Since I will never get to build the halftimber house I always wanted to I figured I would start on a scale version of some. Here is where I am so far, just added the door and first window(clear part not dry yet)and have started casting all of the roof tiles. I always liked the flat ones when I lived in Germany. Don't be too hard on me my German friends.

If there is any interest I am happy to explain any build questions.

Very good work, Jerry.
This old building is very realistic. Have you ever seen this in reality ;-). ....it`s older than the USA ;-)
I'm curious about the ready-made building.
Best regards

Hi Jerry. Love the timber work. The distressed beams have caught the look perfectly. The stone foundation is another winner. Some of the filling material/plaster appears to placed in afterwards/seperating from the timbers ... this may be only shadows in the photos ... but if it was me, Id make sure this was filled in properly. Otherwise... top notch work.

Me too, the wooden beams look fantastic- I'd like to know a bit more about the construction. Are you building it for a dio?

Thanks Frank,
Yes,this gebaude is a little old for my country, although our town was started by Saxon/Moravians in 1741 and there are still some fachwerkhauser here. I did live in Germany for 6 years though and studied these buildings a lot.
This model is all from my imagination and scratchbuilt. It will be in a dio with buildings to the left and right and maybe also a Stadt tor?

Thanks Frank, for the kind words and for always looking in,
I was going for the old, poorly maintained look and made the gaps along the beams like that on purpose, even showing some of the woven twigs where the plaster has worn away. I hope to improve and now that I look at it I am not happy about the worn area being dead center of the middle panel. Figure the odds of wear and tear being dead center?

Thank you Sir!
The basic walls were made from artist matte board glued with white glue. The window holes were then cut out. The timbers are balsa wood and glued on,drying cracks were scored in with a #11 blade. The plaster is cheap plaster of paris put on with a kitchen knife and then formed and carved(foundation is done like this as well) I made a row of roof tiles from styrene and then a mold was made but I need a "production " mold as the process as it is will take till next summer to get enough tiles cast!! Door and window from styrene with white glue added to the clear plastic for the old glass wavey look. It will look much better when dry. Paint is Vallejo.
Lots of work to still do of course. I used to build HO scale buildings and this is my first in the manly scale of 1/35. Much more detail required here but also much more space!!
If you have more specific queries I am happy to oblige.

Ola Jerry

I somehow completely managed to miss this built. That is a very good piece of work. I have seen a lto of buildings like this in my journeys and holidays in the rest of Europe. Perfectly done. I like your beams. Not only are they distressed but they are not perfectly straight either. Just like on the real thing. Also great color choice. It is a big item in your dio but because of the light color it will not loom over the rest. Looking forward to the rest of the project.

Thanks Robert,
I also have seen a lot of buildings like this in Europe. They have been around for 7 or 8 hundred years. I wanted to make an old building with newer windows and doors ala 1944. The buildings stay the same but the stuff like that keeps getting upgrades.

This old house... looks beautiful!
The style using the wooden strains seems to be the (in german) "Fachwerk" and the stepped / tiered floors looks like an medieval house.
Beautiful build so far!

I´m interested, to see more!

greetings...

Fantastic. I have to completely agree with Frank. The foundation and exposed beams are amazing.

I hope to see it finished.

Merci and Danke Claude,
Thanks for looking in and the kind words. I am thinking about a store on the left and a small outbuilding(town stable) on the right and a town gate next to that. I am aiming for the setting to be 1946 or Wehrmacht '46.
Looking forward to you getting back to your epic build so I can learn some more.

Thank you Sir,
It will get done. I am taking more pics now that I have a lot more roof tiles cast. You can get the feel of the way it will look now.

Got enough tiles cast for one side of the roof. Still needs more weathering.

And here is how things are shaping up with the buildings' neihbors.

Slowly but surely.

I think I'm even more excited to see the house on the left once it's built! It's going to look fantastic once it's finished.
