Thank you guys,

Martyn, the pool table is made out of plastic card, the inside bands made with some copper foil. The tables foot are made with those child necklace items. I could have used better calibrated ones than those i found in my house, but i only realized that later when i saw them in a hobby shop. The qeue is a sewing needle and the balls are shot from a gun.

Cheers

Hi Andrejz,

Thank you very much,

For the moment we have two pieces of 1,5 x 0,7 joined, so i have actually 1,5 x 1,4 .

The plan is to make one of approx. 2,5 x 3 Meter.
Will take some more years to finish, so be patient :-)

Thanks
Claude

2,5 x 3 Meter??? Claude, whole room where I make and keep my models, guitar along with amplifier combo, computer and a lot of other stuff is something about that size .
My wife would throw me away if I'd ever start building something THAT big

I'd really like to see this one by myself, not only on pictures

Ok, now let's put some colour on this rocks.
I'm using the wet in wet method here by applying a few acrylic colours ranging from greytones to some greener ones and blending the area where they meet wit a brush while both colours are still humid.

After that i'm doing different colored oil washes, depending on the groundcolour. Black, RawUmber or mixed with Earth Green.

Highlighting is then done with Oil colours (the ones mixable with water, drying faster).
The RoyalBlue is wonderful to get some intermediate colours.

That's the look right now after i started adding vegetation. There is more to come

Have a nice weekend

The rock face looks really well blended Claude. I like the mixture of vegetation but somehow I don't think the dead leaves suit.

Keep it up,

Chas

Thanks guys,

Chas, well observed, but you shoot a little to fast
I wrote that there is more vegetation to come and this will be some hedges and little trees, that's why the dead leaves already fixed.

@Ollie, Plasterboard is the palster with paper backing and mattboard is this kind of Styropore with paper backing. so, no, it's not the same. The mattboard is of course much lighter.

I hope indeed to show more in the coming years

Cheers

If i continue like this, probably 4-5 years!
Probably never going to show it anywhere because it is to big for transport. Only expos paying for my transport costs will get to see it and until now none is willing to do that.
So i think that i will find a final display somewhere in Luxembourg in a Museum .

But first lets finish it.

Thanks

Hi Claude,

Great work on the rock face. Given your outline and time period the dead leaves look the business. Look forward to seeing the small trees and hedge.

Thanks for sharing this is just sooooooooooooooo good

Claude,

What are the dimensions of the doors and windows of these two buildings? I am scratchbuilding a structure for my current diorama, and this information would make my job much easier.

The building on the LEFT in this picture:

Thanks. As always, your build log is a source of great inspiration!

Hi Samuel,

Thanks for taking my house as models, i'm flattered.

Im at my office now, so i can't get you the exact measures, but anyway you shouldn't procede lake that. It would mean adapting the height of the house to the windows. It must be the other way.
You certainly have a picture of the house you want to build in your head. The overall look has to be well proportiened! My doors usually have 6 to 6.5 cm (2.36 to 2.55 inch) and 2.2 to 2.5 cm (.86-.95") wide.
What is the design of windows you want to have? Only one or double sided. A one sided window can have about 2 cm (.78") wide and 3(1.18") height , while i double sided has some 3.5 cm (1.38") height by 3 cm wide, the individual side don't need to be as wide as for an single window.
You must consider your interior levels to have the upper windows in a correct and logical height above the floor and also consider the distance between the rows of windows and the roof.
There is no rule in my opinion, it must please the eye, that's all.
All that is done with a little scribbling on a piece of paper in two minutes time.

So , if you want, i will give you the exact measures this evening (for me) , but as i said, it's well possible that it will not work for you if your house has different dimensions.

Cheers
Claude

Claude-- fascinating build. You need to write an article for a modeling magazine about it.
Great job!

Any progress with the idea of a book? I think there would be enough pre-orders from the forums to self publish if the other publishers aren't interseted.

Hi guys, thansk for the comments.

Indeed i am in the progress of writing a book about the whole construction.
The text of the castle build is written, and i am about to incorporate the pictures with an OpenSource Desktop publishing programm, Scribus.
I slowly start to be comfortable with the software, but as i am doing that only in my free time during (psssst don't tell anybody) office hours, it takes some time. It should remain fun and not be work also.
The result of this can be published either in a book, CD or Ebook, i'm not clear about it, depends on the demand and on the final result. The final result will certainly, despite my best effort, be a amateur work. The demand is impossible to evaluate, so i'ts difficult to know how much publishing energy i should put into the project.

Another point is when to stop. If i want to include the whole dio, i must finish it first and that will take a few years time.

But to know that there is at least a bit of interest is good to know!

Thanks

Claude

PS An update of the blog will be posted in a few days

Thanks for the help, Claude.

Thanks for the great advice. I am very new to the whole scratchbuilding aspect of the hobby, so getting help from an expert is always helpful. By the way, I wasn't going to make a copy of your building, I just wanted a general idea of the proper size of windows and doors in 1/35. Your help has given me just that , so thanks again. Here is the current plan for my building. It is definitely not a final plan, though.

Ooops! I didn't mean to hijack your thread.

Great idea on the book. Just keep going, it will get finished someday.

Thanks,
Samuel

Samuel,

nice layout, looks great and well proportionned :-)

Do you want to scratch it completely? This will not be easy with the rounded forms. Perhaps you can make one good original and do copys for the others (and keepthe mould for another project)

Have fun
