Getting back to CCKW's, look at all these nice ones (even one hard cab) but not a one amoung them with a winch to help out the Auto Car layed over in the ditch!
I am sure I have seen other shots covering this same event including the wrecker that came to rescue the Auto Car.

I lov the hood mounted tool set and the horizontal fuel tank with dual spares. Again I continue to wonder why this is available only as a conversion and not a full plastic kit? Same for offering the Hard top cab in both long and SWB versions!

Hey Gents, this weekend I attended a major Regional Concours Auto Show here in Lexington, KY. It happened to coinside with a B-17 fly-in the same weekend.
I am rather proud of the 25 or so photographs I have posted so far with more to come.
I would like to share so follow the link:

Good meeting you! Ditto. - I never expected to meet fellow Armorama members in the flesh. This is going to be an added incentive in the future. Thanks

I am going to wade in with a few critical comments myself on the Tamiya Deuce:
- Why do the hood tie down locks appear on the box art but you have to buy the after market detail set to get them?
- Why don't the included gas cans have lids/caps but SOME of Tamiya's after market sets have them?
- Why is the chassis frame molded as one big part whereby making the chassis look like it is made of big massive bars of cheese instead of the correct "C" channel profile? (Italeri gets it right on their Deuce!)
- And again as always; Why has Tamiya not come out with a hard cab version and/or a short wheelbase version of this kit? (Once more Italeri has Tamiya beat on several of these issues!)
- Why not raised lettering on the Tamiya tires when the tires are so much better than everyone else's in every other way?
- Tamiya adds a steering gear box (That you can't see.) to the end of the steering column. (Kudos) But then fails to include the much more visible pitman arm and drag link that Italeri (and every other Tamiya kit) has included for years.
- I'm told the Tamiya cab floor is incorrect. I will have to do more research on this question but I would not think it a good idea to skimp in this area on such a visible, open cab vehicle.
- Why no cloth top for the load box? (Heller does it on their fairly nice offering.)
On the plus side:
- Tamiya has done a FANTASTIC job on their wood framed load box that beats everyone else hands down!
- The tires and rims on the Tamiya offering also beat out the competition, no contest!
- The Tamiya kit does come with a more or less complete engine! Nice!
- Seats, dash, steering wheel and windshield are excellent and certainly beat out everyone else!

Hi, All, Especially Mike! I guess the only way to build an accurate Jimmy is to buy both the ITALERI AND TAMIYA kits, plus a bus-load of aftermarket stuff.
New accurate DAAH's, in several different versions are, I think, too much to hope for from companies such as TAMIYA, DRAGON and TRUMPETER. I'm not going to hold my breath. Logically, HOBBY BOSS would be a contender, since they already do a DAAH with the Bofors AA gun...
Off topic: MIRROR took a big jump with their up-coming Diamond-Ts; I wish they would buy your MASTER of the Mack No6!!! That would make for the ULTIMATE 1/35 Mack!!!

Thanks Dude for all the compliments! I don't really expect Tamiya to change/retool any of their existing kits - that's just not their style. They might add some new figures that would be about it.
I just hope these pages, plus the 21,000+ views that they have gotten so far will inspire new hobby manufactures to look again at some of these interesting prototypes and also perhaps change, even ever so slightly, the habbits of the older modeling companies.
Again Tamiya it is a natural to start making an enclosed cab Deuce since you have 85%+ of the molds already! Hint, hint.
Again Dennis, thank you for your remarks about the Mack!

A NICE, FAIRLY SIMPLE SCRATCH BUILD PROJECT:
A side dump CCKW. The photo caption says this one was taken in Louisanna in 1944.
The side dump had locking hinge pins on both left and right so the operator could dump to either side. I don't think rear dump was an option here as there does not seem to be a rear tailgate.
The banner on the cab door says "CCKW ??? GMC 1944".

Somewhat unusual details on a CCKW shop truck with trailer:
Spare tire (no rear door) and welding bottles stowed at rear. Also assorted stowage cases and ladder on rear! Duck boards down centerline of roof and cargo tie-downs.
Pleae note underslung spare tire on bottom rear of Ben Hur generator trailer - very unusual!
I wish I could tell if they had any additional stowage racks on front above the cab or maybe a cabin heater up front!

AN "AIRBORNE" CCKW:
The chassis had what are called "fishplate" splicing plates in the frame just behind the cab. This allowed the vehicle to be "broken" in half in order to be air transported by two C-47's.
A temporary dolly wheel could be attached to the back of the forward half so that (with the front wheel drive engauged) that part of the truck could be driven onto the aircraft under its' own power.

One problem: that dolly wheel had what looks like the pull handle off a child's Radio Flyer wagon and someone had to walk behind the truck TO STEER!
