Beautifully done 21cm Mrs 16 there Colin.
So my sFH18 is over the line
It's not chipped, washed, weathered and mudded as I think I'll wait till I have the 8-tonner built to tow it (Trumpeter campaign). Thanks for the warning about the aiming poles Mike, although Dragon's painting instructions had aroused suspicions and I was working off the box art

You modelers are giving the King of the Battlefield, ARTILLERY, it's proper recognition with all these wonderful builds. Besides all the new, high tech kits, I love seeing some vintage models being made. Tamiya's Pak 40, 88mm, and 25 pounder howitzer are perfect examples. Great job all. Bill

Looks great sFH18, Richard.
And a real look with Suchka, Angel Yovtchev. About the canvas/tent, is it from kit or hand-making?
Regards,

Some truly fantastic builds going on here in the Artillery campaign. I'm amazed at the shear scope of subjects. Field pieces to Self Propelled guns.....black powder/shot to modern munitions.....it's all represented so well. Keep up the wonderful works Modelers.

The Trumpeter Soviet D-74 is finished. It is from the late 50s or early 60s and is built as if it were being moved behind a truck from one spot to another. The kit was a lot of fun to build and went together well aside from some PE footman's loops I gave up on. My very modest skills got stretched some with this one.

All these amazing builds have inspired me to join the fray at the 11th hour.
I don't tackle many modern subjects, so this is new territory for me. Big calibre gun with several attendants. Looks like fun.
Instructions show a straight forward assembly. However there are some really tiny parts to deal with. Looks like tweezer work. Yikes!
Mold quality looks very nice. There are crisp details and no flash to be seen.
The sculpting quality of the figures seems alright, though a little stiff. A little bit of converting looks necessary. I like the inclusion of extras(personal gear, weapon, and shells).
I'm looking forward to a fun campaign and getting inspiration from everyone's wonderful builds. Bill

Bill - Is your recoilless rifle a rocket launch tube like a Bazooka?
A recoilless rifle is kind of a cross between a regular artillery piece and a rocket launcher. It has a breech with openings to allow enough propellant gas to offset the the normal recoil.

Thanks Gary for answering Paul's inquiry. I wanted to make something other than my normal WW2 subjects. The Chinese 105mm recoilless gun stood out from my stash. Being a hybrid artillery piece, I hope it still qualifies for the campaign. Fingers crossed. Bill

1st update on PLA 105mm recoilless gun.
On the right, the breach is assembled. Very tiny parts! The trunnion/carriage is on the left. This went together with no issues.
Trunnion/carriage looks nice. Old school, two halves barrel is ready for glue. Careful cleaning up the barrel so as not to lose delicate detailing.
Work begins on the figures. I'm converting the commander figure to achieve a more natural pose.
As seen on the box art, the commander figure has quite a stiff and unnatural pose. Adding legs and arms from spares, a much better pose is resultant.
Thanks for watching. More updates coming soon. Happy modeling.

Update on PLA 105mm recoilless gun.
Every construction step contained minuscule parts. Tweezers and a steady hand were required. Pfew!
Construction is finished. Note: I had to add a replacement part(made of styrene) where the elevation piston mates to the barrel.
Assembly of the crew figures continues. Thanks for viewing. Bill
