I had thought that I had posted some of the build pictures...but I had not. So let's start off with the introduction...I will be building Trumpeter's Chinese 122mm Type 89 multi-barrel rocket launcher in 1/35 scale (#00307). That's a mouthful. It's a 2002 kit.
The vehicle is kind of neat. It's a Chinese version of the Russian BM-21 rocket launcher. It holds 40 122mm rockets. The launcher in mounted on the same chassis as their Type 83 152mm self-propelled howitzer. It has a reload pack mounted in front of the launcher.
The kit has an interior though you really won't be able to see much of it. I began with the engine and drive-train. The engine is molded in silver-ish styrene. It's actually a nice looking motor...and you won't see much of it. You have the transmission, driver's seat, gearbox, and an air compressor. All look pretty nice...a shame since you won't be able to see much of it.
I decided to give the interior a basic paint job. Not trying to be funny but even with the hatches open you really will not be able to see much of the interior. I went ahead and gathered up parts to be painted white for the interior. And of course I missed a couple...but I'll get those later.
I did go ahead and assemble the interior compartment walls. I was going to paint them un-assembled but it would just be added work to clean-up for actual assembly.
Paint dried and all the bits put in the body. Additional paint was done per instructions. You can see the cooling fan...which I had not included in a previous picture. It's a nice looking basic interior. If I had another use for it I would probably have left it out and sealed the kit up. I assume the Type 83 SF Arty comes with the engine and trans as well.
And here's the lower hull with the suspension arms and bits added. And in the foreground are the road wheels, idlers, and drive sprockets.
