I got to get some work done on this. Hard nut to crack but I am fired up now. I turned up his collar more on the right side, added length to the coat, started to add the bulge in the pocket for the ammo mags, started reworking the right arm and hand and added length to his trousers, all to better conform to the pic. The pic shows Kinney before he perks up so he has his head down there.

Yeah Jerry, it's coming around! The longer trousers legs are top!!

Am I mistaken, or could the coat do with a little more length??? Not much, just a tad!

Or is it the huge pocket that creates this impression!??

I'm eager to see your next posting m8!!

Thanks for letting us watch!!

Cheers

You are right, using the hand as a reference point, the coat should be a tad longer. I am going to let it go as I am more concerned with some of the shapes and the line of the closing flap. It may just be the angle the pic was taken but I think I need to alter a few things as I refine the shapes.
All in all, lot's easier with the screen capture to look at for a ref.

Kinney carried a M1928A1 not M1A1 Thompson in the movie. By the way simply awesome capturing the look.

Thanks for the words of encouragement buddy. What are the different characteristics of the two SMG's?

Well the 1928A1 has a Cutts compensator on the end.

Good that you posted this. I got to the Hobby shop last night and picked up a new Dragon set that had some AMERICAN GEN2 weapons and the Thompson was like this one. Maybe I can pry the old one off of Kinney without doing any damage.
Nice to see people paying attention here. And also nice that Dragon is finally paying attention to American stuff for a change. I see they are going to re-release the 101st in the Ardennes set which I think was one of the top GI figure sets they have made so far.

With the improvements you are making on the figure, he is going to turn out to be an outstanding figure. Keep up the great work. I can't wait to see him completed and painted up.

Al and Jim,
Thanks for looking in again. I did get more work done but the Mothers' Day thing kept me from getting the progress pics. No complaints here, just the reasons!

Hi Jerry - great build as always. Very interesting to see your process unfold - and the gradual refinement and transformation of the figure to exactly what you want. You are sure able to pick up subtlety with that putty - and nothing looks like a mistake - that is, you maintain control from the biggest moves to the minor details - wow! Yes, I'm taking notes and will keep following -

Cheers

Oh yes, keep watching him Nick! He can teach you a lot about figures and how to convert/superdetail them!

Thanks for the positive comments my fellow sojourners.
I can see that I yet again, molded his right hand in the wrong position. It should be angled more to the left.
I am using another set of pics to base this on as his left leg is in front on those pics so the pic I showed here is hard to judge from.
Anyway,in the short time I get lately to work on this I am still making SOME progress.

Yep. He is getting closer to the photo all the time, and is looking sweet. I agree with Romain about being able to learn from your sculpting. I will have to try it sometime. Most of my figures I use I fit to their surroundings and adjust the terrain or find another spot for the figure. You are a master at adjusting your figures to their surroundings, which is a much harder process in my opinion.

Looking forward to the next edition of Kinney in progress.

Thanks for posting.

Thanks Dave!!
You should try it. Just jump in and go for it and you will be fine. With the amount of skill that you have demonstrated already with your build you should have no problems.
Thanks for the support though.

Been skimming through the movie now and then, good stuff. Now that I've seen the character the face you chose seems perfect. I really like how you captured the movement of the guy, subtle yet effective and conveys movement perfectly.

Jerry,

Stunning extraordinary work!

Yes, Battleground is one of my favorite movies of all time. The ambush in the fog (and how it came about) - fantastic scene.

Jerry, thanks for this model and the memories!

Hope some people got to watch this great movie thanks to the tip!!!
Smallish update. Still adding bits and bobs of putty to the gloves on both hands and various folds and dents.
The biggest move was trying out my new purchase of Lifecolors paint. I bought the American WWII uniform set as well as the equipment set. So far I am impressed with the fidelity to the original uniforms and gear. I have a very thin coat on all surfaces except the white putty of course.

What say ye? Good colors? I really like the OD green on the helmet and pants.

You've gone and convinced me to go for Life Colors. They've done a great job here. What did you do for the skin tone? Looks like a great base color.

Excellent, sir.

@Conor-Yes,I like the new paints a lot so far. I will see how they react with glazing. The base color for flesh is from their flesh painting set as well. Haven't had the chance to try the other colors in the set.
They are all pre-mixed and if I can get them to work I will be happy as I am getting very lazy in my old age.
@Al- Thanks for checking in buddy. Good work on WWI !!

I am about doing all that I will on the folds and bumps. At some point I just say enough is enough!!!
I have r made the right arm and glove for the umpteenth time as well and put all of the base coats on. So these are the basic colors, all Lifecolors.
The building is done except for the web gear, helmet strap, smg sling and safety pin Kinney used to hold his ensamble together!

Jerry-- great job! May I ask if you can replicate the large safety pin that Kinney used to secure the upper portion of the Mackinaw?
Well done

Hi Jerry,

say, have you found any more "precise" info about that Mackinaw! Or was the item "less regulation"??

His hand looks just fine now!! The little angle is a great improvement!!

And I love that basic skin colour. It might perhaps be a little too "healthy" for Kinney in this setting , but it is nice!!!

Well done Sir!!

Cheers
