1⁄35Ardennes Advance - A lesson in detail
Part I - Painting & Weathering Techniques
I paint separate sections at a time. Treating each section as a separate canvas.
The nice thing about armour is almost anything goes with weathering. So many
ways to go about it.
I base coat (airbrush) the plastic with heavy Tamiya Yellow (with lots of white
and sand to tone down). I whipped down to the local heavy excavation equipment
lot and studied the big cats and back hoes. Why do they weather this way? Same
way as armour because they are subjected to the same abuse except of course anti
tank shells.
I sprayed dark grey, almost black here and there near corners and crannies.
Don't get to picky here , have fun and keep the brush moving along with your
mood. Then take an old tooth brush and start lightly dabbling on (Daler-Rowney
Art masking fluid). When dry scrub or paint on some Modern Options (local art
store) instant iron metallic surfacer. try and remember that you are going to
apply a lot of layers during this process so be patient because the end result
is very rewarding. Try and keep the Instant iron in the low chassis areas
because of its rough texture it will also simulate dried mud, perforation and
peeled paint that's been repainted.
