These RVD's are ever used anywhere? Exactly how many of them, do you know that? I'm just curious..

Unfortunately I don't know it. I know only that that made them very little. The exact quantity isn't known.

The last I heard about Kharkov's efforts to "diesel-ize" the T-80 at various times is that the prototypes never numbered more than 4 at most. And there is no evidence that the "experimental prototypes" were ever issued to troops. Most likely they were put into Kharkov's storage yard. While Kharkov was VERY energetic in their attempts, even they could only produce so many "experiments" before getting in trouble for "wasting resources". More evidence may have come up since I stopped actively searching for information, the last 2 years or so, but it still seems to stand for the moment.

If anyone has interesting photos of T-80's with unique changes, please post them in the T-80 build thread with good captions...

Hi Cagkan. I have been really admiring your build so far. Not really a fan of modern armor, but its always great to see old school building going on. The model looks great so far.

Thanks Frank, it is a slow going project (I have two other campaign builds), but I think it has to be, I am researching about my models nearly every day for references and information. It is really a pleasure to correcting inaccuracies and scratch building tiny details, they are giving depth to the model along with the quality aftermarket parts and good finishing. It is the "meaning of modelling" in my book.

Small update:

I received several aftermarket goodies, I have 3 barrels now, my research continues that which one is the correct for my BV.

These are:
RB Model 125mm L/48 gun
Accurate Armour 125mm D81 gun
Model Point 125mm 2A46M gun

Along with them I have Voyager's smoke discharger, antenna mount and ERA brick set.

And the last one Panzer Art's T-80 resin wheel set.

I begun working on the turret, very slowly.

Hello!

looks really nice! I already tried the PE ERA from E.T. Models and Voyager. Build over 300 bricks and it´s easier as one would think. Keep up the great work,

Andreas

Thanks guys, I don't think that the ERA will be a problem, but it will be time consuming for sure.

By the way, I'm waiting an opinion and advice about the correct gun. Jacques? Mauro? Anyone??

I know that the difference between the T-80U and the T-80UD is just the powerplant, U has gas turbine, UD has the diesel engine. Except this, they are similar tanks, am I wrong?

Almost but not absolutely. As they have different engines, means also different cases behind. Also on trifles they have distinctions.

Not surprisingly. Even at us in Russia very few people knows about it. The tank and remained only at a development stage. Works on it stopped after disorder of the Soviet union.

T-80U and T-80UD have many different details.

T-80U - Gas Turbine engine with deck like T-80B. Manual AAMG. Different snorkel gear. Different box arrangement on turret.

T-80UD - Diesel engine with much different engine deck. Remotely operated AAMG gun and hatch setup. Differing snorkel gear and turret gear.

For the most part, they are very similar aside from the engine decks. But the devil is in the details...
