Thanks Pat! I would love to know who this Obersturmfuehrer was. It looks like he was taken prisoner with his whole platoon or maybe what was left of his company. If the caption on the pic is true and this was near Cheux on 27June then this could only be 12SS Pioneer Abt or I/12SS Arty Regt. There were not a lot of officers left by then so it shouldn't be too hard to find out who he is. I wish Axis History forum wasn't down right now.

I've had a similar idea in mind for a long time- whether I'll ever get around to building it is another story- it's this pic of a wee scottish soldier(I think) with two SS prisoners-
I really like the idea of this little guy with his two Ubermenschen prisoners

2 x Verlinden SS soldiers and a Tamiya British soldier?
You captured those figures and their movement nicely Jerry. Looks very promising.

Pat- track down the Resicast British soldier carrying a Sten gun- the figure is of small stature and I actually have him in a scene with Verlinden Germans and the height ratio is similar to the pic.
Jerry- I really like the look of this project. You have managed to capture the essence of the scene already- your sculpting skills are top class (do you use magic sculp?) and I am very much looking forward to seeing this scene develop, its a good one! What book is it out of?

Thanks Patrick, may the road rise up to meet you, etc,
I have seen the last two pics in this sequence in about 3 books but I found out yesterday on Missing Links that there are 2 previous pics in the sequence and one of them is the one you posted!
My plan is to replicate the folks in the first 2 pics(with a wee scotsman included)

Thanks for looking in Frank,it must be an Irish night!
I once did a dio using a Tamiya dude as a Confederate drummer boy and a 1/32 Airfix dude as a soldier. The size differnece was dramatic.

Thanks for your kind words Karl,as we continue the Irish session,
I use 2 part epoxy putty but I cut corners by finding arms and legs that are pretty close and then modifying them. If nothing is available I make my own. The heads and hands are from Hornet and Alpine.
The pic is from the excellent hard bound large format tome on the History of the 12SS PzDiv but I have seen it before several places. See the previous text please,as I hate to type and am aweful at it?

Wow, already looks great. It never really occurred to me that I could look through books to find diorama ideas, I've got enough here to keep me busy for months. Is the photo of the soldiers surrendering? Or retreating? I can't tell

They have surrendered, unless you do the Monty Python version and they are retreating with their hands in the air yelling"run away, run away"!!! LOL

Got the fifth wheel almost done
Here is where he fits into the picture
I love those hornet heads! This one shows just enough shock and fear for a recently captured guy. The foiliage loops made my eyes burn last night though as they were the thinnest strips of lead foil that I ever cut and glued!

You really did pick a great Hornet head for that guy- the sculpting of his stance really compliments the shock and fear on his face.

Thanks Karl, you are too kind buddy!
I think that he needs a little more too his left pant leg in the thigh area and the head, while excellent from Alpine,is too thin in the face and I gave hime too much length in the neck. Not happy with his hat yet either. Still work to do here. I also could use some better photog skills! LOL
I have found out some cool intel today on the officer in the first pic. According to the known facts I have it is reasonable to assume that the officer is Obersturmfuehrer Kuret of the 12SS Pioneer Abt and members of his Kompanie. Very cool,if confirmed, when you can put a name to a picture.

Yes it is always great to find out some facts behind photos like that.
As regards the left leg- from what I can see it looks like an extra fold or two would be needed just above his boot- then again I don't have the book in front of me so its just based on what I can see in the photo of the photo!
Again, just my 2 cents but I reckon if you gave him less length in the neck it would sit back down into his chest a bit far- a slight downward angle (he appears to be looking down toward the ground in the photo- whereas he is looking more ahead in the sculpt) might be worth a try but I reckon the height of the neck looks okay.
Anyway, good luck with whatever you decide to do!

I use hornet and alpine heads and I use 2 part epoxy putty for the sculpting work. I do not use the armature method for arms and legs as it takes too much time. I use old parts from figure kits and modify them. I start by picking the pose,in this case it is the third guy from the front of the line in the picture.
I chose the legs because of the boots and the torso because of the collar.
Next I make a few cuts
I find a head and arms that are fairly close
I remove the extra plastic from the donor figure and then start on the details by carving or adding putty. I will post a picture when I get that done to this new figure. HTH
