here is a new latch mechanism. The D ring is now .035mm the original was.030mm so Jeff you can see the difference. Compare the close up of Matte Blacks latch to this to see the added detail. The scapula like piece in behind links to the rod that opens the lower lock. The D ring assembly sits on a cast circular base which the door handle is welded to. The brace off to the right is bolted to the assembly and to the door.

With this kind of detail do you think you could cast it? I know your rifle casts are smaller and more delicate but they don't have the radiating spokes at various depth. If this could be cast then the rest of the doorS are not such a big problem.

If the latches are realle 3d it might be a slight problem. (But in my opinion nothing a littl "flash" on the part won't fix. It's all a matter of locating the casting block and adding runners (and sometimes sheets) to the part to make them cast easier.

Well since - as an America you know - I'm not familiar with your Canadian money its kinda hard to tell the difference. Just kidding! That looks much thicker and better done. Are you replacing it on the ones you've already made or adding it to the rear doors? Also, where are the bolts coming from? They look like resin.

Cheers. FYI, since its Thanksgiving and with yet another term paper due next week, I'll probably be off the grid until the weekend)

I thought about the scale reference as well. The English penny is huge compared to the Canadian, next time I'll use my mm rule. I will replace the older D rings with the newer for all doors. Actually since this door mechanism is much more detailed I'll rebuild the door again and incorporate the development, there is no use going backwards. I may try to cast the mechanism in resin so The bolts are resin from Calibre 45.

When I saw Ti's amazing Canadian LAV I emailed him to ask what he was using. I found a supply of them at Hannants in England. Have a good Thanksgiving Jeff.

From Switzerland to Mexico, I guess your skiing days are over! I was really inspired by your FMTV Mothership build a while back, now that was scratch building! I look forward to your new effort from Mexico.
Thanks for commenting, it helps to fine tune the project.

Hi all
I wanted to get this update in before Christmas, this is not the final version. Now that I have these photos taken I can see things that aren't just right and I know there are mistakes. The Mig turret ring is not cemented (gap) in place to make working on it easier, the joystick hasn't been painted nor wired, that'll happen when I install. The clip that holds the M4 barrel kept getting smashed so I took it off until final assembly as well and the handle is cut off at the bottom so I can install the 50mm ammo can that Matte Black's pictures showed holding the smoke grenades. The glass blocks are in the works and will take some time to resolve. Constructive criticism is always welcome.

I had to remove the images because I couldn't post the pictures directly from Photo Bucket for some reason. Here is the link to the page however until I can fix this.

Make me one, make me one!!!!!!!!!!!

Boggie,
Did you happen to make any line drawings of this turret. Looking at it makes me want to do another Hummer.

If I didnt know it was 1/35 scale, I would think it was the real thing.

Very impressive Bill !! (I know, I know - it's not a very constructive comment). I have no real uparmored M1114 in my backyard to compare, but this turret really looks the part...

Keep on the impressive work !

Baggie,

I agree with Pete. HOLY CRA..... When I saw the first photo of the turret, I was thinking to myself "How did he manage to find a turret "off" of a humvee to photograph???" Man, youve got some serious skills. I swear, I thought it was real. Keep up the great work

Gary

PS - Doors look good too!

Crap Bill! I'm not sure what's more useful, the line drawings of pictures of the model. Excellent job. Kinda makes me wanna scratch one of those Rhino/Warlock anti-IED devices tonight just to see if I can.

Jeff
I painted the door for you because you mentioned that you'd only be able to see the details that way, I think you were right though about the weight of the D ring, it needs to be heavier. Between Joe (Mother) you and I building the Rhino we should be able to sort it out, keep measurements though, I look forward to your progress. Thanks for the kind words as well.
Pete,ya it's about time you built another HMMWV, you're almost done the Stryker (I'm almost ready to start mine now). It's looking great bu the way.
I gotta say that it great to be part of this forum, it really inspires me to get on with things.
Cheers all

It sounds like a campaign is in the wind? Who will lead this band of Humvees?Call it the modern HMMWV? Just a thought, I've had far too much coffee today.
