Nice one Dave was thinking of that myself.

Thanks Rod. This sort of fictitious hybrid seemed to me to be very much in the declared spirit of the campaign (it's also the tank that I've played the most and with which I have my best victory percentage). I've got the turret ordered, and will grab the base kit at the start of September. I will do my best to make the tool configuration and paint scheme and weathering match the screen shot of my in-game tank.

If this one goes smoothly, I may still build the T18 Howitzer Motor Carriage. In fact, I put one back in my WoT garage, just in case...

Ok. Well I've officially decided to build the Tamiya Easy Eight. I first have to finish the M46 I'm building.

Does anyone make a kit of the T18? I hated that one when I had in the game couldn't wait to sell it.

I have a T49 and I like playing it, that also might be an intersting conversion guess I would start with a chaffee as the base kit.

I picked the type 97 Te-Ke just because it would be a (hopefully quick) out of the box build and fairly cheap.

I like what I am seeing in this campaigns for builds so far even the small scale stuff .

I also like that it has to be one we play in the game adds a little incentive I think.

Still waiting for the Type 97 to arrive should not be long now.

Can't wait to see more guys.

Commander Models makes a conversion for the Academy Stuart/Honey. The conversion sells for about $40 and the base kit can be picked-up for about $20.

See: http://ironshipwrights.com/armor/T18.html

I, too, hate the T18 (and all the self-propelled guns in the game) - I really want a turret with fairly rapid traverse (I would much rather manuever/prowl with a medium tank than sit in ambush with an SPG).

I have been starting to play the T29 (heavy) more of late and enjoy the added firepower, but I still miss the mobility of a medium (though trying to learn to play the T20 is just killing me - it probably didn't help that I started with a 50% trained crew).

Still, I may build the T18 after finishing the Sherman simply because I've gotten pretty interested in US AFV design history (working my way through my fourth volume of Hunnicutt now) and an experiemental tank AFV fits with the stated parameters of the campaign.

Actually there would t be any conversions for the T49. I know, it sucks. I really want one too. But the T49 was an experimental vehicle on its own chassis with, what was it, Christie suspension? The tank would have to be completely scratch built aside from possibly the suspension and the gun. I was, and still am, thinking about it when I get better and when I know I'd be able to pull off a decent looking model. Also, in the game, the tank isn't completely correct. The top gun and turret shouldn't be together. The stock turret and 75 gun are the proper combination. That version is the T67. The top turret and stock gun is the T49.

Kinda what I thought, the running gear and tracks I think you could get away with from the chaffee look pretty close maybe the lower hull as well, but the rest would have to scratch, the 3inch gun I think RB makes a replacement for the M10. Would be kinda fun to attempt I think.

Many of the vehicles in WOT are not correct but that is the fun with this group build in part hope to see some interesting builds.

Interesting, but I think I'll pass this time around as I don't want to take on a T18 in the game again.

I loved my T29 but it plays much better with a fully upgraded suspension and the top engine, I would research those before the top gun. You might enjoy it a bit more, much better than the T6 I think.

Rod:

I'm at the decision point right now... I've fully upgraded the T29 suspension and am debating whether I would be better served by upgrading the engine (not all that many additional horsepower) or stepping up to the 105mm gun. The reload times go waaaay up from the times for 90mm, so though I want the additional damage/penetration I'm not sure that I might not be better served with the engine upgrades (I already mentioned that I tend to play every tank like a medium).

I actually took the Sherman Jumbo route to the T29, so never played the M6 (started the T29 with the 76mm gun and 50% crew - talk about being overmatched). I still like my T1, though I use it as a sniper and not a true heavy (it works quite well in this role).

Ouch, that must have been a grind and a half from the Jumbo. I have not played the M4A3E8 or the Jumbo. I prefer either light or heavy depending on my mood. Think that is why I like the T49 it plays more like a scout (with a bit of a punch) than a TD. I have not got a Hellcat yet, it looks like the same kind of play style as the T49 but with more hitting power. I have been the victim of many, many Hellcats

Many sould strange but for heavies I really liked the ARL 44 once it was fully upgarded with the top 90mm and engine.

