Sorry to hear about the extended stay buddy, I'm sure everyone sends their well-wishes your way. And don't sweat not being able to reply regularly, the building anticipation will pay off in due time

Hey Romain, hope the health issues clear up fast. Doctor visits are a drag and hospital visit/stays really suck the energy right out of you, been there and still doing it. Just get well, most important issues first. The dio is superb craftmanship and you guys should be happy and proud of it, and it isn't even done yet. That should just about tell you how good it is. bob d.

Hi guys,
today they let me out for a couple of hours, so I take the opportunity first to thank you for the kind support!! I never expected this to gain such momentum truly!
I want you to know how much I appreciate it!!
Tomorrow. I'll get my chemo (if all goes well, knock on wood!, and then I finally can come back to my dio!!!
It is extremely frustrating to idle around in the M.A.S.H. and at the same time know that time is running out until the competition Leo wants to enter the dio!
And while I am here, I might as well post some more pics, so to speak as a "reward! for your patience!
So here we go:
And another "field conversion"....just a blanket thrown over the shoulders and a cigarettte to calm the nervs
And one showing the mass of spent cases and magazines after an "orgy" of covering fire:
A "dry-fitting" for the Mutt and "crew" including yet more conversions
The wounded and the weary being tended by a corpsman
And a final shot "down the lane" showing what else is in the pipeline:
Hope you like!I'll be "back on-line" on Tuesday evening!
Cheers

Lots and lots of very cool stuff to look at. I really think you can tell the difference when a dio is made by a military guy as the little things they add make so much sense.
I am stoked by the copious amount of expended ammo and the medics/resupply going on. Those useless "Mules" in use!! LOL I see one has been turned over by a mortar strike or was it blown up by its' crew after they had enough?
Seriously nice stuff my friend. I have to ask about the e-tool case on the back of one guy though. Did they have those plastic carriers back then? I thought the canvas e-tool carrier and tool was still in use?
Excellent work bubba. I pray your next stint with the bonesaws goes well!!

Romain and Leo ... what a team!
This just keeps getting better and better! There is so much attention to detail!!! I could make a list of things I like about this masterpiece but it would take up too much space on your thread!
Wishing you well!

Thanks a bunch bro!! Means a lot to me as you know!! To get praise from an expert like you...!!!!
Regarding the Intrenching tool (sic!) I had the same doubts as you, but I got my info from serious sources like this one you surely know well:
http://olive-drab.com/od_soldiers_gear_alice.php
And yes, you guessed right: the mule should have been turned over by a mortar hit!
Cheers m8!

Leo is quite a champ no doubt!!! The M151 A1 is NOT the new Tamiya kit....which came out after Leo had completed the conversion, it is the old kit with lots of Leo-work in it!!
The same goes for the trailer....it was not bad, but it was wrong in details! So, Leo fixed that!!
Thanks for the good wishes m8!!

Hi Romain,
Glad to see you posting again - hope you're about wrapped up with this MASH round! I've got to say, I agree with Tom, seems unlikely to me that you'll hang up the paint brush, hobby knife and great ideas any time too soon! I have an even stronger feeling that you won't "retire" your "eagle-model-building-eye" either!! Which is certainly good for us!!
Take care, Romain!
Cheers

Hello Romain,
I hope your chemo goes well and you can be feeling better and back to modeling soon.
This diorama that you and Leo are creating gets better with each picture I see. I am happy to see someone take into account all of the shell casing that are present after intense fighting and that adds to the realism. The poses are great and one can really sense the action going on. The only thing I saw on these last photos is what Jerry mentioned about the entrenching tool carrier on the guy near the M151. The plastic entrenching tool carriers did not come out until ALICE gear came into effect around the 1974-1975 time frame. If it is not too late for you to pop it off of the figure, I would suggest doing so before you and Leo enter this into the show he is wanting to get it finished for. If needed, I have a bunch of excess gear I could send you to replace the modern pieces that are intermixed with the period correct gear.
As a modeler of primarily Vietnam subjects, I am watching this build closely since it is looking so good not to mention that it is so large. It is definately something you should be proud of. Great work!
Cheers,
James

Hi James,
I was under the (apparently false) impression they had been introduced with the M1967 Individual Load-Carrying Equipment......and wanted to show this young officer with brand new gear.........but it struck me too, when I saw this pic again (after quite some time).......and I will get rid of the d..n thing!
We don't want to spoil anything now, do we! :-):-)
I count on you to be my eagle-eye .....and together we'll get rid of most mistakes! :-):-)
Thanks for your support!!!!
Cheers

Masterful work, Romain. Each little vignette among the bigger picture really builds this thing up into one to remember. Love the vast expenditure of ammunition, don't see that enough in dioramas! Hard to pick out just one thing though, each scene is great.
Looking forward to more!

You mean to say I was correct about the e-tool? Man...that doesn't happen often when you live with two women in the house!! Heheheh.
When I was stationed in Germany the first time in '77 we were still issued the canvas e-tool cover and wooden handled e-tools! Pluswe had the canvas ammo pouches and canteen covers and some of the older guys still had the h-straps instead of the y straps!

That was exactly the idea I had....and him coming fresh to the front line....I wanted him to have the "most recent additions in equipment"........while other guys battling along are still using WWII stuff like the multiple grenade pouch and duckhunter camo covers and even jackets. I know from experience how "impossible" it is to get even one single company with identical gear!!!!
The Corps is famous for not dumping anything that could still be used...down to rations probably dating back to the War of Independence

Hi Frederick,
yes thanks, much better indeed! Glad you like the dio m8!!
There were times when I had my doubts about the "villa".....maybe too big, too dominating...and useless too, as the main axis of advance has long bypassed the property!
Well, probably too late by now, isn't it!!
Cheers
