My stuff so far. (Usually that's when it slows down considerably. It takes time to set up the airbrush.)

The Hotchkiss was finished with the base-coat, but I realized the surface was too rough, so back to surfacer.

2007 07 10 016

The UE looks really patchy with the flash, but I chose to show that photo, because at least I can see what I worked on for hours. The weathering can't really be seen with the naked eye.

I chose these two so I can practice weathering panzergrau. Should it be darker? How can I make the surface more interesting? So far I used grey, blue and white oils -but it's still monotone. Those Cyberhobby illustrations are really inspiring.

Hi Andras

Looks good from what I can see in the pictures. Maybe a thin wash or a filter would help tie everything back together and make it look less patchy?

They are looking good so far Andras, and I agree with Jesper, maybe a black wash will both darken it a little and unify everything together.

Some more progress again. Those bolt-and-nut thingies came out a little too big when comparing to my references, but that hexagonal styrene rod was the smallest kind I could find. Btw, making the nuts was probably the most annoying chore so far with this project. First, cutting flat discs of even thickness from the rod was hard. I tried making a jig to ease the job, but it didn't help so I returned to cutting manually. Still, quite a few had to be discarded. Secondly, drilling holes in the center of the discs was tricky, leading to more unsuccesful parts being discarded. Well, fortunately I struggled through that maybe two years ago and I didn't lose any parts now when I glued them on.
The mounting hardware for the storage boxes was again made from scrap PE bent to shape and secured with superglue.

Looks very good, Eetu

I am impressed by your patience and skills with the small bolts. You must have really small fingers

Looking forward to see more.

Eetu,

When that baby is finished it will look awesome! You will see that it was worth your efforts...

I sometimes think I should quit modelling, when I see stuff like that. I feel like a phony

The reason I showed this photo, because these patches simply can't be seen unless you use a flash -I was surprised myself. (I guess the TiO reflects the flash's light.)
I want to make the surface "interesting", Maybe other oils, some lighter grey color overspray? Some dust on top? I really would like to make these stand out.
Anyway, it'll be good way to learn.

Ok, I've made what can be construed as progress on my dio, though I dont really see that much progress presently. here is what I've gotten done.

I got the iniital airbrushing of my T-34 out of the way, and hopefully a wash later tonight:

My figures are starting to come together, I've primed them and am in initial phases of painting.

and last, but certainly not least, my base is coming along really nicely!

Im stalling on the trees though. I just cant seem to get the realism I want! Its really frustrating!!

Steve, great diorama you are constructing so far. The figures and the T-34 look great as well - I am looking forward to see your progress on this one.

Thanks for the update

Its shaping up nicely Eetu, the work with those bolts looks a right royal pain of a job, but you cracked it!

For me Andras, I tend to give a lighter grey overspray towards the centre of each panel just to stop it looking too flat and then later use the dust to round things off, basically use an old kit if you can and just try different things til you find something your happy with.

Greetings everyone,

I still have two more projects to complete before this month ends (for Best of the British and for Of Wheels and Tracks) but a bad modeler friend of mine was over here today and he suggested we pick up a kit and go at it. He has brought a Trumpeter Ti-67 along and asked me to pick a Trumpeter kit, so this was the lucky pick.

I expected it to be a straightforward and easy build... Guess I was wrong. The kit is nice but has a flash problem, it takes some time to clean up all the flashes that is not visible at first glance, but can create major issues where parts fit together. Those who want to build this one... beware!

Here's the kit:

Before you start, the instructions call out for a drilling work for 25-30 holes. After some tedious work this was done. Here's my bench during the drilling:

After this, I started constructing the body. First you have to put two side parts onto the main body piece provided. However, the little evil flashes are there hiding behind the side pieces, so do not be fooled, clean them properly and then glue them left and right. Otherwise, you will be disappointed to find out that the parts somehow do not match.

After the side parts and the back piece is attached, we have the bathtub looking body ready:

Right. Now it is time to install the first pieces of what I guess to be the suspension and the arms for the track rollers:

While this step was pretty straightforward, there is again some flash on the pieces that you should clean up. I recommend examining each piece carefully and dry fitting. It is interesting to find these flashes in such a detailed model, but you get what you pay for (Reminder, I was at joy previously for the very low price of this beast).

Now that we are done with that, it is time to cover up the body by attaching the top pieces. They fit really easily, but not properly. To my surprise, both of the two top pieces did not completely align with the right side of the body. I do not know if this is my fault or the kit's fault, since I am not a top-notch modeler the possibility is %50-%50. If it is my fault, it is because I somehow did not install the right side piece properly to the body. If it is the kit's fault, then the pieces do not align because the dimensions of the top body pieces and the main body do not match.

Looks like I need a small operation to cover these up:

At this point, it was late in the afternoon and we decided to leave the house, so I put aside to dry. If I feel like it, I might continue tomorrow.

Good campaign to you all!

Great choice Emre and great work so far too, your proving the point, check twice, glue once perfectly with the areas that have needed attention.
Keep up the good work.

By the way, I discovered the problem with the gaps. The right side part which fits onto the main body is a little too tight. Since I really pressed it and glued it so that it wouldn't jump out, it bent the corners of the main part as it is trying with all its might to break loose. That's why I have gaps both on the front and back, while on the middle everything is in perfect fit. It is my greatest hope that the glue will keep holding forever and at some point the model would not self-destruct as the right side piece comes loose

I think this problem might be eliminated with a little surgery around the edges of the pieces before installation, just make sure they fit OK, not tight like mine. I really forced them into place...

@Emre, looks good so far. I hope the glue holds the tank together. My KV-2 was a dream to build and fitted together very well. Maybe the moulds are getting worn down for Trumpeter so flash is starting to appear.

I have now finished my build for this campaign. The BT-42 in Finnish markings.

The kit went together well with only a few problem at the end of the hull and with some of the wheels.
I went for a semi worn vehicle with some light dirt and a heavy layer of dirt/dust on the lower part of the hull.

Hope you like it - it was great to participate

Jesper, your SPG looks very nice with its eye catching camo. One piece of advice for improvement might be adding some texture to the mud at the bottom around the wheels, the color for the mud is nice but the feel is somehow missing.

Correction on my part: I think I need larger pictures, I think there's texture but the picture is small I can't properly see it. Well, it is Monday morning and I am still groggy, so sorry for the remark.

Really? I've esentially got the same kit, except mines is the Trumpeter, standard KV big turret -not the captured one- and my pieces fit together rather well, with the minimal of fuss.

Well Steve, actually I don't understand it either, as I also have the KV-I with common sprues with this and it doesn't have this flash problem. Might be my stroke of unluckiness...

I get the feeling Jesper is right on this one, the moulds are getting worn out and flash is starting to appear along with imperfections here and there..
