Zon, the instructions showed it when they were folded, but not when they weren't, the attachment points on the floor are way too far from the side walls... I guess I'll fold the seats next time..Thanks again !

John: too bad about the confusing instructions. Your Marder still looks awesome.

I've got the 1/48th scale version. I did a speed build (for me anyway) this weekend and am now ready to go to paint. I was leaning toward an Afrika Korp scheme, but the family voted for a winter job. It is and will remain OOB.

At this point the upper and lower hulls are not glued to allow for easier painting. Also the gun is not fully pushed into its slot as I was concerned I would break it getting it back out for painting. The bustle rack, exhaust and Notek are loose and will be glued after the lower hull is painted.

Hello Gentlemen,

Zon, nice 1/48 build. Id like to build more in that scale myself. Lookin' forward to pain and Winter wash.

I attempted to build the ammo rack frame and it didnt go too well. I dont have any kind of etch mate/hold-n-fold and the old school glass and razor blades werent "Cutting it"...pun intended. I decided to scratch one up instead and i think it turned out well.

Thanks fellas!

@Zon
I read the instructions again, mmhhh... it was my fault (as usual.. ) I will fix this for sure.
Great work on your Marder too !!

@Gary
Yup, it turned out really good !!
That's great work Gary !

My update:
Wheels

Hull painted German grey and then Dark Yellow, also applied some filters before adding the decals & weather it, I wanted to have some different tones as a base start.
Still a lot to do here.

Also started working on the tracks and main gun.

John;

Hi! Good progress, there, friend! I keep seeing these older-style Marders pop up here, I'll find myself pulling my kit down from the pile and making it one with this campaign!

That seat location biz has me slightly flummoxed- I always thought that those seats nestled right against the hull-sides... seeing as they fold over it (one of the stTrangely cool features of this particular Marder!) And of course we all keep insisting that Mr. Tamy-San engineers his kits to the bees knees and all that. Did he flub things with the seat set-up positions?

The wheels look like a good start. I'm always somehow impressed - even weirdly thrilled, when I see 38(t) wheels get done - they look somehow like the "quintessential" tank road-wheel!

Further forward, I notice that your driver's hatch lid looks off its hinges? Maybe it can be repositioned now before you launch into your fine work?

Thanks Bob !

No the seats were my mistake..
Thanks for the info on the hinges, I didn't noticed it.. it's been taken care of..

I corrected one of the seats so far, painted with steel, some of the tools and the spare tracks too.

Started getting the base coat for the muffler too.

And I agree with your 38t Wheels... I wish they tried these wheels on the PzIV...Panthers & Tigers.. It would have made our hobby easier...
Stay tuned !

Oh, those jump seats John. On my first Marder I just hung them from the side because I was going to pose the figures in the fighting compartment, but never got that far.

Maybe I'll finally use them on this one?

John: nice work on the paint. This is turning out really well.

Gary: thanks for the comment. Your scratching is great. I think it is better than the PE.

I'll be building a Marder I for the campaign. Its a MB models kit thats been sitting on my shelf for many a year (1994). I'm going to use the running gear from a RPM Lorraine 37L.

Hi Sal,
We'll be waiting patiently ..

Small update,

Gun parts

Since the Dark Yellow paint was applied as the tanks arrived in Africa, and the Tamyia paint chart left some german grey paint to be visible on almost every panel, well here it goes.. After these pics I went to work on the muffler again.

I still have to paint the equipment, apply the decals and the get ready for weathering.... and the gun ... and the tracks...Still a lot of work ahead.

Hey John, Did you use the hair spray method to do tha chipping? Looks great!!!

Man...this is a slow build. I spent all evening last night assembling the wee box and attaching PE the the ammo tubes...WHEW!!! Tha Box was a pain in tha ***! But i reckon im happy with it.

I usually keep a tidy bench when i model, mainly because half my bedroom is my modeling area and i need to keep up appearances in case the landlord shows up or relatives and the like, but just from doin that tiny box....that wee tiny box!!! my bench looked like this last night.

I know that might not be messy to some, but a tiny box and i need all that crap!!!

Thanks fellas!

Gary,

Great work on the ammo rack, I can imagine it would have been a bit hard to do in PE without the right bender. Funny thing, I have a couple PE benders and end up using square nose pliers for most of the bends I do.

Nice box..... and it is better you than me on that thing. Oh, and that work bench is almost ballroom neat.... at least compared to mine.

Some very nice builds so far....

Irvin: will be nice to see your build. I haven't seen a Lorraine chassis yet.

Sal: Thanks!

John: The chipping looks great. Very North Africa.

Gary: that little box was worth the mess. A mini master piece.

Hi all,

Figured I may as well show that I am in this build also...

Nothing spectacular but it is moving along. Am thinking of leaving the hatch on the front deck open to show off a bit more of the interior.

The little box on the copper roll is one of the radios. I think that the copper wire is about the only stuff I have that will be close to the right size to wire the radio stack. Should be interesting. Fortunately, I ended up picking up some really small drill bits a while back.

Gary,

Looking good.... looks even better with some paint on it.

As for the radios, I have the wiring drawings from Achtung Panzer No. 7 on the Panzer I and II. It is drawn for the Marder II but I am sure the wiring is the same. I can scan it for you if you want.
