Oh my God, poor Ted. Has he lost a thumb?

Magnificent! I think I'll outsource all of my PE work to you, since you are a wizard at it. The painting on this is awesome too. I love how you can get the boring, monotone OD green and make it interesting and pop. Everything really blends too, nothing looks out of place or anything. Great stuff boss.

Mike and Conor,
Thanks for stopping by guys and as always, thanks for the kind remarks.
Conor, yes, nice pick-up on the thumb. I read about a guy during this fight that lost a digit. I don't remember if it was his thumb or not but I decided to not replace this guys' thumb when I was re-positioning his hand to show that.
I find I have to replace thumbs quite a lot to make hands conform to whatever they are supposed to be holding.

Great update Jerry- I like the various additions you have made like the grenades ready to use, the blood and missing digit and the broken radio at the bottom of the hill.

Dale,Nick,JG and Karl,
Thanks good buddies for checking in and making the nice remarks. I am done with this one but have given up trying to get the pics to look like a dreary day. My photog skills are not even as good as my computer skills, which suck!!
So I will have to resort to waiting for a cloudy, misty day for the correct diffusion of light ala Nick and his stupendous outdoor shots.
Stay tuned is all I can say at the moment.

I was lucky the one time I was in Normandy, It was early June 1978. I was there for about 3 days and the weather was awesome the whole time. Not even any clouds!

Thanks Patrick,
That was a very very nice thing to say buddy.
I did not have a good day as far as this dio goes. It did get pretty cloudy in the PM here so I decided I better try for some pics. Somehow, between going from the cellar to the porch outside I managed to break 5 things! I then took some pics and they did not turn out well so I quit while I was ahead.
Make some repairs and then go again tomorrow hopefully.

Casualties were heavy in KIA and WIA that December day on the heights above Trois Ponts but the bulk of the company made it back across the Salm and dug in with the rest of the Bn along the west side of the river. The Germans would get no further.

Excellent stuff Jerry.

One small request... could you post a picture of the whole diorama please?

Cheers

whoa! Jerry - man, this turned out really well! the first guy, running toward us looks great - same with the guy sliding down the rock face - really dynamic - as though you caught the real event on film! same with the overcoat guy - nice movement from some static figures! obviously the whole thing looks great - but, this time through my focus is on the way you have made the motion seem real - worth the wait for you to post!

cheers,
Nick

Brilliant as always Jerry. Whenever I see that you're starting a new dio I always follow it with great interest as you're one of that rare breed of modellers that every piece of work is consistently fantastic. The fact that you pose your figures according to the situation rather than those who work OOB to hopefully fit in with the idea goes such a long way. They're so natural looking and as always the painting is superb. The viewer can relate to the figures and almost hear the dialogue looking at them. It's a rare modeller that can do that. I've got to admit I'd much rather work on figures than vehicles as there's more room for manoeuvre to get your point across. Something you perfect every time. As you're one of the best "figure men" out there I always follow with great interest. I look forward to the next dio. Top job mate!

Need I say anything? This scene is much bigger than I had thought- the groundwork is even better than I thought it was originally. I know I'm repeating myself but everything blends together perfectly.

I had better see this on display at Valley Forge in a couple months!!

As per Seans and Mike Roofs' requests, here are more pics. They wanted a pic of the whole dio. The first one here includes just about every square centimeter.

The light was much brighter in these pics. I did not post them before because I wanted more gloom. But hey...I never claimed to be a good photographer.

Anyway, there we go. Hope you enjoy them. I included the last one because it shows a nice progression of going over the edge. Running up,sliding down and then ass over teakettle. My lame attempt at showing motion.

Thanks Nick my man,
I tried some new stuff here that my not seem readily apparent. There is a bit of dirt and debris tumbling down with the sliding guy as well as two rocks I tried to show in mid air?
Thanks for the always kind comments buddy. Can't wait to see your next extravaganza!

Thanks Kurt, for typing in such nice remarks about my humble efforts. I am now like yourself and more interested in building and modifying figs as the human element is what tells the story. I now thing of vehicles as just props. I used to build the tanks, etc as the focal point with the figs as something to give scale. Now I like the "story" more.
Personal taste,that's all.
Thanks so much for taking the time to type all that man!
