I'm signed up and already have my plan/backstory... for the UPS to get into those backwoods places, they could build their distinctive trucks on a humvee chassis:
Okay. This is PROBABLY my plan. Others might come to me before May 15th.
cheers!
-Sean.

I’m in.
I've been in my new place for six months and have not touched an X-Acto so...
“What If” I get off my lazy butt and build something ! LOL
I’m going to build an old BMP (maybe HobbyCraft? - kit was a POS) I started years ago. It’s going to be a flying / anti-grav vehicle in WW3. I’ll use a classic diorama idea (the Matchbox Panther crashing thru the brick wall) but using the BMP.
My back story is loosely taken from a Dr Who (#4 - Tom Baker - the wacky one) episode in which the planet / time he lands in is fighting it’s final war / end of civilization. He notes this by looking at the soldiers around him or are armed with every thing from body armor and a plasma rifle to a bow & arrow (end of civilization = breakdown in technology & manufacturing, etc…).
I kind of like this idea because it will let me raid the scrap box for all types of figures and weapons. I hoping it will make for a dynamic & interesting diorama.
My two cents
Tom

I hope my idea passes the second rule ; my idea is “loosely” based on the movie starship troopers :
It’s the year 2048 (yes we survive 2012). What if the earth has united, no more barriers, one country one language and now humans, as usual, search for more power and more resources. Their quest for these resources leads them to a planet in another solar system, named S-7. When the humans land on the planet, they discover they are not alone! The BUG’s (not an accurate term since most of the species are arthropods) did not like having newcomers on their planet. Again humans they own the planet and believe that BUG’s, no matter what, should be squashed. They plan an invasion of the BUG’s nesting place, assuming them to be mindless/inferior creatures they just march in and are caught off- guard when a massive enemy force ambushes them.
For this build I was thinking of having a German Spahpanzer 2 LUCHS from Revel with a blue/grey digital camouflage pattern with slight modifications. Made up language with a new flag that represents this new earth. I might be using the Tamiya modern infantry set alongside (but I have almost no skill at changing infantry fig’s). The diorama setting will be a moonscape or alien jungle, while the latter might be more interesting I think a desolate moonscape is more appropriate. I will be using toys to represent the alien’s.
Regards,

Gary: Thanks for the quick turnaround!
Sean: Excellent, now I'll be able to move to Montana and not have to worry about my orders reaching me!
Vladimir: Sounds good!
Tom: That's going to be a cool display piece, and a great use of that universally bad kit!
If there are no objections, I am going to start marking everyone's projects on the chart as they come up. Only a month and a half until we kick off guys!

Here's my "history" to accompany the build:
In the autumn of 1947 the Coalition of United Free Nations launched an assault on the city of Warsaw and the area surrounding it. Codenamed ˝Outlaw˝, the operation was one of many envisioned to help establish a favorable defensive line for the winter of 1947-48. Tasked with securing the northern outskirts of the town were elements of the former Brigade Feldherrnhalle. Its depleted ranks were filled with a mix of convalescent veterans and mediocrely trained recruits, but it was not enough to bring it up to its full complement, with strength returns indicating that roughly 65% of the division was available. Of these, about 55% was sufficiently armed. The division was found lacking in heavy weapons and artillery support, but received a lot of new AFVs. Most notable among these were the new Sd.Kfz. 285/2 E10 ausf. B and Sd.Kfz.284 E25 ausf. A, of which much was expected. In order to supply an adequate amount of infantry, 5. Fallschirmjäger Regiment was organically attached. This more or less thrown together mix of Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe troops formed what would become known as Kampfgruppe Feldherrnhalle. On October 13th 1947, Kampfgruppe Feldherrnhalle –deemed to be as unfit for a full-scale assault as it had been at the signing of the 1945 ceasefire – began its assault on the northern districts of the city of Warsaw.
The full text deals with politics and a different ending to the holocaust, so it's not really appropriate to put up here.
Build will be a Sd.Kfz. 285/2 E10 Ausf. B and some troops preparing for their assault on Warsaw.

Thanks Jeremy. It's from my own imagination. Currently working out the details of how the war started. Will post a little extension as the campaign starts.

Tom,
Awesome depiction. I was going to say "cool that Jersey barrier is still used so far into the future", but then I realized you hadn't ruled out WW3 in the very near future.
I can only imagine the force those fans need to lift an AFV-- good future stuff.
The people are nice and busy and the layout looks really active and interesting.
Thanks for posting!

Fret not! It doesn't start for another month and a half, and it doesn't end for a year after that. Plenty of time for people to join.

Thanks Sean,
The Jersey barrier is actually supposed to be a sidewalk w/ brick wall behind it (Ron V. is NOT loosing any sleep over my art skills - LOL).
I think the fans will be some kind of anti-grav drive, I just made a 3D animation of it, here's the link.

Thanks Jeremy & Duncan,
I do have CAD (an old ver. of AutoCAD - very powerful but very expensive and hard to use) and I use Google SketchUP (easier to use & free) too.
I use AutoCAD to draw the 3D line work and SketchUP to render (color & texture) and do basic animation. The BEST thing about CAD is:
- you can see what things will look like or how they fit before cutting plastic
- and you can print a copy in 2D in the home printer, and use it as a cutting template.
I'll have more soon, I'll most likely draw the whole BMP in CAD and add my mod's. That's what I did w/ my E-5 build.

Tom, I finally looked at that video clip-- very impressive artwork all around!
As for me, I discovered that Squadron has an Academy M997 humvee Maxi-ambulance on sale for only $12 (plus shipping), so I'm giddy to get one and start cutting it up at the stroke of midnight on May 14th.
I'll have to buy a newspaper for the photo early that morning!
Since it's a what-if anyway, the kit accuracy won't affect what I'm doing, so the cheaper the better for me.
Anyway, still at the planning table...

Tom: Awesome, I haven't had the opportunity to try my hands out with CAD. I remember when you were working on the E-5 project and were trying out different camo schemes in 3D.
Sean: That's the way to go, grab something affordable and have fun! Tick Tock
Andy: Great to have you with us! Feel free to throw some of those ideas out on the table

Hi Jeremy!
I was thinking about a German E-50 SPG with a 128mm gun, a British amphibious attack vehicle but probably I will go for a Chieftain in IDF service (that was not impossible at all) with fourth generation add-on armor. I do not have any sketches yet but the Chiefty would look like a Magach 6B Gal Batash.

Does it have to be a new build? Would it be acceptable to take one or two old builds and re-hash them? Something like changing:

I've been working on ths off-and-on for a while when bored. The turret is off a Trumpeter M1117. As it was a "what-if" i decided to give it an unusual paint scheme....
