Nice paint job . No brush marks visible . Ran across aber 35a38 it's common elements for a panzer IV e turret in PE , will save a lot of scratch building for the turret . At six bucks was definitely worth the price .
Thanks, Vallejos go on real nice and settle down beautifully. If you don't slap it on, it's hard to go wrong with it. I have that Aber set too, got 2 more IVs and a couple of IIIs in the stash so it'll get used at some point. When the turret finally gets done, I'll see what can actually be seen and go from there for the next one.

I think this was the only common set, Aber has all sorts of vehicle specific sets and some great accessories stuff too

Going cross-eyed detail painting and trying not to lose itty-bitty parts for the new project. No spoilers, but I will say I'm seriously impressed with the level of detail and fit. Hopefully all will be done next week so I can get back to this puppy.

Thx

The only black stuff I've been using is Vallejo Panzer Grey primer. I was using that in places to check seams and so on and now I've got the hull coated with it as well if that's what you meant?

Some angle stock like this

I just want to correct the short little piece where the boarding ladder goes . I'm going to try my best to save that piece but in case I can't it's good to have something to replace it with . Thanks nice to have the catalog also .

I should be starting up again this week. My latest review build took a lot longer than anticipated, I'll post a link when it's up.

Thanks! It'll be good to get going on it again. One of the pluses of doing the review build was a lot of detail painting practice.

Excellent work!!!
You should try rubber molding for those ammo bags, then make duplicates with 2 part liquid plastic.

I was thinking of doing something like that. Once I get this all done up and see how much detail can actually be seen, I'll make a couple more. I also made some quick molds of the ammo bags from the Bronco kit I just built, they're real nice but they look a wee bit tall.

Managed a brief session today, spent most of the time seeing where I was. Added some drain holes to the cupola with the smallest bit I had (#80 if you're curious). I didn't actually drill through, trying to get the exit holes lined up would not have worked. So, drill in from the top with as shallow an angle as you can, mark the positions on the outside face, use the tip of a knife to centre the hole and drill in a little with a slightly upward angle. Hope that makes sense. I also got the turret bin glued on. Tacked on with the stub in the back and lined up by eye, then added the strips. I shaved down the bolts on the lifting ring base a bit. You can see in reference shots that the strip isn't flush, the lifting ring prevents that. Just need to add a few bolts and do some scraping where I used a bit too much glue. The strips are the kit parts, thinned down. I couldn't be bothered trying to mess around with bending pe.
That's it for today, hopefully another update tomorrow.

The lifting hook , should that not be on top of the straps for the stowage bin ? It looks like that in the pictures of the panzer E's that i ran across on the Internet . I shaved off the lifting hooks from the turret and like you did thinned down the straps and glued the hooks on straps .

I don't think so. As I understand it, the hook is welded to the small plate that gets bolted to the turret, so the bolts are replaced somehow and go through the strap.
I dug around and found a shot that should be clear:

My impression of the lifting hooks was that they were bolted on to the turret . I was thinking it would make sense to put the plate under the hooks because it would be flat and fit better . I did more search and just could not come up with any pictures clear enough to blow up and see the detail . I'll keep looking. There's got to be one out there . The plastic straps provided by dragon gives you the impression you lose the hook and shave off the details to fit . In a way it's mounting just does not seem to make sense .

It does make sense, just not intuitive sense. In this photo you can see the hook assembly. I imagine the way it was made was a plate with a slot cut out, the hook fits in the slot and then is welded to the plate which is bolted to the hull. Italeri actually produced their kit this way if memory serves.
http://www.worldwarphotos.info/wp-content/gallery/germany/tanks/panzer4/PzKpfw_IV_turret.jpgIf you look at the photo in the previous post, you can see a shadow under the strip, which means it is not flush against the turret. Therefore, the strip is attached to the hook/plate assembly. There is plenty of room for it to slide in there. From a logical point of view, there would either be a spacer, or the shaved down remains of the original bolts on which the strip sits (flush with the hook bump)and new bolts on top of that. I admit it would sound better to have the hook assembly completely on top, but I don't know at what point the bin is brought into the production chain. So if the bins come after the turret is complete, the strip would go on top of the assembly, rather than under it. You have to remember that these bins were field mods first and slowly brought into standard production and the mounting seems to have changed from the F model on.
