I have never actually proposed a campaign but I have entered a few and followed even more. Not always equally succesful in actually finishing but nontheless I always had loads of fun.

I want to launch a little idea I had to see if people like it and would like to join in.

Possibly when you see the title you might think "what are we supposed to do now?"

Well the idea is to build a military diorama. All periods, all scales. Simple enough. Except.... For a few rules

The diorama MUST have:
- a (part of a) vehicle (at least one third of a vehicle)
- at least 1 figure
- a human made structure of stone
- a Scratchbuilt item
and last but not least.

It MUST not exceed the following dimensions 10,5 cm x 15 cm which incidentally are exactly the dimensions of a standard postcard and it can't be smaller either. You have exactly the size of a postcard to built a scene on. There are no height restrictions.

The idea is to use that space as creatively as possible. And to spur the modeler to be creative with the rules. You decide what vehicle, You decide what figure(s), you have absolute freedom in what the human made stone object is and you decide what the scratchbuilt item will be.

Duration. 6 months. Starting 1st of Juli of this year

I hope people will like the idea. And hopefully in time we can make this into an official campaign.

Sounds good Robert, I actually had an idea for a 5in' by 5 in' campaign, but since you're going to run this I don't need to start a proposal!

I think it's a cool idea. I'll be in bootcamp until mid August but after that I'd probably be able to get in on it.

Fantatic idea, I saw a picture I wanted to do a couple of days ago and the size should be about right so I would be in for this one.

Ideas are good. absolutely. This is the main reason I did the mid 2013 date. If the campaign gets a pass everybody has the time to think up what they are going to do.

Just to clarify-
it doesn't have to be just part of a vehicle-it could be a whole 1/72 scale tank or a 1/35 scale motorbike?
Could the scratchbuilt item be the figure?

Good questions.
If the whole vehicle fits on the size of a postcard then that is perfectly ok regardless of the scale.

The scratchbuilt item can be the figure. That is exactly the creative approach to the rules I love to see for this campaign. Combining 2 of the rules is perfectly ok.

Are there any scale restrictions? I ask because this is an ideal campaign for micro armour 1/300th, or the new Zvesda 1/100th tanks, or even upgrading Flames of War type wargaming stuff. Just a thought. Look forward to your reply.

Ok so now set on my idea, the two terrorists, stone wall and the party piece is going to be a van, well half a van, back end cut and the open end at the edge of the dio, with a scratch built inside and a large 'bomb' made of barrels etc, just what you would think a horrific bio chemical weapon would look like, big challenge as if never scratch built before but really looking forward to it!

This sounds like something I might be able to finish

As you already found out. Any scale where you find armor in can be entered. Heck if you can find tanks small enough you can create your own tankbattle as long as it will fit on the postcard.

That's the spirit. Great idea. It should make for a very tense diorama. I like it that you decide to scratchbuilt the vans interior with the bomb. That is one of the goals for this challenge. To have people experiment with things. Gathering new experiences. The scratchbuilt item can be big, the scratchbuilt item can be small. That doesn't matter. As long as it is created by the modeler himself.

Would an anti-tank gun, field gun, or turret emplacement count as a vehicle?

If I parked a light tank next to a wall or well, would the wall or well count as both man-made and scratch built structures?

Can the vehicle already be started, if the plan is to cut it up?

Does it have to be real or can it be what-if?

You have some good questions. AT guns or Fieldguns count as a vehicle. I had not even thought of Gunemplacements but I will count those as a vehicle as well.
A wall or well could indeed function as both the man made structure and a scratchbuilt object.
If you plan on cutting up a vehicle then it can be a kit that already has been started. No problems there. If you have an old banger laying around you wouldn't mind putting the saw into then sure go ahead.

An excellent idea! Lots of thoughts tumbling around in my old noggin. I'm not sure to join yet-- a couple overlapping campaign commitments already.
I'll definitely watch though.
One question-- does the diorama base (a wood plaque for example) extend outside the 10.5 cm by 15.0 cm, or does the diorama base have to fit inside the postcard dimension also?

Robert, What about what-if subjects? I'm thinking of a WW2 era Allies version of an assault gun based on a M5 Stuart armed with a 57mm gun. If not, no problem. I've got a bunch of ideas swimming around.

One other question though. Does the entire subject have to be confined within the 10cm x 15cm area? I thinking about overhang of gun barrels. As with above, if not, it's not a big deal. I actually think it would be pushing the spirit of the size restrictions, but I figured I'd ask.
