Can I just drop in a idea here, it was mentioned at one point about a campaign, well to open this out abit so its not around one single event, why not do a 'Heroes of Tragedy' sort of campaign? What happened in Boston was horrific and there has been many world events that have shocked many of us. As I was personally near the London 7/7 bombings I know I wouldn't mind doing a tasteful work of art in respect of that event, have no idea what I would do but its just a thought, now I hope this comment doesn't spark a whole new debate.....

Yes that would be an interesting campaign, and I see no real limits if folks are creative. The London bombing was horrible, but could show first responders in a very positive light. I imagine to go thru all of the terror attacks from Kenya, the USS Cole, 9/11, etc is a broad range of subjects. A possible "Let's roll!" cockpit charge dio with a serving cart from flight 93 is in my mind a different subject than the Lenco Bearcat or the SWAT sniper team on the roof shown this week. What sort of "rules" or guidelines might we suggest here to focus the subject and make it more meaningful? This should be a topic approached with great care and thoughtfulness. Personally I am not an "End of Days" fan as it always seemed somehow shallow to me to over embellish history. Just my own opinion...

Back to the Lenco Industries Bearcat truck...look at the doghouse on this one. I think the license plate implies Calif?

I still like the idea of a memorial. A separate campaign would be nice, though.
As for the guy in the suite. I noticed a pistol, on his right leg. I think he missed the memo about which uniform to wear.

Friends and bare acquaintances...
…there are so many things that move us
to be so creative with plastic, resin and PE…(oops – and paint ).
And …, yes..occasionally when I see a post of a swastika or of the current ‘bad guy’; I TOO have my own emotional strong responses to those buttons.
I have found that this – and other ‘Modeling’ sites to have less vitriol about the politics…. and more interest in the technicalities of the hardware.
As modelers; we sometime like to focus on the details and not the side. And through our understanding of the hardware …we can give ourselves limits to our emotions.
To be honest the last time I built a Tiger Tank…..I neither thought nor felt anything concerning things long past; nor halfway around the world; but I was thinking about the success of the feat of engineering, …that was still overcome.
I feel we have the right to our suspense of reality …because we are making models …representations of reality, that we hpoe others can see our creative execution.
.
I can easily tell when a poster is going on about the politics v.s. the hardware. and they usually don’t stop with just one post.
Sometimes I enjoy the conversational flow due to current events…(I have no Idea, as to N Korea’s hardware and yet I find comfort that we can converse about the hardware that is circuitous to the worlds current problems.)

If we do a group build, including the bearcat, I will get the custom pe kit. I can see it will be necessary.

This top view photo from Boston Globe is first I've seen from above of the truck's no slip surfaces. (Does anyone out there work with Lenco?)

Good one, Matt.
I found this collection of LENCO SWAT cars at http://policecarwebsite.net/policepackage/lenco200.html
Lots of flat surfaces make for easier scratch building. That MMK kit is over $100 USD! ...although the write-up says it has a full interior and fine detail.

I was thinking of converting an MRAP(I know it's not really an MRAP). While the interior may not be accurate, it can be seen through the windows. And, I'm not sure if the rear doors would be open. Like I said earlier, we need a plan first.

Question, the idea for the campaign that is being floated here,is it going to be strictly the events in Boston/Watertown or will it be open to any SWAT team? I live in LA and as with all major cities the local SWAT is in the news frequently in the case of Southern California, it was just this past February where we had a manhunt. Just asking for clarification, I will most likely participate regardless.

The one taking the lead on this needs to swing this over to the Campaign area and get the ball rolling!

2007 article on the LENCO truck by Kevin Carter includes "Its hybrid construction makes some parts seem wildly at odds. The dashboard has an AM/FM radio, compact disc player and retractable cupholders. A few feet beyond lies a pop-up hatch on top that would allow an officer to provide cover as SWAT members deploy from the vehicle, and gun ports for officers to shoot from the safety of the vehicle.
Chisholm and other officers like the working air conditioner. Waits in the Peacekeeper during long standoffs in full gear meant baking in their own sweat.
The BearCats' doors clang shut like a bank vault. That's the feeling Gold said you're supposed to have driving and serving inside it. It was built to withstand .223- and .308-caliber armor piercing rounds. "It's a lot more secure," Gold said.
BearCats weigh 8 tons, get 10 miles per gallon and have a top speed of about 85 mph, said Lenco Industries president Len Light."

I don't want to put a time limit, on this one. I am figuring that we should be able to complete it, in a year. I would also say that this should stick to the Waterton/Boston incident. But, that's JMHO.
Gillespie: Interesting.
From what I have found, I have not found photos of the specific vehicle used by the Boston SWAT team.

Sorry all, been busy at work today, ok the campaign idea was not for one single event, it was for any world wide tragedy. It has been mentioned this should be dealt with carefully and I am in agreement. I will start a thread now regarding this idea and drop in a link here, so not to flood this thread with off subject convo, thank you guys!

Not sure what the crying is about, but anyways, as has been said its not an MRAP class of vehicle. It is a purpose built SWAT truck built by Lenco in MA. The smaller ones are the Bearcat, and the larger MaxxPro looking ones re the Bear models. I seem to recall they are based on Ford F250 series truck chassis for the Bearcat. They are completely customizable by the user end a built to suite the individual agency purchasing it. They tend to run roughly around $300,000.00 for a moderately equipped vehicle. They are very common in SWAT units all over the country.
Steve, thanks for chiming in and answering the first postings question by S Gillespie which is valid one. I also was curious about that Vehicle and knew nothing about it. It is a sweet lookin Armored Truck and would like to see a kit of one.
Too bad about the so called "Political" tone which only began with the 3rd posting..........All i saw was a cool Armored Vehicle with some hero's on board.

A search of different state SWAT websites turns up some interesting photos. I am including here pix from the Ohio reference just because it shows the inside from the back. How do you visually tell the difference between a G4 version from a G3, etc? (just when I was starting to get the hang of Humvee variations I wander into this new topic!)
