Yet another ground target...A kit bashed older kit outfitted as I remember seeing an old Sherman relic in Israel when I was there in the early 70's.

Hi Gary, nice one, next ground target to add to the collection! I see it's also retrofitted with 76mm cannon? Sweet

Hi Greg,
Thank you! You are very observant. The Sherman I saw many years ago in Israel was an older model which had been retrofitted with a larger gun. I think for a time beginning in 1948 the Israelis had several versions of Shermans with a large varity of guns from several different countries and manufacturers.
Your comments are appreciated as always,
Gary

Here are my finished 1956 ground targets built for this campaign. Egyptian SU-100 and IS-3 plus an IDF Sherman. Sorry Pedro, never got to that British build we talked about but hopefully these make up for it.

Nicely done Gary. Those Israeli Shermans, any hull, turret or gun combo seems to be possible. To bad you cannot do up a Brit vehicle and have a grand slam!

Hi Doug,
Yeah, I'm already on to another couple of projects and between working, some contests I'm trying to get ready for and some traveling we have planned this fall and winter, I simply won't have time presently for the wonderful British builds I have planned for the future!
Thank you for your comments...much appreciated!

Hello friends!
It has been a long absence but I have followed the thread with great interest while doing just about everything except building plastic models. Anyway, comes autumn comes modelling time!
I am struggling to finish the T-6 and I really really really hope that I will be able to finish the Avenger as well. After all, it is a Hasegawa kit with a very simple paint scheme! I will not be able to finish (or start for that matter) the HUP. On to the modelling:
I will NEVER do this again. I have ordered som Eduard masks for the Avenger!
Suddenly starting to look like an airplane! The canopy have been painted interior green after masking.
Painting the yellow areas using Gunze yellow mixed with brown to darken it a bit. It still came out very light comparing with the Avenger decals but who knows what yellow paint the Israelis used anyway?
Camouflage painted using Xtracrylix. Brown is RAL 8000 while the blue/green is RAF EDSG with a drop or two of green and some white. I don't know how correct it is but "me likey"!
I hope to be back soon with more photos, it's decal time tonight!
Regards
Magnus

Things are moving forward!
Those decals are Academy from the kit. I have always heard that Academy decals were made to be some kind of punishment for some long forgotten wrongdoing for us modellers but these behaved very well using som carefully applied Set and Sol!
Avenger started, interior painted, tomorrow night is photo-etch night!

Does anyone know if decals exist for the Centurion? I can probably fake the big "H" on the turret with white decal stripes if necessary.

WIP shots of my Centurion. Both Mk 3's and Mk 5's were used. This is the old Tamiya kit with Eduard PE details, Accurate Armour skirts, Friul tracks, Barrel Depot barrel. This is probably 90% built, still have a lot of PE left to attach. The grey on top of the turret is Mr. Surfacer.

Slow going but I've learned a lot about working with PE, which I didn't decide to use until AFTER I had nearly completed the kit. The old Tamiya model assembled quick and easy, but left a lot to be desired!

Hi again.
People were asking for aircraft, so here's a wingman to Magnus' Harvard.
http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i300/rrlillen/Red38-1.jpg
If you scrutinize the panel lines, you'll see that my try with felt tip preshading wasn't exactly what you wich for. The darker shades are too straight and evev, but what the h-ll - I'm thinking of a newly painted a-c anyway. Dirty wheel bays and cockpit, and the rest fresh off the paint shop.
http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i300/rrlillen/Red38-2.jpg
I love cockpits. The left side of the instrument panel was a bit overdone, so I'll show you the right instead.
I stole a prop from another Mustang, to get the feeling of a yellow spinner, but I will definately go for red. It gives more colour to the aircraft, and since I-ve seen pics of the same a-c with both red and yellow spinners, I'll give myself freedom here. Flaps, prop, canopy, decals and a slight weathering - and she's off.

Nice looking P-51 Tony! I like the colours, my T-6 turned more green than blue after a weathering-session using the airbrush... What paint did you use?
If you want so they are easily fixed using heavily thinned base colour tinted with black or dark grey in the airbrush. This will give them a softer and more irregular look and also blend them in with the rest of the paintwork. Or leave them as they are if you (like me) is running out of time
Regards
Magnus...
...who will now go upstairs, turn on some Miles Davis from the 50s and spend the rest of the night masking an Avenger turret. There is no chance that it is going to get finished before deadline but no one can accuse me for not trying

Got the Egyptian M4A4-A2 tracked. Was going to use Brit Chevron but I put the sandshields on before trying to track!!! Used 3 bar instead, dusted it up and highlighted the track contact points. For how I did it you can scroll back through the previous posts and check out all the other far nicer models in this campaign. So here she is!!

Hi Magnus. You will probably not like it, but it's Humbrols small cans. I haven't graduated from airbrush school yet :-) :-)
Frankly i just picked a can that looked close enough to some picture I had seen, and it got the right shade to me at least. There are a lot of different shades on differnet pictures so who knows whats right or wrong?
We'll see about my weathering. Like you (and a lot of others, I assume) I lack time right now. I think I go for a "internally worn, but freshly painted" aircraft. That would be close to historically correct, wouldn't it!

Hi all!
I have started my Avenger. It's modern Hasegawa so there was all the chance in the world for a quick build. What I hadn't thought about is the amount of masking for the canopy and turret. It's absolutely immense!
I am "cheating" in several different ways this time. To start with, I have bought some pre-painted Eduard photo etch.
It REALLY looks nice but I feel a bit uneasy about using it.
The turret would have been a nightmare to mask the usual way, with Eduard pre-cut masks it was a lot easier even if it still was a bit fiddly. Highly recommended!
Finally, the state of affairs as it is right now:
I will squeeze the turret in place tomorrow night and continue with attaching and masking the canopy. There is still a slim chance...
Regards
Magnus

Then you would love these: there is no painting involved, at least not on the instrument panel. It comes pre-painted so it is just glue-and-smile!

Is that what you meant by "I have bought some pre-painted Eduard photo etch"?
I have never paid much attention to aftermarket accessories so I wasn't aware they had things like this, I mean prepainted and all?? Do they make finished accessories for Armor?
Thanks, Gary :-)

Hello again.
I finally reached the finish line with my #38 Mustang. The first in the squadron!
Unfortunately I had a little mishap with the decals. These were thinner and more brittle than I could imagine so I cracked an 8 beyond recognition, and not a spare in sight.... Now she's #39, and quite happy with that, I hope.
It might have got a bit much weathering on the landing gear, but since these planes probably were painted in the field, i let it be like that. Just a slight overall weathering on the wings.
Here too you can see trace of a decal resistance. The fuselage stripes were painted on different places on differend a-c, so first I put them too far forward which also resulted in a switch right/left. In the recovery the stirpes cracked on several places, but at least I managed to get them on straight, and hide the most. By the way - the wing wheatering is made with brush and the very dilluted top contents of a nearly dried out flat black humbrol.
That's all for me for this time. I'm quite happy with the Mustang, but since my pace seems to be a plane a year, I'm off to something different now. Perhaps even building a decent photo base :-)
