Hi Al, take a look here, looks like 16" wheels to me. 13" sounds awful small.

G'day Alan, You'll need the small wheels for C8A, if you check the link James has put up you'll notice C8A have wheels with 6 wheel studs, all the others have 8 wheel studs. only the C8 had the smaller wheels. I've checked my own owners manual as well, since i owned the real thing once.

Hope this helps.

Hi James,

Thanks for the link. Looking at the data above it says 9.25 x 16 for tires???

There doesn't seem to be anyone who makes replacement small tires so I shall work with what I've got.

Ross,

thanks for the info, but as above I don't see a repalcement set that meets the spec, well at least not so far.

Some progress pics; I've mated the front and end of the truck, not 100% sure if this is exactly correct, as I can't check the accuracy of the length until I fix the front windowscreen. I shall build the 3 sub assemblies and make any necessary adjuctments once I have the front screen on.

Thanks for all the info and pics guys really helpful.

Al

I checked my CMP book, and the tire size matches the refence pics Sean posted. Remember that the fenders were large to accomodate the 20 inch tire sizes, so 16 looks small. 13 would be tiny under there, and 16 seems standard for the 15cwt class.

Hi Randell,

Thanks, I'll go with the kti ones, the Hussars look great but it's added expense unless I get a 'must have' urge or or there is some particular reason why I should change them I'll pass for now. Might go back and count the bolts though

Al

Later: 8 the same as th kit ones.

Hi Jimmy,

The main issue with the 15cwtare the doors, they are hard to fit, at least they were on my last one. That said the doors on the real thing don't look to fit to well either Too early in the build to say yet.

You get marking for 3 vehicles with the 15cwt kit. Australian, Canadian or British and the Plus Models conversion has a set of Canadian ones.

Hi Jimmy,

I did the last one as an RT truck as well. Needs a little more work.

I've been told the tyres should be 13inch and not the 16inch ones that are provided with the Italeri kit.

Hey Al,
I dug out my old copy of "Canada's Fighting Vehicles Europe 1943-45".
It lists the tire size for the Chevrolet/General Motors CMP C8 Truck, Heavy Utility, Wireless as 9.25" x 16".
Most other Ford and GM CMP trucks appear to have used tires in the 9" x 16" or 10.5" x 20" range.
The Ford and GM 8cwt Truck, General Service appear to have been the only CMP trucks that used a 9" x 13" tire.
If you carefully read the description paragraph on the 3rd page of Sean's post, it reads that the C8 HUW had a 101" wheelbase and used 9.25" x 16" tires.
Unless you can find other information, I think you can safely get away with using the kit tires or the Hussar resin replacements.
Cheers

Hey Al,
Turns out that I have the same reference book that Sean showed in his post, "Canadian Military Vehicle Profile Series, Volume II".
It clearly states that the C8 HUW used 9.25" x 16" tires.
I think it's definate that you can use the kit tires or the Hussar resin replacements.
Ain't research wunderful ? ? ?
Cheers

Hi John,

Thanks I had already picked up on that so I'll stay with the 16 inch.

Thanks

Hi Al just tuned in to this. Looks very good. You're right to be dissappointed in the Plus models kit- I just looked up the price of it. Considering what you get it's certainly not value for money.

What you've done with it so far is great though. I look forward to more.

Hi Pat,

Thanks for dropping in. You get a fret of PE too, which will add a lot to the exterior. Busy week this week, might get back to it Friday evening all being well.

John,

on the 2nd page of your post, the last picture shows the stowage compartment on the LHS rear open. Does anyone know what went into this???

Cheers guys

Hi Al,
It looks like the radio gear was situated at the rear of the truck's compartment and that the stowage compartment you're asking about is actually a hatch/window, there appears that there was one on each rear side of the truck body.

If you look at the last photo in the lower LHS, the window on the RHS of the truck is open and it appears that there's an open window on the LHS of the truck.
Cheers

Hi John,

Wrong pic

http://s43.photobucket.com/albums/e373/sdunnage/?action=view¤t=hup2.jpg

Middle of the 3, bottom LHS, the picture of the side view of the truck with the small stowage hatch open on the top right. Any idea as to what went in that?

Cheers

Hey Al,

If it's this one, I believe it's a window.

if you compare it with the pic of looking inside the rear of the van, there is a box objest on the upper lhs?

The photo on the lower right that shows the radio gear is actually only half of the picture.
When you fold out the page, the photo shows an open window on the upper LHS of the truck body.
Unfortunately, I don't have a scanner so I can't post the whole photo.

To me it looks more like a window than a storage box.

Hi Guys,

Nothing major to report, just a litttle clean up of some items. In the pics you can see the top stowage box provided with the Plus models kit and the small fret of PE that provides the runners for the top hatch and antenne mount plus various small fittings for the exterior. You will notice the truck fuel tanks, again these come with the Plus Models conversion, and one has a broken pipe, this wasn't in the sealed bag so this must have been poor inspection before the parts were sealed. The detail on the tanks is quite soft but as they wil be under the shell probably not such a big issue. The top stowage box has nice side detail but the catches are pretty basic.

Also in the pic are the Formations No 19 Set and No 19 High powered amplifier.

Anyway some pics.

Hope to make a start on the table and some of the inside stowage bins/racks this evening.

Al
