Alright, gentlemen! I was at the store today (and oh what a glorious day it was!!) and bought a whole bunch of kits (6 in all). Matchbox/Revell re-releases were scarce though, they had a Pz IV/L70, a Puma ant the two I bought: Chuchill AVRE and LRDG-Set. I will probably start with the Churchill as I haven't built one of those and maybe do the other as well later.
I also got an Airfix Matilda for the follow-on campaign...

I am glad to hear that you had so much good luck in finding the re-releases. That is at least two of us that have had fortune smile on us this week. 
Now don't get carried away and just save at least one of those kits for the campaign.

I'd also like to welcome Dani (madmax5510) who officially enlisted today(check mark added to the list above). That brings our total to 23 with still almost two months before the official start.

Interesting how the box art has changed with the Revell releases. I see the Priest is now British rather than American crewed, while the M40 is no longer in NW Europe in 1945, but has moved to Korea, I guess that is meant to be, judging by the blazing T34 and the snowy mountain in the background.
Not sure if anyone else here has linked to this site already, but for all the old box art this is not bad. Some of them have examples of completed kits, although without sounding rude, I think we'll produce better results than some of these!!

I was so excited with receiving the kits that I totally failed to notice the difference in either kit box when compared to the originals. I haven't opened either box as I've not wanted to be tempted to jump the gun on the build. The diorama base for the SdKfz 11 and in particular the Morris and 17 pdr are quite impressive. They would definitely make a great start for something truly impressive with just a bit of work.Quoted Text

Thanks for posting and sharing those pictures, Gary. I recognize the LRDG jeep but the two olive drab jeeps are unfamiliar to me. I know there is a Jeep that comes with the Morris truck but I don't think that it has a .50 cal mount.

Kind of like the recent Academy 1/72 kit). As I was taking the pics I got to thinking the M-3 was out of scale as the hatchs on top were really small, I have been in a Stuart with that hatch type and at 6'+ it was tight but those on the model kook way small!

I've got a 1/72 Hasegawa Stuart that came with a commander figure and I swear that when I first saw it I thought that maybe it was out of scale. I've a book with a picture of the crew exiting a Stuart and I swear that I can't imagine how four guys could fit in that thing. In our area we have an M5 Stuart as a war memorial. It was used as an APC so there is no turret. I remember crawling all over the thing when I was a kid but the last time I looked at it I swear that at 5' 10" you'd need one big shoe horn to get me through the drivers hatch. Cheers,

There has been a question raised via PM as to whether we might allow a larger diorama providing the original base is incorporated into the build. I personally do not have a problem with this idea but what are others opinions on this proposal.

Well count me in. A bit of a milestone for me. Number one this will be my first campaign participation and number two...the biggie, it may well be the first kits I manage to finish
Despite tinkering around the edges and getting a fair few kits part way built I've not actually completed a kit since my return to modelling. Also most of my stuff is 1:35 scale so this will be a test of my eyesight as well, although I've got my Optivisor all ready.
I must admit this won't be a big nostalgia trip on my part as I never really brought Matchbox kits. I was a Airfix modeller till Mr Tamiya started sending his stuff over, but it will be nice to get back to those innocent times, when I seemed to have more "fun" modelling than the deadly serious accuracy issues of today.
I've held back from joining till now but the news I've won a Matchbox Char B set on ebay this afternoon has given me the green light. Although I may change that choice to a Jagdpanther or Panzer 4 depending on how I fair in the next coming week or so.
Yes, lets have an Airfix one next please.

Hehe, these little kits bring back old memories. I used to have a whole army in 1/76 and 1/72 as a kid. How a bout a Fujimi folow-on-follow-on...
I remember the M36 and M4A1 were really great little kits with full interiors. One came with a Jeep (the M4A1 I think) and the other with a Harley.By the way, you can put in the Churchill AVRE as my definite build. I will decide after that whether I'll build the LRDG as well.
As for the question of integrating the base in a larger dio, I think it should be allowed.

I'm in I just bought the Wespe from Revell, and was about to ask why the name of the company was erased on the sprues. I suspected it was Matchbox, but now I know. So I guess, I'm going back tomorrow, to get another kit to work on in the meanwhile.

I guess I'm OK with the extra bits on the base and around the base - but, well, just don't let it go too far ! Remember the vehicles themselves have to be straight out of the box. We want these kits finished!
Once tinkering around creeps in there's no telling where it might end. . . extra figures, conversions, super-detailing, resin accessories, etched sets (heaven forbid).
I'm all for an Airfix campaign too . . . and they're still available.

Personally, the OOB rule should be tantamount, though boring out gun barrels and minor work is perfectly acceptable.

Well people I've taken your comments under advisement and I thank all those that have made them. My read of everyone's feeling is to keep the builds as close to OOB as possible for this particular campaign (with the minor enhancements permitted by the original rules). It just so happens that Dani(madmax5510) has posted an interesting build using a Matchbox diorama base in the Braille scale forum. Link here. BTW, he is not the one who posed the original question. While this use of an original base to create a larger diorama is fascinating, I believe that going this far in the campaign exceeds the mandate set out in our original rules. Once again, if in doubt please feel free to ask. Comments on this topic are always appreciated.

Is this the kind of modifications to the base we're talking or is it already too much (not that the AVRE-base would have any room for modifications...
