No worries Mike, you told him way better than I could. But then again,I never was one of those S-3 types! Hahahahah.

Here is a little spoiler. I am half way on working on the tree and couldn't resist.
Still working on getting the tree to look like the mist and fog have gotten it wet but not soaked. Not there yet.
J
Glad you couldn't
Yes, the tree will need more fine end twigs, as you cannot cover anything with foliage. What I see so far is looking quite fine already!!
Keep up the great work!!
Cheers m8!

That's awesome, sir. The tree and background color gives it an almost eerie feel. Looking forward to what's next!

Jerry, as much as I like the figures on this vignette, that tree is something else - brilliant, my friend!

Tried to get some better pics but they all suck!
As far as the fine twigs go,they are so fine they don't even show up on these pics Romain. They are as fine as human hair almost and I got them from the inside of a lamp cord.
forget the pics m8!! The tree is fantastic!
Great job my friend!!!! Biiiig congrats!!!
Cheers
Romain
P.S.: I know the type of fine wire...the kind that breaks in 2 when you only look at it in an unfriendly way!

Yep! Those are the ones. I consider using those wires as practice for when I build my next ship model.

I also managed to lighten up the green colors on the uniforms with a few glazes of olive yellow. I am happier with them but not overly so.

Great little scene Jerry. The tree is awesome, especiallly the broken off bits. Good idea to do this as the tree could over-power the scene. The figures poses work great.

I am still trying new stuff to make the broken limbs look better. There are supposed to be shot away by the 20mm flak shooting from the lower ground. So broken limbs work here and that is very cool, because I am too lazy to build a whole tree!
Thanks Frank, for looking in and commenting,

I notice the difference in the figures, looks good. I like the moss on the creepy tree as well, that's a nice touch.

Thanks Conor,
I will get some more pics of the figs later and you will be able to see the difference better. I think I need to take this outside as the natural light will give it a better feel. Need to wait for a cloudy day though,as that is what the weather was like during this op.
I was happy some one noticed the moss as I didn't think it would show up in the pics.
I see I need to fix the pine trees though,as they look drunk! Good thing they aren't attached.

Hi m8!
those fir trees are not easy to make, but yours are really nice and well worth the time investment IMHO.
I fully understand the impulse to stage a little scene and take a pic or 2! After all, we want to see what things will look like, don't we!
One thing I noticed (and so did you most probably) is that the M2 might do with a nice wash of oil paint. The vent holes are especially conspicuous here.
Keep up the great work....and post a few more pics..please!!
Cheers

Looking really good, Jerry!
Did you make the small fir trees with "air fern" for the branches? They also look very nice.
You have to give us some more pictures, mi amigo. I'd love to see some more of the figures and a few overall shots.
As always, I'm looking forward to the next installment!

Yes well, the M2. The gun has only been given a base coat of dark grey. When I worked in the arms room of my Infantry company the guns were pretty shiny from being cleaned all the time. The exceptions were brand new guns and they were a flat dark grey. I figured this one would be fairly new and when I get to work on painting and weathering it I hope to get some more definition. I just found a better rear sight for it as well. So it's still very much a WIP,

The pines were made with a dowel and asparagus fern. I was kind of leery about using the ferns as Robert Blokker used some for a very nice tree and the ferns dried up and faded badly in about 3 months. Jury is out.
Thanks for the kind words buddy,

Spent yesterday making and painting some odds and ends. I made two late war e tools, yet to be painted. I modified some ammo cans of the old type. The resin ones came from my buddy Wally, who lurks here once in a while. The open ones came from a nice kit he gave me from AFV club. They are plastic but I had to make the latches in wire and alum sheet. I modified one of the resin cans by cutting off the carry handle on top and making it "partly open",once again with wire and alum sheet.
I know guys liked to use empty ammo cans for carrying maint. stuff and so I used one of the great resin ones from Wally and painted the cloth items as if they were cleaning rags and there is a gift on top of them for my buddy Mike, a set of headspace and timing gauges!

Here we see more items found with an active MG position. The very important spare barrel, with case and the asbestos glove and lube oil can next to it.
Romain, you can see here the gun looks a bit different? I added a new rear site from the AFV kit and of course, paint. Nice pile of spent shells and links and what GI in the field wouldn't want a shelter half to keep the mud off him?
Gettin there

Awesome! I got an old ammo can in my room that looks just like it. Only, much much much much smaller. Love the handles on them, they look perfect & the whole gun emplacement looks great.

Oh, very cool, Jerry!
The details make all the difference and the RIGHT details, even more so. Once again, your 1/1 scale experience speaks the truth in 1/35 scale!
So, I guess no more jokes about "operator headspace and timing"?
Maybe we can still send someone down to supply for a box of grid squares...
