Hi Lucas
I think it was smart to just ask for the cheapest ones. You don't want to get some big expensive brand name when you are just going to chop it up for a model. I play bass, and it costs me about $40 to get a decent set of strings. That's 10 each!! I imagine decent or good guitar strings would be about the same or more.
I know what you mean--the music store I went to had string sets that were near $60. No way was I going to pay that much for antennas! I got my set for a much more reasonable $7. I should have enough string for at least seven to ten models, I think.

That's great! I've been looking for a better alternative to the copper wire I use presently.
Thanks again!

Hi guys,
Lots of good stuff being shown so far.
I'm still working on my Tamiya M1025 converted to and open topped M998 with Calibre 35's kit, Blast's wheels and ProArt's Singars.
The chassis is done and painted except for some detail painting of the disk brakes and drivetrain.
I hope to be painting the body and interior over the Thanksgiving weekend. Pictures if I have the time.

Fantastic model Joe. It looks really awsome and very well done. Im doing the same sort of thing. Ive used a pro art Humvee interior set which I have loads of and then scratch built all the dumvee details. Did you make the rear cargo area panels? They are very hard to make and took me ages. I think i'll try and get mine done soon

Well, depending on what kind of paint you used, you could spend a little time removing it, then repainting it. I find Tamiya Acrylics come off pretty easily with rubbing alcohol. Just let it soak, then use a brush to clean it off. Well, hope it works out for you. The pictures looked promising.

Here’s one that’s a little unusual, a recycled Tamiya HUMVEE turned into a DUMVEE. She started out with a little help from my good friend Gino “Heavy Arty” who sent me a few resin pieces such as tires and odds-n-ends. I also borrowed a DUMVEE instruction sheet to reference some scratchbuilding and where the parts go. The hardest parts made were the Smoke Grenade launcher and tubes. Everything made was from using Evergreen Plastic card and rods. Many of the references came from doing a Goggle search, so what I’m planning on is combining a few photos to make-up one vehicle. Once the paint dries I’ll be adding a oil wash, dry brushing and a final airbrush dusting. If time permits I’d like to add in Dragon’s sniper team figures. Comments and suggestion welcomed.
Joe
Joe, your Dumvee is looking great. I like the scratch built parts. If you need any spare parts to finish this thing, drop me a line. I have a ton of spare parts if you need em.

Theyre coming along slowly but surely. I am taking a break from the M998 and working on the M1044 now. On the 1044, I am done with all the scratch building and photo etching. I mixed up the paint a few nights ago, and have begun painting. So far, all I have left to paint is the roof, hood, hatch, CIP panels, and push bar. I have to airbrush those, and its been cold and rainy here all week, so when I get some dryer weather, I will finish that off. The interior is painted, decalled, and weathered, and so is the main body. Once I get the airbrushing done, I can begin the final assembly and external weathering process. I am also waiting on a set of MIG wheels to show up. They should be here early next week. Once I get the paint done I will weather both the 1044 and the 998 at the same time to make things easier. Then I just have the M998 from ODS to do. I should be able to finish all of them with no problem by the end of the campaign.

Hi Garreth,
If your going to build the dumvee from scratch, check out Joe's Dumvee above. from what I have seen in pictures, hes pretty much hit the nail on the head. Some things would be very difficult to scratch build though. For example the high back seats. You should be able to scrounge up the rest of the parts fairly easy. You can use the doors out of the Tamiya M1046 kit, cut the back off the roof, and add the rear roll bar (I believe its called the B pillar). The rest can be built basically out of styrene. such as the rear bumper, bed rails, smoke dischargers, front and rear machine gun mounts, Sat antennae. If you need it, I have a roof, set of front doors, and an extra Calibre 35 B pillar. Just drop me a line. Also, AFV Rob our fearless campaign leader is scratch building a DUMVEE. He would be a good referance on whats needed. Almost forgot, your going to need SINCGARS radios, and a winch for the front. Pro Art Makes a kit to convert the Tamiya Humvee if this is all too much to do. I think its about $50 US. Well, hope that helps.

Joe,
I like it! It looks good, and even better, you built most of it from scratch! Couple of questions though.
1) I noticed you used blue painters tape for the straps. I also use masking tape to make straps, and I was curious if you used the painters tape for any particular reason.
2) Were you going to add the M240 and mount to the back?
Again, nice build!

Thanks guys
Gary the painters tape is what I have on hand, I use it through out my model building because painters tape is low tack. Hint, if you even want a lower tack tape stick the tape on your arm or stomach. The more you do it the less stickier it is. Works well for windows and camouflages.
As for the rear 60 weapon...well during the clean up I broke it
I'd like to add it on but happen not have a modern one on hand. I did make the mount for it. I took it off and left on the post base plate in case I get one soon. I also need to add in the ammo boxes in the rocker panel, and glue on antennas.
Cool,
Joe

Hi guys
Here are my entry into the Humvee campaign. It is a small diorama with a TOW Hummer and some US forces next to it. I have build it as a scene from Operation Just Cause in Panama, even though I am not entirely sure the TOW version of the Hummer was used in that operation.
It is finished in the three colour US camo of green, brown, and black. The colours ended up a little close to each other so the pattern is not as visible as I would have liked. Anyway, now I know that for next time
It was fun to build even though I had to paint it without my airbrush as I have recently moved to Riga, Latvia and has not gotten all my hobby stuff with me yet.
Comments are welcome!

I have a quick question for you guys. This may not be the place to ask but I am completing a Humvee M1025 for this campaign (1st ever) and I am unsure of how / where to submit the photos of the finished build. So do I send them to the Host's e'mail or post them here. Any help, I would be greatful for!!! Thanks again
