Ardennes Advance - A lesson in detail

After two coats of the Iron let it dry. A heat lamp will allow you to apply the instant rust (same manufacture) after a couple of hours. Try a blow dryer or heat lamp on it (carefully) and if you don't like the look then paint some more of the rust solution on. Stand the model up so the surface is horizontal and try "pooling it on. You get different effect this way. Once your happy and its dry then apply the liquid mask in random fashion over this with more towards the bottom. Resist doing to much of this, less is better.

Next, take some rust colour paint and spray over the edges of the overlapping liquid mask. I prefer a mixture of grey with some red mixed in to achieve a "mauve" shade of colour here. Feel free to use your imagination and don't get bogged down with the tone. If you like the colour then label it. Once again apply liquid mask randomly. At this point you want to overspray the section with your base coat. Try and tone it down with a little white. I do this with all colours.

When dry take a rubber mask remover (looks like a pencil eraser) and start removing all the mask. Another method I use is the following: Since I have a 2HP compressor I can crank up the pressure and turn my airbrush into a mini power washer. I use Isopropanol and start blasting away until it's loose. I can also use this method for paint fade and wear. If you get in to close and cut to the plastic then just weather over it or treat it like the real world and touch it up.

This thread is 4 years old, so I think that there is little hope of seeing more of it. I too first came to Armorama with this link when it was brand new. Stupidly I never really joined Armorama until recently.

Funny, that the diorama itself is not shown?

Exactly. The pictures were never sent in. I'm not sure if they are available anywhere in the internet. I put in quite some time once trying to find them but to no avail.

I love the rust effect on the tail pipes. I have tried this effect with white putty mixed with acetone with varied results. Very realistic effect .
