Here is what I am building. The gun plus both crew kits. I have purchased a metal barrel from Germany along with some metal rounds and actual brass canisters.








I know I am pushing the limits but I really want t share this build!! Finished this will be about 40 inches long and the barrel will be about 1 and a half feet long.

I ordered my entry to this campaign today. I'm going to build Meng's AUF-1 in UN colors.

This I will be looking forward to: I built the Heller AUF-1 kit some time a go for the "Art of the Battlefield" Campaign. The amount of scratchbuilding required to get the kit up to speed is incredible. I much wonder about the Meng kit in this regard.

That is a very nice kit. I built it a while ago. Be carefull when dry fitting the metal barrel to the breach: It may not come off again, as in my case. The may be a little too perfect.

A start anyway, the instructions require reading several times to be sure you get the idea. They may be dated 1984 but the fit is very sharp or it is on mine. A good job, as this white metal and CA glue are very quick acting together and there is little little or no "bodging room"



Looks like it should go together reasonably smoothly which is good as I am hitting snags building it's towing unit.

A friend of mine has already built the Meng AUF 1 and i have this news to report,,the tracks suck ,,the pins used to lock the track blocks together are way to small and even after gluing and drying they fell apart in his hands when he tried to move them ,,he replaced them with ones from Fruilmodel and they fit perfectly.
The rest of the model went together with no problems at all he said ,,total pleasure to build and the turret interior looks very very good .

Here is my project for this campaign, I’m planning on building it as a M109A4 deployed to Bosnia in the mid 90’s. I also have a replacement barrel from Barrel depot and replacement tracks from Skybow. I’ve started working on the hull and have ran into a lot of fit issues with the multiple hull panels.

Ja,ja - that thing went right back into the box after starting basic construction. It still holds the "Disappointments of 2012" top spot on my list.
I doubt it'll ever come out of that shelf again, 'xept for sale, maybe...

Seeing the pictures, it doesn't promise much good.
Tell us, please, your experiences, since the announcements sounded rather promising.
A large gap between expectations and reality?

Well, it has a nice 1980's appeal.
The cast technology is way below par given the average kit hitting the market today. Plus you have wrapped parts (turret sides sunken in mostly), mediocre fit, and less then impressive small parts such as engineering tools. They did good on flash and pinmarks. Clearly the release is price oriented, aiming at a very attractive retail price, but unfortunately quality slapped right back into their snout.
Most new kits coming out are crying to get built. This one looks good at firts glance without creating ecitement. One second look and first steps of building, you get the feeling that "this is going to take somewhat longer than I had planned".
I had a magazin send me one for a build-up review, but when I showed them some dry fit shots, they let me off the hook and I am glad not haviong to build that thang.
That is my opinion and every else is welcome to his own, too. I am not all in the habbit of trashing kits, really. However, if you look the excitement the box top shot created and how many finished vehicles have been on show ever since the release, my guess is, that I am not quite alone with my assessment.

As a former user of the original, I hoped to find a nice model. Not afraid at all to improve parts, experienced since years with the use of etched stes, I thought to have found a good replica. You learned me better. Now, I keep some money in my pocket and do not get frustrated.............

If you want an A2 instead of the A6 then you should go for the AFV-Club. It is more expensive, but the money value is beyond doubt, IMHO.

I asked about that kit on here a while ago and was advised not to even think about it , glad I didn´t. But I did fall into the Tamiya trap, I bought their Paladin from 2012 for 48€, and then discovered that it´s the Italeri kit with an added Tam. sprue.
Oh well never mind.

Ok I am in I got the 1/35 Dragon Jagdtiger, I will probably build a late war, color scheme. But I haf to finish my first armor kit before I get to this bad boy.

Here’s my latest update. Believed or not I almost threw away this crappy kit twice since I bought back when it was at full price. Some how I’ve kept it around, maybe it’s would have been a waste of money if I did throw it in the trash.

Well the progress has been slow and painful

I’ve moved onto the turret and again ran into a lot of fit problems. I’ going to scratch build a dust cover for the gun mantle since this was the biggest headache and just want to hide some of the nasty gaps. Overall it looks like a M109, but that’s where it stops.
