At what point does moaning about moaners become just as distracting as moaning about models? Seems moaning about moaning has become a modelling hobby in itself
So I've started a new one. Moaning about moaning about modelling moaners
Stick that in your pipe and smoke it!
Hi Chris,
If this is directed at me, then I am more than willing to respect your input, even though I am inclined to disagree that I am moaning (but perhaps it is perceived as such, in which case my bad for not expressing myself in the way I had hoped).
Not everyone has to agree with what I have written in my initial post, and are free to courteously comment on it - which is kind of the point of my post in the first place (that, and the primary message that politics have no place in a modelling forum) :-)
So many good posts in this thread, very enjoyable read! Thanks again everyone for contributing.
No it wasn't directed at you Sven, it was just tongue in cheek

You know my first sergeant used to say that it's your right to cry, b***h, moan and complain as much as you want.
But that doesn't mean I have to listen to it. So when the bashing starts just skim over that until there's a post about modeling once again.
One of the things that used to be part of web forum etiquette was not hi-jacking a thread with rants. The thread is about models, political rants are off-topic and hi-jacking the thread. So the hi-jacker is being rude. What is one of the best things to do with rude people (if you can't give them an evil glare) is to ignore them. They're not there, they never said anything and let's continue our conversation.

Haha, I get it now. Sorry for being slow on the uptake on that one, Chris. :-)
Regarding some of the other posts in this thread, it is difficult to just read all the great comments without adding a few words.
I particular like the idea of people "taking it outside" if their blood pressure is starting to increase, I also heartily agree that hijacking a thread is most disrespectful to the original poster and it is a matter of common courtesy not to do it.
Ignoring the ones who are causing a fuss is a good idea, but not always easy.
I try to do this, but if it is a thread I am interested in and really want to read the value-add inputs despite the thread having spiraled into something unpleasant, it is almost a forced exercise to wallow through all the flame-posts to get to the root of the thread. However, not commenting and not acknowledging these posts, and hence not contributing to the fire is of course much easier :-)

They teach classes in dealing with difficult people.
In them they give you tactics to use to defuse the situation and move on.
Don't get drawn in to their passion and retain a cool head. Acknowledge their concern and their emotions and just say it's not pertinent to the discussion at hand.
Be courteous no matter how nasty they get. "I see this means a lot to you and we discuss it at length somewhere else, but not here. It is not an appropriate part of this discussion."
It is amazing how this can disarm the most passionate person and even stop fights.
And before everyone jumps on and says it doesn't work let me just say how many times have you truly done it and remained calm, cool, collected? Once? Twice? Never? Just thrown your hands up in disgust and walked away?
Some of us have done it numerous times, even on the internet and it works. Or you can just shoot your computer screen, punch a couple of walls and get drunk.

Let's just be thankful that the Vatican hasn't developed a tank! Then we could throw religion into the mix. Imagine what a flame war could result from that!! I've only recently joined this site and have learned some invaluable lessons on--horrors!--model making. I'm not the LEAST bit interested in anyone's politics nor in their religion. Kudos to you, Sven, for your timely reminder.

After a long hiatus I have retured to this amazing community and website, only to see a glaring political abuse of the hobby posted on the front page. It saddens me to see that Armorama has fallen to this and I hope it will not repeat itself.
In my club we have very very few rules, but one of them is that you check you hat, coat and political opinions at the door. politics should be kept away from this hobby at all costs, and I hope that Armorama staff understands the error and make sure it doesn't happen again.

I don't know what you are refering to. Do you mind clarifying that for me (us)?

I agree with Sven's original post. A lot of legitamite posts are hijacked and taken over by haters or cheerleaders of a certain brand or company. I've been here since 2002 and have seen a big change in the tone and courtesy of a lot of posts. I just feel that a lot of time the fun aspect is taken out of this hobby.

. It's because of the radicals and the liberal and the conservative modellers , they just can't agree on anything . Then there are the communist and the anarchists, they like to mess things up .

Guys, guys, do you not check how old the messages are before you reply to/ quote them?
The thread was "dead" since 29th May 2015, but was "reactivated" yesterday by Matan Ram with the following statement "After a long hiatus I have retured to this amazing community and website, only to see a glaring political abuse of the hobby posted on the front page. It saddens me to see that Armorama has fallen to this and I hope it will not repeat itself.".
This post caused Jonathan and myself to ask what Matan Ram what he was refering to, since it wasn't obvious from his post.
Just saying... Of course, there is no rule against reviving a thread, is there? Anyhow, maybe Matan Ram would like to comment what he was talking about?

I always try and give good advice that has been infiltrated with real life military experience and 40 years of tank modeling. My intent has always been to save modelers some money that is a direct result of my upbringing...that is to value the dollar and getting the 'biggest bang for the buck". With that comes an opinion that the newest kits out there may or may not be the best value for your money that construction using multiple kits may be the perfect solution for you (example: Dragon's release of the Blitz with 2cm Flak 38). There are always 'end arounds' when building 1/35 armor and I focus on helping you with alternatives. Not buying a new release is not kit bashing with me...it's showing that whats in your closet just might be the two or three kits that makes the one just released.

I believe I know what Matan is referring to, and I have made one minor change. I am not inclined to make any other changes unless instructed to do so.
I hope everyone is happy... Well, you never know...
