Just made a deal for Dragon #6361 M4 81 mm Mortar Carrier, is this allowed in this campaign even though it is only a half track? If not I also have Dragon # 6462 US Marine Sherman and a Tamiya M-3Lee in the stash.

Good question Sal, looks like there is a bit of a loophole there. I wouldn't be opposed to it, but I'm not sure that's the direction Scott wants to go with this campaign. Looks like it would be a nice kit, I just added the M21 to my collection

Yes, this is a loop hole, It has tracks, armor and an 81 mm tube, but if you guys what to keep it at American Tanks I can certainly roll with something else.
What is the consensus

I'm cool with allowing halftracks. It just needs tracks and armor, right? Not necessarily a (big) gun. So an M2 or M3 halftrack would fit fine. I'll probably be doing a halftrack myself or an M47.

Thanks guys for that vote of confidence. The old Tamiya M-3Lee kit that I had in the stash just wasn't doing anything for me 
Now to do some research on this vehicle since I don't know much about it but it looked cool on the box art

That Lee wouldn't be doing much for me either

That half-track is fine by me, but could you post lots of "in progress" shots? I've got the old Tamiya version in my stash and I'd like to see how different the Dragon one is.
That Tamiya Lee isn't much good unless you throw AM parts and effort at it. Even then it'd be best used as a kitbash for a TRV or an artillery tractor rather than a gun tank. (The recent Academy one is miles better, although you still need an AM set of bogies because Academy got them wrong...)

Tom, Tamiya's is the M21 MMC, a vehicle based on the M3, whereas the M4 is based on the M2 Halftrack. Dragon did both, see the reviews here:

Hi Tom,
Yeah as I look through the box of the Lee I get this like there is not mush to this kit feeling.
Do you have the Academy kit, would a kit bash work between the 2? I'll try and post as many shot as possible once we get rolling. I thought I read some where that the Tamiya half- track was lacking as well

how bout halftracks Scott? they got some tracks or is it tanks and the like only im sure i could dig one o them up need be got a pershing sitting there waiting for an excuse to build it plus many halftracks.

I got approval for a M4 81 mm Mortar Carrier, its got tracks, armor and an 81 mm tube, you may have to specify what type of half track

oh ok thanks Sal i already built the M4 but i still got he M21 mortar carrier plus M2 anM3 so what ever Scott wants i got pritty much.

Looks like I'm going to be going with a 1/35 Dragon Abrams, most likely the M1A1 AIM, but may go with a M1A2 SEP.

I'd like to join. Built some shermies now ('bout four) and wanted something more modern.
Huge question mark: the Tamiya M48A3 any good? It's got a switch-slot and a battery-bed in the lower hull for crying out loud.
It also feels grossly overscale.
So? Worth building or is it not 1:35 more like 1:25?

I seem to recall that one thing to fix on the Tamiya 1/35 M48 is the height of the tank. It sits too high on the suspension. You need to reposition the road wheel arms to lower it (don't remember by how much).

Sorry to bug you, but just turned a Tamiya Merkava into an airbrush testbed after starting it because it DOES seem to be way too big for 35....
