case holder, and the turret floor is not yet glued to turret floor shell to ease the painting.
I´m off to have a beer now maybe some more tomorrow.
Mike, thanks for your tip but I have not yet checked them out, I shall keep on at this until I get really stuck and then use your advice

Making progress to beat that deadline!
Sorry... no pictures of the cantilever suspension components. Those I'd like to
forget.
BTW, those tracks have got to go! Maybe some transport tracks as that is what should have been in there to begin with.

Hi Jeff, glad I´m not alone in this race against time . As for the tracks, if you can get them in time then use the Hobby Boss King Tiger late tracks, Item no. 81002. i used these on my E50 and E75 and they a lot better than the vinyl things in the kit
Here's a pic from my gallery:-
Paul
Edit:
Here´s a better picture, and the tracks cost only 5€ here, which is about 4.5$ I think.

Nice Paul. Looks like a few modifications to that E-50.
I have moved onto the rear of the tank
making a few changes like omitting the armored muffler shields. (if that's what they're called)
I doubt I'll get different tracks in time but will replace them soon after. If the cement holds up I'll immerse them in some very hot water just before installing them and worry about weathering the transport tracks. I'll check with my LHS as they have a few boxes of Friuls behind the glass.

@Jeff :
The E-50 is a great build, no worries, no problems.
Here's how my rear plate turned out:
and rear deck
@Paul
That HobbyBoss kit is very detailed, wasn't expecting that I admit. .. mhmhhh maybe I'll add those to my 400 page Wishlist
