Jerry,
Where in MN did you do your training?
Dan
Hello Dan!
I was up there in Camp Ripley 3 times. Once for getting qualified as a winter warfare instructor, then returning to train the company I was in at the time. The third time was during the summer to be on the eval. team working with the Mn National Guard.
Had some free time during that one to enjoy the upper Mississipi. Lots of turtles!
But man...that winter stuff was brutal! Average temp without windchill was around zero F
J
Jerry, that's actually in central MN, if you were in northern MN the temps would have been real brutal! Glad that you got out to visit the state a bit.

Awesome war face! Damn. Only thing I might add is a bit of gloss to the blood running down his hand, give it a bit more of a realistic and fresh look, not to mention accentuate it a bit more.
-Conor
And, if I may, some tiny spots of blood on the ground, once you have determined his exact position on the base. THe place where he is lying looks kind of clean at the moment...

Greg,Conor,Dan and Nic,
Thanks guys for typing in your comments. Nice of you to take the time to do so.
The gloss paint is a good idea,I had thought of that after I saw these pics online. Also needs some slight metallic touches on the webgear.
The spots and drops of blood are also a nice idea and it will be on here. The road surface isn't quite done yet as I am waiting for the final decision on placing the figs as I will have to adjust the road to the fig first. That is why the road looks so monotone.
I should have pointed out that this was an in progress set of pics,I suppose.Or maybe it's better to just wait until I am finished to post? Dunno, guess it's a horse apiece.

Please continue to post the WIP pics. You have a nice pace and I've always enjoyed seeing the progress of your creations from beginning to completion. IMHO.

Hi Jerry - well, I'll bet Mike and I are not remotely alone in appreciating your WIP. I can't speak for anyone else as to why, but I find the steps very helpful - and aspirational! I remember you built a snow bound cold guy a while ago - layer after layer of clothing you added to him, and somehow kept them to scale, and, not to let any detail pass you by, the layers were textured!! My Jerry J-peg file is thick!!!
As for the current guy, the only thing I might suggest is that his scarf, or whatever is under his coat be a lighter shade, or maybe have some beige or tan in it - just for some contrast. Oh, and I'll say it again, the rock out cropping and details are awesome. Makes me want to put down my Xacto and brushes and go home!!
Take care

OK so...WIP pics it is. Yes,the scarf did kind of get lost a bit, didn't it? It's so hard to try to keep the colors realistic plus make them pop as the colors in these WWII uniforms didn't have much contrast. Ah well,it's a work in progress and my learning never stops. I hope, anyway!
I was pretty proud of this guy. I thought I had stepped up my face and uniform painting with him a few notches. Maybe a walk is in order right about now.

In your defense I don't think the blood is a big deal, it's a great figure and looks good- no matter how much I zoom in. Be proud of this poor grunt.

No no! You were correct about the blood. I added gloss today and it looks much better.
I was thinking more along the lines of not posting anything till it's ready,so there are no misunderstandings. No biggy

Jerry, no walk needed. The figure is awesome! Can't wait to see it with the glossy bloodied arm and leg....better him than me! I'd be very proud of him, and all the guys you create, there are only a handful of you artisans around you know!
Keep it going....

Have to agree with the other guys- no need to take a walk to re-consider anything Jerry! I think you've nailed the look on this wounded guy- the expression conveys the pain and struggle and the wounds are well observed. A little gloss should bring them out more so than they already are. Don't stop posting the WIP's either- to me they are a great way to learn how to approach modifying figures- I've learned so much from watching your builds come together- and I reckon I'm not the only one!

Dave and Karl,
Thanks for the words of encouragement men! I did take a walk on my elliptical machine for 30 minutes. Always feels better after that.
Reading my comments again it sounds like I am sniveling way more than I really am! LoL
So,Yes,I added the gloss and also some metal effects and also finished another guys' paint so-onward and hopefully upward!
Oh yeah,I also changed the positions of the players around a bit to support a sub-plot I came up with after re-reading this chapter in the DITM number three.
I am continuing to try to present the over-all concept of showing how the Infantry works in combat as so little is known by the public. Movies never get it right until very recently there has been some accurate stuff. And dios,well......what can I say? Seems to be a lot of guys standing around pointing? Heheheh
OK,waaaay too much coffee. No sugar though,I have been a good boy.

Alright alright I got ya! Just haul a-s buddy!
I wonder if he knows about how far that first step is!!?
Figs are just set in place for now but you get the idea on the first three guys.

It's amazing how the background photograph just accentuates the already great figures. Good sense of movement and urgency portrayed.

Hi Jerry - once again you get static plastic and resin to look dynamic - good show. I'll also once again say wow about that rock out cropping and vegetation - plus your figures, and the whole thing looks awfully good.
Oh, yeah, I build guys standing around, bending into trucks, hidden behind stuff, and pointing because I can't get half of what do out of these little guys!! Haha -
Looking forward to the next episode -
Cheers

Nice work Jerry
Conor already said the words , good source of urgency in action.
The back drop blend the urgency altogether.
Well done.

The sense of alarm and drama in this scene is already coming out brilliantly with these two figures. I've got to mentioned that backdrop too- it just suits the scene so well and makes it look very natural.

Ola jerry
Spending more time on fb has its downsides. I'm missing a lot of great work here. Spend some time reading through this thread. Pretty awesome. Good story and I really like the figure conversions. Looking forward how this is going to end

Wow!! Thanks all,for the very very nice comments. I take pride in always trying to answer each one individually but I think I got too far behind!! So you all will have to accept a blanket thank you!! I hope this will in no way diminish my appreciation in everyones' mind?
I do have a question for everyone though. I am in no way a photographer. I picked that backdrop pic as it had mostly pines in it but I have no idea how to achieve a dark-overcast kind of day look. I think that is what is missing here but it is quite beyond my abilities. Heheh,I suppose this is why a director has a professional cinematographer? Sorry, frustrated film maker coming out again,

Hi Jerry ,
nice work again like i said before
Don't worry you can thank me later hehehe .
About your question , did you try already to adjust the light effect on the picture by reducing the light balance ??? If you know what i mean ??
