With the canopies in place and masked off it's a little easier to see why the two seat version was nicknamed the Anteater. Luckily, most of the frames are straight lines. Even so, putting all the masking in place took most of an hour.
I also closed up the gaping hole in the wing where the landing light is supposed to go.

Once the glue dries I'll sand that all back to the shape of the leading edge.

, a shovel and crow bar:

and here's the boss, I still have to do the head:

A quick update on the Aerosan. I'm calling the vehicle done I'm still going to make a base for it and provide some figures. Then there's the Kettenkrad tow vehicle. To be honest, I'm not sure what I'll actually do for a base. I've been thinking about scaling it back some and keeping it very simple.

With the RLM 81 in place it begins to look more serious. I'll need to do some touching up here and there to correct things and make them look right. Then paint the olive drab patches where the German markings were covered over.

Still much more to do.

Basic painting is complete
When the USAAF commandeered the aircraft, they painted out the German national markings. Logic states that they'd use Olive Drab and Neutral Grey given that they wouldn't have had stocks of German paint on-hand. I simply painted over the markings on the decal sheet which will allow some of the marking to show through, and the shape of the decal film will get a better shape than simple masking would have achieved.

Now it's time for the decals. First the painted-out German markings. I discovered that the radio call signs were for the single-seater, so they got left off
On top of them go the USAAF stars'n bars
And on top of that, the RAF roundels
Models produced in Germany are not allowed to include the swastika, so there was no decal to paint over, I made a mask for the tail instead
US Olive Drab is almost, but not quite exactly the same shade as RLM 81. The painted out diamond is there, but not very visible unless you look for it
Construction is basically finished. I'll get a coat of matte finish overall once everything has finished curing
This scheme is definitely more colourful than the standard German markings.

Thanks for the compliments, everyone. I like the way the layered markings tell a story while it's just sitting there