The M4A3E8 plays pretty well. The Jumbo was tough. As tier 6, you often are playing against tier 6,7,8 heavies and with the low velocity 105 on the Jumbo you all too often hear: "We didn't even scratch them." Just as in "real life," the Jumbo is not good at fighting other tanks (though I keep it in my garage and still play it a couple of battles each week).

I don't love the Hellcat. I've got mine maxed out and the 3" gun has pretty good hitting power. However turret traverse and reload times are not good. Additionally, it doesn't have near the mobility of the real thing. I believe that the Hellcat could hit speeds approaching 50mph on roads, while in the game you can barely outrun a Sherman. So, you've got the thin armor without the mobility that you really need to to shoot & scoot. That being said, it is another that I keep in the garage and play several times each week.

You guys who play the light tanks amaze me (when they're played well). I just don't have the ability to play light tanks, and probably haven't had one in the garage since tier 2. Maybe I will go back at some point and try to work my way up the light tank tech tree; and I've never played arty, maybe need to try this as well (good thing that I don't care about my stats all that much ).

My stats aren't great either but what has worked well for me playing scouts is to scout not engage, spot and get the heck out of dodge, wait tell the other side is all engaged and go hunt arty. Very rarely do I even fire my gun unless it's at the other sides arty.

Dave, the reload of the T29 is negligible if you can hull down. With a top crew and that gun layer thing, the time can be cut pretty well. And that grind does suck. I ground both the E2 and the M6 so I'd get there the Easy way with a 90mm.

Rod, when you get the Hellcat do NOT play like a light unless you're top tank in the game. The armor is paper. All you do with it is sit, shoot and scoot. The Hellcat is not a very good CQB tank but for sniping it can't really be beat in its tier. The camouflage is great, visibilty with a net and 100% percent crew with all 100% camo skill is extremely low.

And Dave, again, the turret rotation and reload are essentially what you'd find on any turreted tank destroyer in the game. Very slow reload and Traverse times. And the turn times and acceleration have been reduced in the last update. But overall it is a pretty good tank for an American tank in the game. Also the Hellcat could do 50 on road. Off road the actual speed was severely reduced.

After succumbing to two Tigers (while inflicting some pretty good damage on both), I decided to grab the 105mm and put off the engine research. Quite happy with this, as my number of kills and win percentage have both risen noticably. I'm starting to like the T29 - hoping that we'll see a kit of this tank soon.

Oh man the T29 is a beast, loved mine. Hull down or if you can get behind cover with only your turret showing, you'll give anyone a hard time. The T49 was great too, I was rather aggressive with it. You gotta use your speed, my best game in the T49 was 9 kills and hit 11 enemy tanks.

Light tanks are fun, especially at higher tiers when you can really shine. At lower tier your just to fragile and many carry howitzers so your a one shot kill. Love my WZ's. The 85's it carries can really hurt even high tier tanks and you can easily circle the bigger boys close up. I've gotten hooked on the AMX-13.

As for SPG's...... Let's just say you don't want me firing on you. And hey, they nerfe it bad. Back in the day, I was getting 5-6 kills average.

I'm looking forward to making a small video when I finish my build. Was testing out a video capture program and made this little test video for the interested:

With heavies ALWAYS go for the bigger gun first. Speed is not that important -and the increased damage will earn you xp for the engine faster, anyhow.

Ah, the cancer that is the T18 I can't even imagine how many new players could have turned away from the game because of seal clubbers driving T18s... (I admit, myself included.)

Anyhow, ModellTrans seems to have been made one in 1/72. I'm trying to buy one for reviewing.

Possibly. That would a tiny model though. I also made a second account. Just having fun playing the low tier tanks and going down the British tank route.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this one goes - I've heard great things about Fine Molds kits, but have never seen one built. Additionally, having served as a Marine grunt, I have a pretty keen interest in PTO subjects.

Good luck on this one.

The Dragon kit and Tank Workshop turret have arrived:

I may wait a bit to start as I've got several things in progress right now. In particular, I want to get a bit more done on my Cyber-Hobby M4A3 HVSS POA-CWS-H5 (I'm really enjoying that one, except maybe the suspension can get a bit tedious).

I realize also that the Dragon T28 kit that I've got could be a second build for this campaign, if I can hurry and get it added to my garage.
