Really Phill? What the hell happened? Did I miss a post? Or has New Zealand sunk? I haven't been watching the news lately so that very well could have happened and I wouldn't know!

Christopher, Phill was a part of the Jello Pudding expedition that averted the Mayan prophecy from coming true. Unfortunately, the trip will keep him out of country for a few more days.

For those that don't get the reference, Jello Pudding had an ad campaign where they sent an expedition to offer a pallet of pudding at the top of some Mayan ruins.

Wow, thanks Phill!

Alex, I don't think anyone would understand as I doubt many people have a mental catalog of Jello ads.

There's one for after Dec 21st but it's not up yet. I'm sure that by Monday it will be etched into your brains through repeated replays.

Silly Mayans .......

I was wanting to build a light , amphibious recon vehicle kinda like this :

But with teeth .....

So I bought these

So its just a kitbash , no major scratchbuilding here , gonna beef up the tyres and suspension , fit a lift kit and a diesel engine .

Shoot and scoot .... thats my plan ..use the waterways ..

Good luck y'all

Picked up an Italeri HEMTT for this. Will build as a post-apoc gun-truck where the main threat is maruading gangs rather than zombies. Still need to work out the funn back story but it will be bristling with guns and granade launchers

Hi Zon , I picked them up a couple years ago at a book store ,they were from a USA based toy company Z.O.M.B.I.E. they are unfortunately 60mm tall , while 1/35th scale figures are about 50mm .

Zon, I'd already posted those figures back on something like page fourteen I think. Knew they were out of scale and I thought they were sort of 'cartoony' for most peoples tastes. Believe they have a couple different sets of four or five figures.

Hope everyone had a good holiday.

Welcome back after X-mas break.
My loving whife made me happy with a large working light for my painting table.
Now I see better than ever, where my painting is suboptimal

OK, nevertheless I call the rear gunner and the 40mm gun (which will be placed in the cargo area of the Bronco) ready.
Here the pictures:

... no more chocolate chips for me today ...

I will mount the hands, when I fix everything on their base in the cargo area.

Brian, your Zombies are a nice idea - thank you for that reminder.
I just bought them via EBAY - thank god they are relatively cheap...
.. you never know when you need zombies

cheers
Thomas

Thomas, either you've confused some words or you have no self-confidence! That's one of the best figures I've ever seen (despite the missing hands)! He even has teeth!!! If all you needed was a large lamp to paint figures like that you should have invested ages ago.

Thank you for your kind words, Christopher.
My self-evaluation is based on more than 5 years of pure figure-painting.
And believe me - what I have seen there is lightyears away from that figure.

There's no real shading or color-blending to be found here (OK that would be a hell lot of work on the camo...). I suppose there was an issue with the primer - I could not get my white on black undercoat correctly on that resin.

Just to show you what I tried to achieve:

Or, if you like to see more pictures (and maybe read a little german blabla:

tutorial in german language

cheers
Thomas

Thomas, I have to agree with Christopher that the figure looks great. I think the colors will really show well from inside the Bronco.

Ppft, he's a showoff. He even painted the little metal eyelets where the laces would go though!

My German isn't that good Thomas, not enough for anything technical and not all of it quite translates to English. Funny example of that is you say you 'threatened' to write that SBS. That's how it translates at least.

I hope to take a lot of information from that thread. It's a very cool SBS indeed.

Tall tales and true .....A background story

True

18 kilometres off the coast from Perth , Western Australia lies Rottnest Island .

http://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&frm=1&source=web&cd=11&cad=rja&sqi=2&ved=0CH0QFjAK&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.westernaustralia.com%2Fen%2FDestination%2FRottnest_Island%2F9009604&ei=GEzcUKzlBIWfkQX0loDgAQ&usg=AFQjCNF_RSr84IVhC8-TwWksUu3aAxUGnQ&sig2=WgrO_76Pqtv5DOPq9Npc-g

Here is an island perfectly placed , with a staff of local police , a small hospital , grounds and maintenance staff , wind generated power , artesian water supply and fantastic boating and fishing all round .
The prevailing south westerly winds cool this island and blow towards the mainland to the east .

Rottnest island during the second world war , was the base for a coastal defense battery , and indeed the emplacements and tunnel system associated have been restored and are part of a tour on the island .

On the south east corner of the island is Kingston Barracks , still used by the Royal Australian Army for training ,20 km across the Rottnest Channel to the mainland is Campbell Barracks at Swannbourne , home of Australia's SAS Regiment
The SAS regularly use Kingston Barracks and the water around Rottnest Island for training .

Tall Tales

So here then is my premise .

Theres a dirty war , a dastardly power launches an attack , firstly taking out the electronics by some super jammer , then a missile attack on the cities . The missiles contain not only explosives but also a deadly virus , causing the dead to rise again ...

Zombies .....brain eating mutants ...

Our heroes are a troop of SAS on Rottnest Island , and the isolation and distance keep them safe . Theres a staff and visitor population of around 1500 people there .

Now SAS are all silence and sneaky , so they watch the city burn ( theres an electronics jam ), up and down the coast , all along the horizon are smoke by day and glowing fires at night .

After a week the electronics come back , but theres no phone system , its back to short wave radio , and the mainland still burning ...

Reports are collected , information gathered , all over the world the same thing is occuring , heavily populated areas burn , isolated communities wait and reach out ..

Theres a military museum on Rottnest Island , and in that museum is a little amphibious Volkswagen , perfect for beach landings , drive on , drive off , if it can be made sea/road worthy .

A bit of ingenuity ,a workshop , a gas axe , some parts from something more modern ...

Brian: Thanks for the info on the Zombies. Nice story. Can't wait to see the regiment hit the beach!

Chris: Thanks for the reminder. They probably are too cartoonish, and big, for this, but they could make some decent targets for the bb gun.

Thomas: most excellent figure and grenade launcher.

I'm entering the fray. The backstory is not resolved yet, but the basic idea is that this old Soviet relic is transformed into a commercial Zombie Zafari hunting vehicle.

The main kit is Trumpeter's BTR-60P in 1/35th scale, Academy's US Machine Gun set, and a couple of Trumpeter M-4 rifles. The random sprue is a Dillon Aero Minigun from Dragon's UH-1N Gunship.

Brian, not to poke a hole in your back-story but, wouldn't the blast from the explosives kill the virus/bacteria?

Hmmmmm......

Good point Christopher...

OK , well , clearly , any nasty power seeking to spread a zombie apocalypse over the world would have thought out how to spread the virus ...

perhaps the misslies might be a type of cluster bomb , seeding the virus via bomblets relased over a wide area prior to the explosive warhead reaching its target .

or the virus could be spread as a smoketrail from the missiles as they get close to the target ...

It would be possible to poison the water supply with a waterbourne virus ,

Dunno ...thats tech stuff , I'm more interested in zombie cheerleaders

Thomas ; please , please , please paint a zombie cheerleader , your scavenger and driver both look fantastic !

Looking forward to having a fun build campaign
