Great work Jesse! Just superb!

I'd better first to a lesson here of how to wheater an interior before I started on my quest.

Hardly Dave. I think you might have outdone me on the interior weathering. I'm enjoying your build.

Base coat is on and looks pretty good. Too late for pictures, plus... it's boring. Imagine the last set of pictures, but overall tan/yellow.

Ok, disruptor color has been added. The pattern is based off the diagrams from Mike Starmer's book. I have already added the white counter-shading, but haven't photographed it yet.

Base coat is a Tamiya mix thinned with Mr. Surface lacquer thinner.

Disruptor (camo) is a Tamiya mix thinned with iso. alcohol. It was a mix of Field Grey and Khaki.

This lets me 'wear' the camo without upsetting the base coat. Those results will be posted later.

Jesse, you camo paint scheme is perfect. The Grant looks fantastic. Well. done.

I've used Tamiya's yellow top thinner which is basically Lacquer thinner for thinning the paint I use for the camo pattern, since it breaks down the acrylic paint particles finer then X20-A does. Your procedure is the opposite of mine. I would think that the Alcohol thinned acrylic paint wouldn't give you as fine a line. I've been doing camo paint schemes for almost 40 years, and never had any issues with using the same type of thinners for each layer.

Hi Joel,

The camo in mid 1942 was added on using locally sourced paints and applied in less than ideal conditions, typically in field shops and the like. Because of that, photos show that these colors typically weathered pretty easily, and looked quite worn by the time of El Alamein, which is when the newer British color orders showed up. So I purposefully cut the base layer with lacquer to give it bite. And I purposefully used alcohol on the camo. Now, I can go back with a clean brush dipped in alcohol and scurb the camo to show weathering, and it won't strip the base color. So I get a beaten up and weathered camo color on top of a much better applied solid base color.

It's a very similar procedure that I used on the Chaffee. Base OD thinned with lacquer. White thinnd with alcohol so I could then weather the white without pulling off the OD.

Hopefully that explains it.

Jesse, thanks for your detailed explanation. It makes perfect sense. I can't thank you enough for all the insight and help you've given me.

First time I've heard of that Jesse, great idea and explanation. Thanks! And the paint looks excellent, nice job.

Thanks James. It was originally a 'mistake' that worked out well, so I've been fine tuning it since.

Got some solid time at the bench this weekend.

Here's where it sits right now. Don't mind the mix of glossy and dull areas. It'll get a coat of future next, and then weathering will continue.

Pat, Jerry,

Thanks for checking in guys.

BTW, the decals are a mix of Echelon, Decalomaniacs, and some hand painted.

First overall wash went on last night. And I've started painting some of the stowage. I still need to do the tracks. I've got the WE-210 Dragon DS tracks, but Panda just put out a set of 'worn' WE-210 tracks that look really good. ( http://www.track-link.com/reviews/3034 )

But alas, Panda doesn't have them on their website yet, and after emailing them, they said they cannot sell them until their website is updated. And of course the time frame is 'unknown', which is frustrating.

The AMPS International show is in 3 weeks from today, so time is getting kinda critical now. Not to mention that my original plan had the Grant on a base with a couple of figures, AND I wanted to put my Chaffee on a base, which really hasn't progressed as much as I would like.

Hey Jesse,

I'm feeling a little pressure with that 3 week deadline too! Trying to finish up my M32B1 to load on my dragon wagon and want to do a base as well. Plus a few other touch ups on some finished ones...it's gonna be close!

Look forward to seeing you at the show. The Grant looks spectacular!

Hey Terry,

I hear you. I got the kids down to bed right on time tonight, and spent the last 4 hours at the bench. Feels like I barely made a dent. Still lots more to do.
