I for one, don't have enough time left in life to do what I want to do let alone model. So by age and default, and maybe some common curtosie, I wont get into polotics or religion here. Just modeling. Which by the way, is what this site is all about.

I couldn't agree more, Sven.
For some people, complaining about everything and anything and making every post into their own political agenda is everything in their life.
I usually ignore these posts and I completely agree with you.
I think ignoring these "experts" and their posts will silence them.

People get passionate about stuff. It's part and parcel of any gathering of people anywhere and everywhere. I'm a bit more philosophical in accepting people as they are and just tuning out the rants.

And there are some who love to pick at every little negative thing there is. Everything has its place and this is not the place for ramblings and rumblings about politics or religion.

Ignore the "nattering nabobs of negativity" and get back to plastic, resin. metal, and whatever other medium you build models in.

Thanks for starting this thread Sven, these things need to be said.

It's good therapy for PTST to build models and it's even better if you can communicate and not fight with others out there .

Interesting for me to find this thread on Armorama of all places. Personally, I find that of all the modelling websites I visit, this is - by far - the most modelling focussed.

There is no "general discussion" sub-forum, like most websites. These tend to be the repository of all the assorted moans and groans of the site membership. Those general discussion forums are usually the most active on modelling websites, which says a lot.
There are no prominent posters who do nothing but grind axes against companies they have a personal agenda with
There isn't the nationalistic willy waving you see on most websites.
Each new Trumperboss announcement isn't greeted with a 3 page flaming of all the innacuries based upon nothing more than a small box top painting and the the posters agendas.

I'm not aware of the threads mentioned in the OP, as I am not a consistent poster on here, but perhaps its because Armorama is normally so free of such things, that it stands out from the crowd?

Hi Neil,

Sadly, it also happens here on Armorama, and there seems to have been more of it lately, which was why I wanted to post my thoughts.

In general, though, Armorama is a very friendly place to visit, so I hope my post is not off-putting in any way.

Cheers,
Sven

This is the impression I got when first stumbling upon the site and forum which became the reason for me to join. No crap just having fun at modeling and seeing a lot of inspirational projects.

G'day fellas

Interesting to note, isn't it, that most, if not all, of the people who seem to be able to turn innocent remarks into pages of fighting haven't commented on this post, with which, by the way, I agree completely?

Regards

I am fairly new to this website but I have to say there is far less purse-swinging than on some (non-modeling) websites I frequent.I often come to ask a question only to find that someone else has asked and gotten lots of helpful answers and encouragement. Maybe I'm not reading the right posts.

I really like what you wrote, and I agree emphatically.

However, as someone who sees this as an art and tends to prefer modulation and weathering (not accuracy), I have gotten a lot of flak in the past for simply doing what I enjoy. I still participate in the boards here, but I haven't shared any of my work in a long time.

John,
Post away. But the main point of the topic here is political/religious/etc bashing. I think that anyone has to be able to have a bit of a thick skin to post their work. And if you consider yourself an artist, you should be used to a little criticism here and there.

It is so great that this thread continues to be filled with great comments and feedback. I think this proves my point over and over again: that most of us are here to enjoy and share our hobby in a positive way. :-)

Constructive criticism is fine...but bashing goes beyond that. Bashing of any kind is unwarranted.

I agree with you John- I hate to hear that someone is hesitant about posting their work. I, and I'm sure a great majority of people on this website, want you to share your work with us and feel confident in doing so- that is what this website is for- to share our hobby with others so please do share your work with us.

At what point does moaning about moaners become just as distracting as moaning about models? Seems moaning about moaning has become a modelling hobby in itself

So I've started a new one. Moaning about moaning about modelling moaners

Stick that in your pipe and smoke it!

I'm one who likes to constructively give out criticism when judging as not to 'hurt' anyone's feelings. When that conversation begins it's only purpose is handing out a suggestion/advice/comments/congratulations/pointers. It's being diplomatic and having mannerism when conveying a message to the modeler I judge. I also receive the same level of critique even today. I'm a better person for it. This site displays all of these same qualities...to the good.

I wasn't born an expert modeler, hence, suggestions/advice/comments were forthcoming and most of all: welcomed. It helped improve my skills and knowledge about modeling in general and more specifically, armor.

Some of the comments read here, and other blogs about modeling, can be horrid if not inappropriate. I also participate in World of Tanks from time to time, and the negative comments there are a disease to say the least.

My point...I'm thick skinned enough to take it, but rarely dish it our unless deserved...and then its done quietly...discretely, by private message...never in the 'open'. If there is a problem with another person here, or anywhere else for that matter, take it to the 'back room', or, take it 'outside'. Have enough humanity, and integrity, to leave the rest of us out of the line of fire with negative comments.

This is a wonderful site for us armor guys...I want nothing more to see it remain that way!

My two cents!

AMEN Sven.
I used to get caught up in all of the political BS. Now when I find myself responding to something I perceive as an inflammatory thread I just sit back, take a breath, and delete my response. It takes a lot for me not to add my 2 cents as I am very opinionated (just ask my poor wife), but I feel better afterward, not having contributed to the chaos.

We are all one big community here and there are not a lot of people who share our love of modelling ....Politics has no place on this site. Thanks for addressing the "elephant in the room" Sven.

Hi Chris,

If this is directed at me, then I am more than willing to respect your input, even though I am inclined to disagree that I am moaning (but perhaps it is perceived as such, in which case my bad for not expressing myself in the way I had hoped).

Not everyone has to agree with what I have written in my initial post, and are free to courteously comment on it - which is kind of the point of my post in the first place (that, and the primary message that politics have no place in a modelling forum) :-)

So many good posts in this thread, very enjoyable read! Thanks again everyone for contributing.
