Well, here are some pictures of Hummer #3. This one is the M1044. The M1044 is the 1025 with better armored doors and winch. I didnt make any figures for this one as it is going to be incorporated into a larger diorama with an M923 gun truck doing convoy duty eventually. I have made some modifications such as the side armor, axtra door armor, gun shield, extra rear antenna, and full size rear bumper all of which were scratch built. Also, the tow cable is from scratch, and so are the telephone chords for the SINCGARS radios. The wheels are from MIG, and the PE set is from Eduard. Enjoy guys. I should have pictures of the gun truck tomorrow or thursday. I just have to resize the pictures.
Almost forgot, if you look closely at the passenger side roof, and the drivers side hood, I added some bird dookie LOL After making the passenegr side look shot up, I thought I would make it look like even the Iraqi birds were shooting at this one LOL What gave me the idea was when I was washing my car on my vacation last week, I no sooner put the towel down and was gifted by some pidgeons flying over LOL

Scared me for a second Gary. I looked at the first picture and wondered what kind of weapon you put on the top of it. My eyes couldnt tell right away it was just the perfect photo angle of an AT weapon sitting behind the .50 cal. Looked like something huge at first glance.
But now that I have realized my blindness, amazing build, and love the dropping idea lol

Thanks for the compliments guys!
Rob,
Well, since you have so graciously given us a couple of extra weeks to finish up, I got bold the other night and decided to do a "speed build" of "Amazing Grace". As of tonight, Im half way done. LOL I should have it finished no later then Saturday. Its really getting bad when I open up a Tamiya Hummer box, throw the directions in the trash, cut all the parts off the sprues, clean them up and start painting in one night! I think I need to go to a meeting or something LOL After this, I dotn want to see another Hummer for a while LOL
Kevin,
I see the shadow youre talking about. Im not the best photographer in the world LOL That would however be something interesting for the T2K campaign. how about a turret mounted magazine fed AT4 ? LOL Aw, hell why not a flame thrower on the turret LOL
Well, hope you guys are all getting those hummers done. I cant spend much time here tonight. My goal is to do this last hummer in 4-5 days. Catch yas later!
Gary

Well, here are some in progress pictures of my speeed build "Amazing Grace". I have about 10 hours into this one in the past three nights. This one is an M998 ODS era with some history behind it. For those of you who dont know much about ODS back in 1991, the Iraqi's invaded the city of Al Khafji inside Saudi Arabia. As the invasion was taking place, there were two squads of recon marines who were training inside the city. The city had been abandoned previously for fear of scud attacks as it is located near the Saudi Kuwait border. When the Marines called in to report the invasion, their Seargent "Dan Boczkowski" had returned to the rear for supplies. They were ordered to retreat and abandon the city. However, showing uncommon bravery (even for Marines), they chose to stay and report the Iraqi troop movements. They split into two teams and took up positions on the two highest roof tops they could find. From there, they deployed claymores near the roof entrances and called in artillery and air strikes on the Iraqi positions. One such air strike was so close, two of them were lightly wounded. At one point, the Iraqi's took up positions inside the building the one team was hiding on top of. At another point, the second team had been spotted by the commander of a T62 who began to fire at them on the roof top. Unfortunately for him, they had already called in arty on his position, and before the other iraqi's realized what the t62 was shooting at, they were all dead. Talk about timing. Well, as things started to heat up, the Marines who were completely outnumbered decided it was time to get the hell out of there. However, pickup was near impossible as it was still to hot for a helo to pick them up, and all other units were tied up. Frantic, Dan Boczkowski asked for a vehicle to go get his guys out. The commanding officer gave him his driver, and humvee.......an M998 affectionately named "Amazing Grace". Sgt Boczkowski then rounded up supplies, another Marine armed with an M60, and a Saudi interpreter and headed for Khafji. I wont tell too much more of this story as it is a long one, but the Marines who were trapped were all rescued despite some interesting odds. So, this was there rescue vehicle. I was unable to find too many pictures of this humvee. The story was on the history channel which actually showed "Amazing Grace". After seeing this story, I knew I had to build this humvee and quickly started jotting down notes on its appearance for future referance.
Tonight, it gets the roof rails installed, radios installed, final assembly, a wash, some dry brushing, windshield wiper masks, and antenna. Tomorrow will be some pastel weathering, and that should about do it.
Comments are always welcome

