Jeff T: Bare steel? I would recommend, well, steel. I use Testors and MM metallics for bare metal. The exceptions being aluminum and brass. Now, if it hasn't been machined, I recommend Tamiya metallic grey. However, the barrel would have been machined.
I should have known better, what a bunch of wise guys
I'm planning on doing the pencil thing or maybe powdered graphite on the cannon, so Matt, you're thinking XF-56 for the base color? The barrel, since its outside the fighting compartment will be the same color as the hull. Jeff T.
No. The steel would have been machined. You will want to paint it steel. Like I stated, I use Testors or MM steel for this.
Matt, I hate to be a pain, what you're saying is that the whole cannon, barrel and breech should be bare steel? John's photos and the Kubinka pics seem to support painted for the barrel. Of course it's hard to tell for sure but the" in the field" pics seem to point to painted also, at least on the outside of the crew compartment. Jeff T.

Trevor,if you look a ways back in the thread at the pics John posted, there is a very good photo of the interior. The floor does look like wood to me. Jeff T.

I would imagine that it was painted. I thought you had determined to build one with an unpainted barrel. It is very unlikely for any surface to be left bare. You should at least paint it oxide red.

I thought I had posted my starter pictures already but I don't see them.
Academy's Tiger 1 (early)...the one without the interior.
The lower hull went together pretty straight-forward. I was in a hurry to get started on the tracks. I went ahead and sprayed the wheels and hand-painted the rubber. I closed in the grills on the engine deck.
For tracks, I used a set from Tamiya's Mid Tiger 1. This Tiger is going to be an old veteran so I decided to go with the cleated tracks. They were already on another Tiger and had to be removed. You can actually see the donor kit in the background of one of the pictures. There were a good number of the links damaged and were replaced from extras I had in the spares. I actually had to use some extra early bar type links I had left over from a Tunisian Tiger I had built. These are placed on the bottom, out of sight.
I also have the turret roughly assembled. I have a Tamiya engine that I was going to use. Unfortunately, when I closed in the rear deck grills I didn't leave enough room for the engine so I left it out.
That's it for now.

Looking forward to the rest of your build.

The only barrels I have seen that aren't paint are oxide red. Could they have primed them, with the rest of the tank after applying the grey primer?

Here is where my Pz III is at in the build. I've applied a clear coat, decals, pin wash and detail painting. Now it's time to put on the winter white coat.
keep up the good work.

Kevin, very nice Dude, that's coming along well.
John, more great pics, and a great build too
I'm looking at the 6th photo down, the really blurry one, of course, with the young girl in the lower left hand corner. I think I'm seeing camo ?

Thank you for the photos, they will be of assistance. Just wondering would the tarp that covers the fighting compartment just be rolled up and stored on the top edge? Thanks again. One reason why I joined up. A great resource.

I
I would not think that field applied camo would be too much of a stretch. But, I do not have much experience with this particular vehicle.

I guess I'm just looking for something that isn't there. It just goes to show that the more this kind for discussion takes place about German Armor, the more muddy the waters become. It's the old "Yes, No, Maybe So, Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda" deal. Since there were only two made, you would think that you would be able to find at least one good pic showing some camo. So I guess it will be a one color build.
I still may do the red oxide barrel though

Robert nice Stug, really liking the look of it!
Jose nice start on the elefant!
Kevin, I like that panzer III ausf L, looking forward in the whitewashing!
I'm almost done with the panzer III ausf J. I do like the AK Interactive stuff. I think I washed off the streaking effect by thinning it out too soon. I guess I will do better next time. I dull coat it and then added MIG European earth and dark mud pigment and dirty it up. Hope the photo booth will make it look better.

Mike P: Go with it. I have always been told it should be the same color as the tank, but this may just be the standard.
Gary: I see you are up to your normal standard. I'm most impressed.

Hi guys
Some really nice builds in this Campaign.I'm thinking about joining, but I just want to check the rules!
I have a Panzer IV J in the stash, I have the Voyager Jumbo PE set for it along with Fruils. But to be quite honest I've just finished a Panther that took 5 months so I'd rather do something slightly quicker.
I have a Jagdtiger, which I'm confident won't qualify. But I also have a Jagdpanther. I've noticed a few Panthers in this Campaign... would the Jagdpanther qualify???
Thx
On the bench: Dragon flakvierling with armoured cab + AM Works PE
In the stash: Dragon Jagdpanther + AM Works PE
Dragon Panzer IV Ausf J + voyager jumbo PE
Tamiya B2 Bis - Flammenwerfer mod
ICM Henschel 33D1 + Dragon sFH18
Tamiya Tiger 1
