Finally got back to this and started the ground work. I took some pics. The problem is,I am trying to fit two photos into one dio. The photographer that is taking the pics does not move and so the two groups of POWs are shot from the same point so it will be impossible to get my dio to look JUST like the pix.
I took some final pics before I blend the scenes. First group of WSS guys;

Fantastic to see these guys with some groundwork around them- I am still amazed by the way you've managed to get the figures looking so like the photograph.

Thanks so much guys, for looking in again on this old build. I am really doing my best to play catch up with you guys as every one is doing such cool looking groundwork.
Since I got back into building figs and dio I have found that there is a whole lotta stuff available now that I never had back in the day. Makes it a lot easier.

Awesome groundwork dude. What did you use for the dirt road? It looks great.
I'm almost done reading "Tigers in Normandy" right now, & it's verrrryyy tempting to drop what I'm working on now and recreate a scene from that

Thanks for the kind comments Conor. For the dirt road I made a base of cell u clay and cut some subtle tire grooves in it,then painted it polly S "dirt" color. I then applied a thin cover of diluted white glue and sprinkled real dirt from my garden on it. I was trying to capture te look of the road in the picture and I noticed the dirt from my front flowerbed looked very similar as far as color and consistancy.
It would be nice to add more "interest" to the road,but...it is supposed to look like the pic.
By coincidence,I am also re reading Tigers in Normandy at the moment.

Jerry I've been intrigued by this build since I first saw it and I've got to say I'm really loving it all coming together now, it looks fantastic. The expressions, details like hair and the layout capture the scene of the photos masterfully. Many, many congratulations on this piece my friend!

Thanks for sticking with it through this many months buddy!! Always nice to hear from the Irish contingent.
What did you think of the backdrop? Effective? Or POS? It was something new for me so I am curious.

good to see this one finished. It turned out really good. I love how the photographing GI turned out and how he works in the scene. Are you going to showcase it with the sequence of photo's that inspired this built?
The defeat and desperation comes out so good in this diorama. Plus it is all really well painted. Great job. I think worthy of submission for an On Display.

Thanks for the kind words my friend. I am glad that you took the time to comment!
What is this "On Display" thing about??
I do have plans to include te original pics. I made copies of them yesterday but they quality was not good. I have to find another place. I was thinking of putting them in a two space matte board? Maybe a short description of the events in typing below that?

Basically a photo-feature.. 'On Display" was what it was used to be known as. Send in your pics to Armorama they deserve it.
I think your idea with the included photographs will work very well. Normally I don't like that sort of stuff at all. Most of the times I see it done on events it looks incredibly cheap. But because you have the photographer so prominent in the scene I think (if done in a classy quality way) it really adds to the overall diorama. With or without guiding text. Put them in the same order as the figures. And you have your snapshots in time sequence.
