Hi Guys,

Only one pic to update tonight, lost the light, but it's an important step in so much as I finally got the roof on. Wasn't easy and needed some filler around the place. Completed the internals today, adding a sten hanging on one of the chairs, some biscuit tins, a signals satchel by the radio and some doecuemnts. In the front I added a pack, ammo box, moved the Pin Up and fitted the wiring from the RT.

Externally I added the side antenna point, steady bar and some rope handles to the box on the top. I sanded down the rear joins and they are almost but not quite gone and added a coat of paint to the outisde. 4 doors to go, the rear door needs a folding table attatched and I may hang a document bag fron the rear LHS. Somewhere along the way I seem to have lost the small rear towing hook, I'm sure there was one with the set I shall have to check around.

If the light is good in the morning I'll add a few updates.

Hi Guys,

The next day and some decent light.

This is the state of play at the moment. I have started to add the decals, I want to make this a vehicle of Guards Armoured Division. These were used maninly by anit aircraft and anti tank Regiments so ideallly a vehicle from 21st Anti Tank Regiment RA or 94th Light Anit Aircraft Regiment RA.

The vehicles were manned by Royal Corps of Signals Personnel hence the RCS blue and white sign.

However, being attached, depolyed to an RA regiment they would probably have carrried RA marking too. So on the side doors and the front plate I will add these once I get a bit more info as marking any RA vehicle is a build in itself.

The early HUW doesn't seem to have carried a spare wheel, so I will fit on on the rear RHS once I figure out a suitable method.

I have found no pics of these in the field so the finish will be 'if it feels right' , still some small fitting to add to the front window screen and the bonet plus build a small folding table for the rear door, then final fininsh and weathering

One point on the Italeri axels, one of the rear sections broke off last night, this also happened on a previous truck build. My thoughts are that in future I will run a metal rod through the length of the axel, something I should probably have done at the beginning. It was an easy fix with some wire and super glue but it does seem to occur with the axels quite often.

some update pics: - including some possible stowage options:

Hey Al,
It's just getting better and better.
I'm over at my Dad's tonight and I just showed him your work.
He was impressed and agreed with my suggestion about the Stens versus SMLE's.
In his opinion, most radio men were terrible shots !!!
Really looking forward to the finished product.
Cheers

Markings for British units can be a finicky thing. If the vehicle you want to model still belongs to the divisional signals unit, i.e. it is temporarily assigned to the arty unit, but frequently goes back to the Signals unit to be reassigned to another place in the Div that needs it, then it would retain the Signals tactical flash. If, however, it was a permanent part of the arty unit, it would have only the arty unit tac sign on it and no signals sign. These things are decided by who owns the vehicle and not necessarily who crews it.

What red numbers were you going to put into the "white over blue" sign?

Hi Paul,

Yip tricky is the word lol, lol.

If I had used the RCS White/Blue on the doors it would have been the marking for the Signals Offr S1 or Detatchment S2/S3/S4.

However, as I don't have any red numbers that's out and I will stick with the RHQ Red/Blue with the white lettering of S2 on the side doors and the same with the AOS 77 for the front and rear. I've left the White/Blue on the front Bonet and rear door to denote a vehicle that doesn't know where it belongs lol, lol and the Guards Division sign on the RHS bonet top and rear door.

I was talking with Derek Barton about this over on IPMS and a mix it seems is possible. Derek has the best web site on the RA I've found yet.

http://www.ra39-45.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/mark/page4.html

I've only ever seen this modelled as a Canadian Vehicle and pics seem few and far between but I hope it will pass muster when done.

You wouldn't have any info on cable reels, top stowage ie was there some on the sliding roof (I would have thought so!) or whether or not ther carried a set of poles to raise the height the antenna?

Unfortunately I have seem no pics of it actually in the field,

Cheers

Al

Hi Guys,

Any thoughts on the cable reel and the poles for the antenna?????

Well I have the doors fitted, the decals in place, some 'mud' underneath, some stowage on top and a somewhat dirtier looking vehicle. The spare tyre field mod is drying and the situation board is inside. No sign yet of the tow hook, it may have gone to the carpet monster!!

Still a lot of small work to do, but I'll post some pics tomorrow if the light is good.

Hi Guys,

A little more done. Looking at the pics I may need to reset the drivers doors a bit but they are only held in place with a tiny drop of glue. On the frames, I'll see if I can cover them in 'canvas' and store them in the cab.

The stowage is set on top and I have the spare wheel to add (field mod) and maybe a cable reel.

This is the state of play at the moment. The vehicle will represent a WT from No 2 Det, 21st Anti Tank Regiment, Royal Artillery, Guards Armoured Division. More work required!!

Apologies for the pics, wrong time of day and the light isn't right.

Anyway you'll get the idea.

Turned out really well Al.

Now that you spent the money on the resin version and did all the hard work we can probably expect someone to release it in plastic.

Hi Pat,

It's not the first time that has happened , but I would be delighted if only it were so.

Added the spare wheel as a field modification this evening and I have a few more small bits to do, plus finish off the painting and weathering.

Cheers
