@ Gabo thanks for posting:

@ Bob that is what I was going to post later. I can do either build as long as the welded hull that I have is the same as the one for the Marine M4A2, if not then just the composite.

Does anyone have an Academy M3 Stuart they are willing to trade for a Tamiya M3 Grant?

Thanks for the help.

For the 3rd TB on Iwo the Dragon Tarawa M4A2 would be perfect.
On the Composite Ole Miss the dragon kit will get you everything but the correct turret, need one that is low bustle and no pistol port.
I didn't match it up with what you have but you get the idea.

Thanks to everyone that has enlisted on the campaign page;

Hello Bob,
I finally found the book after going through all 158 books I just bought.(Got a good deal on them, About $15 each with shipping included)
U.S. Marines in World War 2
Tarawa and the Marshalls
A Pictorial Tribute
By Eric Hammel
This book has a lot of photo's for the equitment, Troops and enplacements used by the Japanse Army on the isalnds.
Eric Hammel has alot of other books on the Pacific during WW2. I would encourage anyone to get his set, There are 19 published so far.
If anyone need me to look for anything in this book, Let me know and I will see if there is a Photo.
I remembered to sign up,
Cheers,
Bruce

A Diorama

OK, diorama it is (the first ever) Lets see, little tank with little men and something flat and maybe a tree or two. No problem Bob I will come up with something for either the M3A1 or the M4 Composite.

Count me in. I'm doing a Tarawa diorama as well, using Dragon's U.S. Marines for Tarawa and Iwo Jima, Dragon's Japanese Infantry and Masterbox' Japanese Infantry sets from the Bloody Atoll series.

Momann, If you want that diorama for this campaign you'll have to stop and wait untill the campaign start date. I noticed you posted some pics already.Posted: Wednesday, October 28, 2009 - 05:15 AM UTC

Hi Bob:
The decals came in the mail today, thanks. I now have my official entry the M3A1
"Painintheass" and for the decals it will be a diorama. Unless you want something in trade.

In addition to my previsous post, I also have the entire set of History of Marine Corps Operations in World War II, all volumes. These are the books comparable to the CMH's Green Books that Bob posted a link to, they cover operations from Pearl Harbor to the Occupation of Japan. As an aside, there is also a volume on Marine Operations in Europe and Africa, not really relevant to the campaign.

@ Bob, I'm still looking for that Tarawa AAR file, I know that I have it. Don't give up hope!

Robert, I haven’t seen that USMC Tanker book looks promising. You’re welcome on the decals, looking forward to the diorama.

Thanks for the update John; I suppose I’ll just have to work on my patience. No rush, how’s your choice coming along?

Up to 15 enlisted, if you haven't as yet hit the enlistment button please do so.

Looks like everyone has pretty much made up their minds on what they will be doing. If you need any specifics or photos or info, just speak up and we'll see if we can find what you need.

Hello Bob,
The best I have been able to find on the SBD shot up and landing on a carrier during the Coral Sea/Midway is on a program called Wings Over the Pacific on the Military Channel.
There are a few movies of them all shot up on deck in the Victory at Sea series, Close enought for my Dio of a SDB all shot up coming in for a landing?
I spent 4 hours looking at the National Archives looking for a photo of an SDB on Final all shot up, No no luck.
Let me know if it is OK, If not I have a back up plane for another Dio in mind.
Cheers,
Bruce

Hi Bruce,
From what I've read SBD's were in the Pacific until Aug 1944, I’m sure they were operating off of carriers and I’m sure some of them were shot up, so it sounds like it would be perfect for the campaign. Should be great for a diorama. There is no requirement for a specific description or photo of what you want to build; it just has to be plausible to be in the campaign.
Good luck with the build,
Bob

Hello Bob,
Thanks for the Ok. I am still going to look for a photo of one. It seems everyone else has a photo and I do not want to be to much of a "ODD Duck"

Bruce, I looked but could not find a photo of a shot up SBD making a landing. I know they are out there but they are hiding from me. I did find this list of SBDs by serial number that shows where the plane ended up. Don't know if it will help you any. linkname

I have both the early and late production M5A1 from AFV Club enroute. I belive the early kit includes markings for Saipan. I just need to find markings for the late kit for Leyte. It would have been really handy if the manufacturers had stepped in on this one and helped us out with a few new kits. I need figures to go with them. Army infantry for the Pacific. And I'm still waiting for that M3 37mm anti tank gun in plastic. Oh well, you do what you can with what you have until you run out of money.

Russ, it’s like everything you wanted to know about SBD’s but were afraid to ask, plenty of good info in that link. I also have some M5A1 photos in Leyte if you need them, let me know. The markings look pretty generic some have a bunch of chalk markings you may or may not want to duplicate.

Doug, looks like a perfect photo for Bruce, I haven’t found a single one. Bruce if you need it more shot up I guess we can keep looking.

Welcome aboard Chas, we expect to see at least 5 Coconut Palms in your diorama, I still cheat on mine.

Calvin, plenty of time, stick to your studies and we’ll look for your build later.

Turning out to be a great campaign. I'm really looking forward to the start. It seems as if mostly everyone has what they want to build in mind.
Bob
