Thanks Alex, I must have missed that. Yeah at 1:35 the Panther's barrel won't fit on a horizontal plane...probably incline it and take advantage of the no-height limit??? Anyways other turrets I've seen pics of were some French beutes, short-barreled Pz IV, and even a Pz II. Quite a number of options to play with. Cheers, Tat

@ Tat
As Alex already mentioned. A gun emplacement with a turret on it is allowed. It is stretching it a bit to call it a vehicle but it is basically the same as an AT piece.

I did a Pantherturm around Christmas. The base turned out around 22*13

Nice Pantherturm you have made there. Nice compact scene.

To others that have a gunemplacement bunker in mind there are quite a few alternatives that are way smaller. Bunkers with Panzer I, II or French FT17 and Somua turrets. Even with 38T and Panzer 3 turrets. That would make for some interesting diorama's

Rob,
yes you have understood my idea to the T, I believe that I am just overthinking my plan. The van will allow enough light, without any other work being done to it.

Thanks for chiming in guys. Its good to have several options on the dio scene. I aim to have something angled or off-horizontal as it adds some dramatic effect to the scene, and yeah adds challenge and complexity on the the build as well...

Nice Pantherturm dio John -- I like the groundwork. Thanks for sharing, is it 1:35?

Cheers,

Tat

Someone just posted (yesterday I think) a few pictures of a Panzer I and 38(t) turret near their house;

@ Christopher
Yeah I'm pretty envious. I would love to have something like that close to home. Now mind you I live in an area where there are still a lot of Atlantik wall remains left. Even a Ringstand for an FT17 turret but sadly.. without the turret. As for choices.. Well a quick search online shows that if the Germans could get it off of a tank then it would show up on a bunker. Panzer I, II, III, IV, VK3001, Panther, 35T, 38T, FT17 in all it's forms, R35 in all it's forms, Somua, Italian turrets, T26 name it. Examples of these are easily googled.

But returning on the subject of the size dimensions. An enlarged tobruk for tank turrets fits on the base measuring 11cm by 6 cm in scale. The FT17 and R35 tankturret ringstands probably fit as well. Possibly you have to cut a bit off the latter to make it fit.
Plus there are several manufacturers that produce really nice bunkers. Verlinden comes to mind allthough it is a bit debatable how accurate his Bunkers are. Mister Verlinden had quite a big thumb out of which he sucked some impressive designs
And quite a newcomer on the market http://www.drakkar-models.com/ from France who make some really neat bunkers at quite decent prices as well.

Tat - an optional placement for your turret . . . to take advantage of the unlimited height.

a bit of playing the words or numbers in this case:
Whats the smallest Hummel anyone has heard of?

Paul - this is the smallest Hummel I could find in a quick search.

@ Charles
Saw you had enlisted so welcome to the Postcard Challenge.
I actually already had hoped that you would after I saw those shallow depth diorama's you made.

Nice pic of that Strabokran and the Tiger turrets.

And yes that is certainly a hummel although I doubt it will be what Paul is looking for

I think I now have the idea that I am going to build in 1/35th, full vehicle I think I can fit in, although I can't rely on wikipeadia's dimensions so we will have to see. Scratchbuilt road and wall ok?

> Nice pic of that Strabokran and the Tiger turrets.

I think I've decided that cranes are my favorite "weapon / vehicle" so far, and the design of the Fries is pure genius.

Here's a wonderfully relaxed Bilstein shot - you wouldn't know there's a war on; they're taking a break after completing phase 1. The dog seems oblivious to all that weight that's almost over its head.

> And yes that is certainly a hummel although I doubt it will be what Paul is looking for

And here I thought it was the perfect fit; he used numbers and I used words.

Thanks Charles. At that "pose", a 1/35 Tiger turret would stick out the 4x6 space. Though I think it may work if the scene depicts a disaster whereby some of the cables snapped, with the turret dangling on an angle. It just needs a turret and gun, and it saves a vehicle from being awkwardly cut up -- thus making it useful for another project, a berge or a ko'd tank. Hmmm, another good idea on the list of possibles...

Cheers,

Tat

This would work for a Braille 'Panther-turm';

The Germans buried knocked out or heavily damaged tanks in the streets of Berlin.

A better picture;

Or there's always this option, though I think the Panther is to wide to fit in our size constraints;

Yes I do realize it's a 'King Tiger' though it's some good inspiration.

Aloha all:

Some interesting project ideas coming up in this one.

Does anyone know of a decent figure riding a motorcycle in 1/35th? The sets I'm finding are at rest with one foot on a peg, one on the ground and no hands on the bars. I'm looking for someone with their hands on the bars at least. Thanks!!

The only ones I know of are the Tamiya figures. One is from the MP Harley Davidson kit, and the other is the German sidecar kit. Problem is the details are kinda soft. Maybe you can improve them by replacing the heads with ones from the Hornet range, Good luck...

Hi Zon,

I found this, I think the 'driver' is posed holding the handlebars, seems to be a good kit.

Hope this helps.

All the best,

Paul

Ola Guys

Good to see the ideas being tossed around. I like to see creative processes at work. And there are quite a lot of ideas that would work at a smaller scale.

@ Christopher
That are indeed some nice examples of makeshift AT bunkers and you could nicely combine some things which make it correct with the Challenge's rules.

@ Zon
As Paul G already showed you Zvezda/Revell have recently released driving motorcyclists. You might also check Masterbox who have several pretty neat driving motorcyclists in their range. Or you could combine the figure and the scratchbuilding aspect and make your own.

Hey guys,

Thought I would share my news of sourcing a van today, 1/35 turned up nothing useable so I turned to 1/32, that became a problem when i was looking for kits, but, I did find a numbe of diecast vans. So started ebaying and found one that had a damaged front end. Ideal for me and low price with no1 out bidding me as everyone else wants a WHOLE van lol going to be fun trying to get it to look right, think I'll 'borrow' a few of my sons cars to have a pratice with.... Lol

Alex,

Now that sounds like fun. I have just ordered all the bits I need for mine so I will be ready for July, well in advance.

@ Alex
That sounds great. The difference between 1:35 and 1:32 is not that great and I'm pretty sure it will look absolutely nice. I'm very curious how you are going to cut that front part of the diecast vehicle. Hope it will not take too much vehicles out of your sons vehiclepark.

@ Paul
Looking forward to the loot my friend.
I'm still thinking of what to do myself. My first plan was with a Stug III... But I'm not very sure if I want to sacrifice any of my perfect stugs I have here. Besides it probably would not fit. So my next plan is a KV2
Which I have laying around and is started with a bit of damage. Might have to do some cutting. But aside from that it is my plan to create the diorama with stuff I have laying around the house for years.

Ola Guys

I found a picture that shows how you can effectively integrate a full panzer III in the boundaries of the Postcard Challenge