Looking good guys!
I managed to get some work done the past few days on my M1114. I finished and installed the BFT/ASIIP's rack. I also finished the fuel can rack and tire mount on the back. All I have to do now is wire up the smoke poppers and install the radio hand mikes some gear inside and I can close it up. Then its weathering time.

Gary--Amazing Grace is shaping up nicely. I'm looking forward to the finished product.
Ciro--that is an amazing display of the ASK doors! Kudos for building the complex Eduard window mechanism on all four doors. Once weathered your Humvee is going to be quite the looker!
Both you guys put my simple M1025 to shame.

Crap...Looks like Pete is going to beat me. I won't be able to finish on time as I go back to school on Monday and I'm busy getting ready to go back so I try to show an update of my figures, but I never was able to get the airbrush out to paint my model. Sorry Rob that I won't be able to finish your campaign.

Thanks Lucas! Although, I thought your 1025 looked great. My 998 is practically out of the box as well. The 998 conversion is fairly simple. To be honest, Im having fun with this one. The last three were getting annoying with so many details.

Hi guys....
it was difficult build all the doors...and I think that with another same model it will be better than this...the important thinghs is that this model comes out better than my previous humvee(I hope)...I need to do weathering and other details...I'm curious to see the Petes' humvee finished...proboably m1114 will be my next project(if only Mig send to Italy other conversion....)...Gary,your humvee is good in my opinion and I'm not agree with you about the "simple" model...often simple thinghs are difficult to do...yours come out good for me...I want to see the weathering(with perfect circles ).....hope to finish my model for the campaign...

Wow Gary, Am General got some competition the rate you are churning these out! But you can never have enough Humvees, I intend to hopefully focus most of the model building on constructing as many Humvee varients as possible, that my life plan for modelling anyway-as you can imagine, I love em!!!!
Amazing Grace is looking very good, and you have supplied this campaign with some fantastic models, thanks very much for all your input Gary, and to everyone else for that matter. We will ahve to have another of these in a couple of years time, who knows what they will of come up with then-perhaps transformers :-) :-)
Ciro-Your Humvee looks fantastic, I love the ASK kit you have added and those Eduard windows look simply fantastic, ive got to get me some of them.
We've still got a week guys, so the race is on! Im not sure if I will get my Dumvee done or not, construction is almost there, but the painting is going to take a while, and not to mention all the stuff I still gota do with the radios.Unfortunately me and my girlfriend of 2 years split so modelling has not really been on my mind at the moment, ive just got to keep ym head down this week and try get it done.
Keep up the good work guys, and just make sure you have fun. Now ive got to run and get on with some more of the Humvee..............

Hi guys....
I want to see the weathering(with perfect circles ).
Hi all Safe
Ciro
LMAO :-) Ciro, if these circles arent perfect, you better go yell at Tamiya! LOL Hell, I will yell at Tamiya since the rims and tires are seperate!! :-)
Im using the originals on this one. These Humvees have gotten a bit expensive, and Im building these last two on a budget of sorts. The originals were historically accurate for the era anyway. So far, the radios are in, the interior is done, driver is almost complete, Ive added some straps of sorts and the rear antenna, the chasis is weathered, the body is washed and drybrushed, and all the accessories are painted and or folded. I wanted to be done by tonight, but being Saturday, my wife had a list of things for me to do So, I should be able to finish tomorrow no problem. I have to paint the camo on the driver, write amazing grace on the doors, attach a couple of bags, and finish it off with some pastels. Id say 3 more hours tops. Well, I'll have completed pictures on Grace by Monday. So far, I have 13 hours into it.

