I'm dreaming about an ELSROV. Guess it's not the case.

Well, it doesn't look much like a gas turbine engine part to me... Also I know I DO WANT early M1 kit, so it cannot be it

Probably until the manufacturer, whoever that is, is ready to go public with the release

I don't think so. In Rob's original post, the pic is of an engine that has no lower hull. You can see straight through to the pavement, and a yellow lane/parking spot line, below. Based on this, I still vote for a wheeled vehicle.

I think it might even be a foreign vehicle, not U.S. as Rob travels a lot (and he was in South Korea recently).
Whatever it is, the engine must be covered by a hood or panel as it's pretty clean. It could even be some deck tug or (ship) maintenance vehicle as it seems the engine hasn't really been weathered and dirtied by being out in the field.
Question is...do we really want it? And I suppose another question would be if the kit has the engine included (which I am assuming it will).
Is it an old Land Rover engine?

agree with the wheeled vehicle claimers.... judging by the amount of what appears to be aluminum in the engine parts we see it looks like weight might be a concern. The alternators pretty big but the fan isnt all that large. as was also stated there doesnt appear to be an armor underneath, I almost wonder if its another kind of civilian vehicle used by the military or special operators....?

Gino I Think its a M916. A while back Rob was looking for a 1/32 Freightliner bonnet. I think Rob built one and this is it produced by a company from the far east.

I have been spending an inordinately large amount of time researching this topic because that motor (while I am no motor guy) I recognize but cant place. I dont think its a CUCV, as the Alternator is on the wrong side for the Chevy diesels that I saw, and is too small to be a 916 motor. My gut keeps going back to a car I had when I was younger. I had a Chevy C-10 V8 and a Ford Bronco II. I have searched and searched and cant find a motor with the correct alternator (I think its a REMY?), idler tensioner ( the thing in the middle of the photo I assume), and metal fan blade shroud set up..... GRRRRRRRR
(the last thing I spent this kind of time on was how does a howitzer fire when it uses propellant bags) .. got my answer quicker LOL (and why am I up at 4 and 5 am ??? two children under 3 and a job that gets me up at all hours of the night)

I agree, way too small for an M916 engine.
It could possibly be a more updated CUCV-style vehicle. Maybe a PMC guntruck based on a Chevy 3500 pickup.
This is a '98 Chevy C/K 3500 6.5 liter diesel engine from a similar angle. It looks to have the same alternator mount and fan bearing mount. I think it is the same basic engine.
Here is the original pic for comparison.

The engines to pretty much look alike. the minor differences I see could be do to year of the truck and the difference between civil and military use.
If its not a CUCV, then we have to figure out what other military vehicle uses Chevy engines.

He never said it was a military vehicle. I still vote (hope) for a PMC Guntruck. The aluminum/rubber fan shroud looks like a home-made/rebuilt as it was armored-up type conversion.

The hood base looks too short so it has to be a vehicle where the back of the power pack and transmission sit under the cab. I think its a M916A1 or it could be a MTVR WRECKER.

Nope, it is definitely not an M916A1. The M916A1 uses a totally different, Detroit Diesel in-line 6 cylinder engine. The hood base looks too short so it has to be a vehicle where the back of the power pack and transmission sit under the cab. I think its a M916A1 or it could be a MTVR WRECKER.
No on the MTVR Wrecker too. It also uses an in-line 6 cylinder CAT engine, which is yellow.
The engine is definitely not an in-line 6 cylinder. I am going w/the GM 6.5 liter v-8 diesel.

You are on it Sir!!!! thats the chevy 6.5, and I think that it might be going into either the truck you described ( Like the IPs used to have), a civilian model Hummer H1, or POSSIBLY the BRV-O.
this is a turbo model but the base models show the alternator and the tensioner spring in the right spots
This is on a H-1
and this one isa toyota FJ crusier....

The mystery image above only shows part of the front end of the engine, the other image is only there for comparison.
We're looking for an engine squeezed in behind a somewhat "home-made" looking fan shroud (aluminum pieces welded together) ... The belt for the alternator should also have a tensioning roller.
