Doesn't seem like too dificult of a conversion. Let me know if you want me to start a thread dedicated to the group build.

The Dept of Homeland Security website gives a little sales pitch for the Lenco Bearcat as "Lenco BearCat (Ballistic Engineered Armoured Response Counter Attack Truck) armoured vehicles are being produced by Lenco Armoured Vehicles. The BearCat range is specially designed for law enforcement, military and homeland security operations.
BearCat vehicles are widely used in Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), homeland security, counter-terrorism, force protection and military policing missions."
Still looking for on line repair and owners manuals for both the Bearcat and the F550 truck for more details.

I'm not really sure what you a talking about with converting an "MRAP", first of all MRAPs are a class of vehicles, not a single one, second they have absolutely nothing in common with the Lenco trucks, it's akin to saying you at going to convert a Sherman from a Panther kit because they both have tracks a turret and road wheels.

A search of different state SWAT websites turns up some interesting photos. I am including here pix from the Ohio reference just because it shows the inside from the back. How do you visually tell the difference between a G4 version from a G3, etc? (just when I was starting to get the hang of Humvee variations I wander into this new topic!)
As I said, there is no real "standard" configuration, when we were approving the budget to buy ours, you essentially pick off a menu and they build a truck to your standards. My advise to you all interested in Bearcats, find out if y have a local/county/regional SWAT team and call the non emergency number and ask if they have one. They are extremely common since DHS recommends them and DHS grants pay for them. Good chance there is at least one within 50-100 miles of you if not closer

I found this price list on the DHS website for the Berkley, CA buy...what a menu! Now I know where our taxes go...

The Bearcat and Bear chassis an front end closely resemble MRAPs.
That image will help a lot.

Not an RG-31, it's a failed Oshkosh MRAP candidate, DHS and FBI have a whole bunch of them spread out throughout the country. There was recently a big media issue about DHSs ammo budget and these MRAPs.

Thank you for the clarification Steve, I was confused. Guess the overall shape and the gun ports I just assumed the RG-31 somehow. Looks like a much heavier vehicle than the Lenco Bearcat.

Found a front view of the Boston Bearcat. Looks like the same crew of police as the previously posted rear view. Also is that an LRAD of some kind above the drivers window on the top corner? It has a slot in it?

Not really, its based off an F-550 truck...so no armoured underbelly, TAK-4 suspension or anything of the sort. It would probably be easier to take the vajra f-350 kit convert it to a 550, then build the armour added to it by Lenco with sheet styrene. http://www.armoredcars.com/cit-ford-f-550.php ....look familiar..

I wasn't speaking of the body, except for the bonnet and grill. The chasis looks like it could be a modified MRAP one. The most dificult part would be the wheels. I have no casting experience, to speak of. So, the wheels would be out for me. As for the for the front end, I am speaking of the type released by Kinetic and Panda. Unless I can find a Ford, in 1:35(doubtful), I will have to go with what is out there.

Someday I have to figure out how to get my Alps ribbon printer repaired! Putting this out for potential civilian figure applications like what Echelon decals #1, 2, and 3 for modern units.
Looks like in the photos the SWAT guys have a black and grey version?

I imagine they are black and grey to blend in with the uniform.

You do realize that the M-ATV MRAP is much larger than a F-550. Heres a size comparison of an HMMWV and a F-250. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gh9sMxVVVpw . And here's the size difference between the HMMWV and the M-ATV. http://htka.hu/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/M-ATV_and_HMMWV.jpg
The difference between the M-ATV and the F-550 which is what these Lenco vehicles are built on is substantial. It would probably be easier to extended any 1/35 pickup frame, add the bigger wheels used on certain vehicles and then use sheet styrene to build the armoured box. Easier then trying to turn something that isn't at all close what you want is going to prove to be difficult

Thank you for the link and insight. I'll do some more research, in an attempt to find the correct chasis. Any more suggestions are greatly appreciated.

While not a Boston and not a modern vehicle, I though I'd show the Maryland State Police vehicle I recently built using 2 Italeri M20 kits and sheet plastic. One of the photos I have of the vehicle is dated 1973. Armored police vehicles are a great idea for a build.

I am considering designing it in CAD and having Shapeways print the parts. Of course, if there is someone out there with more experience that would like to take over, I see no problem with that.

The Ford website goes up to F450 then offers pix of the Ford F-59 Commercial chassis. I assume this is what Lenco starts with to build up a Bearcat?

I saw this on Facebook the other day....helps to show how much bigger MRAPs are vs F-250 and larger Super Duty Trucks. I believe this is a F-250/350 with an aftermarket suspension. And its kinda funny too
