Stop it, Greg! You're going to give me a big head! Hahah. Tha k you for the kind words.
I still need to spray the matte coat, but it's been raining here all day, so I didn't get to that yet.
As for the dry brushing, I did the outside edge of the track. Are you referring to the guide horns?
Cheers,
Dustin

Yes and the tops of those small squares between the cleats on the outside of the track. Steal may be too bright maybe dark matalic gray? I believe the metal the track was made from was a darker color metal.

I felt like perhaps that may be a bit bright.. But should tone down with a matte coat and a dusting of buff.
I didn't do the guide horns because I didn't want to get the metal color all over the road wheels.

Dustin it is coming out great. Really like the way the tracks look and the dusting of buff should look really nice.

Ok fellas, I know I said I wasn't going to do any mud.. Mainly because I wasn't happy how it turned out when I did it in the Pz. IV I built. But I said what the hell and bit the bullet and tried it anyways with a different technique.
Be gentle.. Haha
I first did the inside of the hull last night. Today I "splashed some light dust/mud on the rear of the upper hull and road wheels using two different colors. Then I used dark mud and European dust pigments on the road wheels and tracks.
Thoughts?
Cheers,
Dustin

Awesome! Been silently watching this build, but I gotta say the mud is awesome. Looks completely natural. I've been around some muddy panzers and tanks at a considerably rainy WWII reenactment and judging by that alone, this is perfect. I would just maybe adjust it on the front fenders? The mud spatter stops kind of abruptly and looks just a little unnatural. Everything else looks great to me though.
Great build overall too, I'm starting a Panther as well and this build was a big motivation.

Conor,
Thank you very much for the kind comments. It makes me feel better about the mud. I was nervous going into it, but honestly.. It was easy. So that gives me confidence to try more pigments.
As for the fenders, I used pigment fixer.. And it seems to be stuck on there. Any advice to clean it up? Thinner?
Glad to have you following a long, sir.
Cheers,
Dustin
EDIT: I'm glad this has inspired you to build a Panther. I hope you'll post pictures as you go.

The mud/dirt/dust looks exceptional. Very convincing but nor overdone. I think for your next project you need to add it to a base with some simple groundwork and see how well you can tie the two together. Just a thought as it seems to me to be the next logical step.

Thank you very much. That makes me feel good, honestly.
I do have a small base, so I think I'll take your recommendation on making one.
I have an idea for one, that I've been thinking of. It's very simple, and probably perfect for my first attempt at this.. I think.
I'll be using the King Tiger I'm building, on a small base in a tall grass field. Not too much at once for my first try and just simple enough. A KT in a tall grass field.. Seems fitting?
EDIT: You meant add the Panther to a base? Hmmm. There's a thought. Need to look for ideas.

You could add the Panther but the KT Ideas sounds promising as well. You're the artist so it's entirely up to you.

Dustin,
The dusty rear end sure looks the part alright. Indeed you've done well to this old dog a kit!
Cheers,
Tat

I'm calling this completed. This is my 2nd completed model.
I've learned a lot more this time and I feel like a pushed myself a bit further with new techniques. I'm pretty pleased with how this turned out. Although I wish I would have used after market tracks and PE grills.
Thanks for all of the help, advice and words of encouragement.
Cheers,
Dustin

Well worth the effort I'd say. Well done in all aspects. Is that the beginning of a base I see under that cat?

Thank you very much, Armorsmith.
I do have a base for this, although I won't be working on it just yet. I need to do some studying on how to build one properly and gather some items to build it. Such as ground work and what not.
Cheers,
Dustin
