Here is an update on the turret for the Frag Five project.
Constructive criticism is always welcome.

For the first of these I've ever seen made in 1/35, outstanding. Constructive criticism?....I got none. Great job, I can't wait to see how you attack the interior.

Many thanks. Yes the interior. It took this long for the turret now three more doors and then the interior. The doors might just have to be closed on this one or I'll never get it done. I expect tough love from your quarter so have a good hard look.
Regards

Wow! Spectacular work, Bill!!! It definitely looks the part, and the level of detail is amazing. My only constructive criticism is regarding the size of the bolts on the rear of the turret (the vertical ones attaching the sides plates to the rear plate). Comparing your turret to photos of the real item, it seems the bolts are a bit too large. I'm copying an image that appeared earlier in this thread and your below so that you can see what I mean. Overall, the difference looks fairly small, so it's not something I would really worry about too much, if any.

Thanks very much and I'll try and get some close ups of the joystick and smoke grenades for you. I did have resin grenades but I butchered them so I ended up making them from scratch, the pull rings were fun with my fat fingers..

Desk Jockey, you are correct now that you put it that way, they are way too large. I'll see if it is possible to use smaller ones. I find it difficult to judge when things are that small so I now have a micrometer that certainly helped keep things in perspective. Before 18 Bravo and Matte Black gave me actual dimensions you should have seen how far off my initial turrets were!
Thanks for the sharp eyes.

I agree that the large rear bolts need to be smaller, but comparing to the picture, I don't think they need to be much smaller. Somewhere between what you have now and the bolts on the windows. But I know the size of that turret, so I know what you are dealing with! In the end, I don't think you need to worry about it.

I'm going to give it rest for a while and then look at it to see it fresh. I have smaller bolts and it wouldn't be that hard to do. Do you happen to know if this version of the turret has the hatch installed? Look closely at the images in this thread and I'm not certain the hatch is there.
Thanks for having another look.

If you are talking about the hatch to the turret roof, then I think its unit preference. I know with the earlier GPK turrets the hatches were generally there, but with O-GPK (which is what you are depicting) I think some have it, some don't. As usual with humvees, find a photo and stick to it or just do what you want (I've done both and am content with both accuracy humvee models and asthetic humvee models).

this is just outstanding Man
Well this is great piece of work, I love it
Can you start a business producing some of this turret
Or try to contact some AM companies to help us to obtain such great piece of work ?

Good to know. I do a bit of following a photo and then I see something that I would like in the composition so I add it like I'm either putting a large can of 50 cal on top of the battery box or a cooler. I have no pictures of where the power supply leaves the turret to the battery so I winged it, the turret hatch covers that mystery. Would the turret hatch cover then be hinged in half or opened flat as I have depicted it? The hatch cover on the non glass turrets have one third hinged so it can fold so not to protrude over the turret armor (or for another design reason).
O-GPK, can you elaborate on this acronym, any related documentation?
Thanks for the input Jeff, your insights are always important.

Thanks and coming from a master like yourself, I'm flattered.
If some one wanted to do this AM I'd be happy to work with them. I don't have the skill nor equipment to do this on my own. Seeing what Real Models has done with the Stryker Recon PE is outstanding with aspect of the armored windows and frames similar to the turret I'm doing. I don't know how Miloslav does his work, perhaps with CAD but that's the way everything needs to get done.
There are some very skilled craftsmen here on Armorama and one would think if there were the interest then it would be obvious. Modelers here could fabricate this turret easily and better no doubt, it is just doing it first that is hard. It was Epi's original low non glass turret that got me going, then actual dimensions from some guys in the field helped me to alter the dimensions and of course the Mig turret ring and Frenchy's vast archive of HMMWV images. This was a group effort.
Thanks Seb, hows the sun tan coming along

Considering the joystick is the size of a few drops of cyano glue and the smoke grenades are 4mm long...

Thanks for checking in and for the good words. When you do get settled away you'll have endless Stryker variations to work on as well as your HMMWV's. Too many models so little time. I finally got the Lion Roar PE set you recommended and it is very nice. Now I've got the interior on the table, slowly slowly.
Stay well

I dug out your M1114 build threads, it certainly has helped me along. Now I have the Pro Art radios and com stuff I won't have to do all the hard work YOU did on yours. Look forward to your next HMMWV.

Bill,
Don't forget to go to my Photo Bucket albums and pull the shetts for the radio and BFT cable set up. If I don't have them in there, just let me know, I know I have them on this computer or my home computer.

Pete
I know I should know how to find your Photo Bucket but can you remind me please?
I have some issues with the casting of the hood on my M1114. I bough the newer kit Jeff Edgar reviewed and the casting is 100% better so I'm torn whether to use the crappy warped and badly cast one or go for the new one. After all this work it would be a shame to use the ugly one. Anybody know if I sent it back to Mig if they'd send me a replacement??
Thanks Pete, I know your research will continue to help.

Frenchy is always on top of things!

Bill,
Look in the album marked "Pages from Manuals," you'll find what your looking for there.
Oh, and Mig frequents this web sight, so I don't think it would hurt to ask him if he would exchange it for you.
