Don't know if you've already tried this but ............
Nick if you're working with Plastruct or Evergreen material try using a super fine grit sandpaper and give it a few passes on the to be glued areas .
I find that those types of plastics have a sheen on them and roughing the area up will make glue stick like glue .

Looks to me, Nick, like some wacky art installation from the lobby of the Tyrell Corp!




Took the words right out of my mouth, Barry! To me the hipster bar structure is reminiscent of an area in Duke Nukem. I can still hear that gravelly voice: "Shake it, Baby!"

Material is used for the go go dancers pantyhose or the dance floor with lighting coming up thru it.

Hi Nick, I think I may be able to suggest a partial solution for a few of your lighting needs... I have an incomplete HO scale project simulating a ghetto Brooklyn NY scene in which I have installed various neon light signs which you may find as an interesting option. The company's brand name is LIGHT WORKS USA sold via website www.microstru.com AKA Miller Engineering. I bought several sets off their eBay store for a discount many years ago. Very, very simple installation and great prices! They offer various scales to fit your needs... Awayway, here's a couple pictures of my other train project and one of the neon lights - GO-GO Girl sign. Hope you find this helpful.

Dave - the wall panel is corrugated plastic I purchased at Blick's are supply - its light and fairly rigid - so, pretty good!

Beautifully done Nick , I know how hard it was to make the half round facade piece over the entrance , bracing , alignment , etc. bet you lost a few hairs over that , aint modeling grand .
The bar and taps are very cool , looks like you've got lots of shelves for stock .

My only query is...how does one get into the bar to mix the drinks?

So, in addition to liking to build models....it seems more than a few of us enjoy a beer or two now and then!! not that i ever doubted that!

Thanks for the comments guys! I'll make sure you can see those taps when this is done, and, Cheyenne, you are right on each point....ugh!

My strategy for this corner building is to build the shell first - and rough in the interior - really just like making a big vehicle - except, working from the outside in. This is (i think) a product of scale an convenience, unlike an AFV. You'll see below, the building exterior is wrapped up - onto primer:









As you can see above, all three/four stories together - and below, painted up:







Next up: rust, grime and decrepitude! - Once the "appearance" is taken care of, I'll go back inside and tackle wiring and interiors - so far, and for such a (relatively) huge building, so good - despite the somewhat oblique photos, it's actually pretty close to being square, and fairly durable/rigid and not flimsy. I also thankfully sits pretty well on my still to be painted/detailed ground floor.

Don't worry one bit about the convergence in the photos. I would rather have you spend you money on building materials than a Perspective Correction lens.

That's a lot like Doc Brown apologizing to Marty for his demonstration model's lack of detail and sometimes being slightly out of scale.

I agree with all about mad skills. Two questions on the buildings.

1. How are you bending the piping to get the "C" on the four pipes?

2. Noticed this on building 2, what is purpose for the location of the bends?

Nick, I have been wanting to ask that same question!

Pipes bent in this shape are usually heating pipes or hot pipes of some kind. These bends are to allow for expansion of the metal piping.

My question: How do you get them so perfectly concentric????

Anything I might try would never, EVER be that perfect!

Mike and Ryan - about those pipes....simply some cool looking, unused stuff from my HO model days! yes - the "c" areas are for expansion - heated, pressurized materials in those pipes!! yes, you can build them though, and get pretty close to those shown - use aluminum tubing, with snug fitting solder inside and bend away! with some practice you can get some pretty good looking
tubing!