Ciro, I usually paint my Mk19's flat black and dry brush them with a bit of steel to show wear on raised surfaces and scratches. Dont forget to drill out the barrel. Same goes for the M2.

Sorry to hear about the girlfriend Rob. If it makes you feel any better, Being single is a good thing sometimes. You have to test drive a lot of cars before you buy one. Know what I mean??? A good comedian once said "You know what "single" stands for??? Stay Intoxicated Nightly, Get Laid Everyday!!!!" :-) Well, hope I cheered you up a bit. Keep building that Humvee, it will keep your mind busy. Take care, talk to you soon!

Hi guys
I often use the same technique myself, another way you might like to try is to use some ground down graphite from a pencil as the metallic highlight, i usually use my finger to rub it over the detail.
Finished my entry now, just posting some pics.
Inspiring seeing these other humvees guys, excellent work chaps!

I use Model Master Gunmetal mixed with a little Tamiya metal for a metallic effect. I then drybrush every so lightly with a silver color. Remember that any scratches in 1:1 scale are going to be REALLY small in 1:35 scale.

Dus,I like your weathering on the humvee...and the subject too.Good work!!!!I'm still searching a good weathering for my humvees...I've some ideas...but they need time, more or less lightenings work and they give a right color to humvee, but in my opinion it's difficult to do shade of sand and dust on surfaces that are just light sand and white in some place(for sun effect).I think it's more easy on dark surface, like 3tone camo...if this camo is dusted you can see the dust/dry mud/sand on it...more or less like the 1025 Humvee of Rob....I hope to finish my humvee for the end of campaign

Ciao Ciro
I used a very thin oil paint wash of Titanium white and yellow ochre mixed together to get the dust/sand effect in the creases and panel joints, this works better over a gloss varnish.
I used the Mig powders on a paintbrush and tapped over the vehicle in different places whilst the wash was still wet. This is quite a random finish so you might not want to try putting them on until after the wash is dry, they are easier to remove if they go in the wrong place when dry.
Hope that helps,
Ciao

Well, 16 hours into the speed build (if you can call it that! :-) ), and Amazing Grace is done. I will be using this one in a diorama like the others eventually, so that is why certain details are the way they are (ie, the rear hatch is down). Hope you like em! Comments are always welcome

Hi Gary....
I want to be honest...not bad as model and work...but I prefer your 1044...I think that your last model has a very heavy weathering..maybe I'm wrong and the subject is really very dirty but I repeat....I prefer your 1044...the details and weathering on that are more close to my point of view about modelling...Nice model however but if I must choose I'll get 1044....
Warmest regards my friend

Hey, thanks CIro! Honestly, I like the 1044 better myself. There is much more detail in that one, but then again, it would be a more detailed subject in real life. This 998 is from 1991 and is a fairly box stock Humvee. They didnt have gun shields, or aggresive tires, most of them didnt even have SINCGARS radios. Basically, if you take a 1025 and build it out of the box, it is fairly accurate for Desert Storm era. That was the fun of this one. It wasnt too complicated to build, and honestly not a single part frustrated me. This was weathered heavily on purpose. By the time this998 got to Khafji, it had been driven a good distance through the desert, which would have left sand and dust everywhere. Also, I built this one based on the historical accuracy of the actual vehicle, rather then the 1044 which I just basically built the way I wanted it. The diorama it will eventually be used in will depict the exfiltration of the trapped Marines in Khafji. It will depict one of the entrances at khafji with the Marines running for the Humvee and a blown up BMP in the background. I would have liked to have done the whole diorama for the campaign, but as time is running short, I wont be able to finish that part for a couple of months. Thanks for the input!
Gary
One last thing....its interesting to compare this bone stock 998 to say one of our more modern 1114's or 1152's and notice just how much the HUmvee has changed in a little over a decade.
