I use less than 1 g of the 'free' 2 g option still, in around 8 years of usage.. I think this 'strategy' is to lose some of the users who feel it necessary to have 5000 + pics on their free account. This could be considered abusing the free system , and we all know humans don't abuse anything , just ask one.
I've been watching the ladyfest on a number of forums and the instant migration of many users is prolly what PB wanted. Many are going to sites where they don't realize the same thing is coming ,and that right quick. If PB gets away with it then the others will follow suit. How do you feel about paying for FaceBook?
The first one who comes up with a fair price and fair space for the price , will reap the benefits. Forums themselves are not capable of this or it wold have happened.
GREED , and more GREED. Greedy users taking more than their fair share of available space , and greedy suppliers seeing a revuenue stream developing.
Capitalism defined.

Quoted TextSo how long before Flickr, Imgur, and all the others follow Photobucket's lead? ...
Eventually all of them, simply because it cost money to run the host. And with most people pulling their images off PB, well you get the idea...
Exactly! Data storage equipment is not cheap, data center space to house all equipment is not cheap either.
Like it or not, most if not all, of the "free" storage services will be charging at one point or another.

Dumped photobucket recently.
Opened up 3 separate accounts Imgur, Imageshack and flikr
The more I share around the less likely I will get caught with image providers like Photobucket wanting to ransom its users $400 dollars a year.
It's just a right pain in the ___ of reposting the images. Almost finished the Takom Tiger 2 dio

Then there is the big one which will take some time

Very slowly. Enterprise disks price trends are not the same as retail HD/SSD.

Well. I don't think this is abuse or non-fair use. If you can fit 5000 pics in your 2GB free account then so be it. 10 images or 5000 images, at the end of the day it still 2GB of free space.

For what it's worth, this method works in Firefox. I'm going to try it in Safari and IE and Windows next, then share the results...
After you've opened new accounts elsewhere, which I did, please don't delete your PB public blog albums, and this is why:
I can still view your blog with images you've posted "third party hosting" in the forums without you paying 4 decks of cards.
1) I'm at your blog thread because your model subject title caught my attention.
2) I RIGHT CLICK any one of your posted images that now look like that dial and warning message we've now all seen and choose View Image.
3) A new window opens and it either opens that image or I get the dial and warning image instead. From there I click the link above and to the left, "Uploaded By ... so and so
4) This takes me to their public library.
5) I scroll around to find the specific album of the blog I'm looking for.
6) Click on that album and the album page 1 will open and show a whole page of thumbnails.
7) Stay on page 1 for approx. 30 seconds to 1 minute. Yes, I had to play shooting gallery with all the ads, that cannot be avoided. What is happening is that all of the images are cache to my computer. I had to do this with each page if more than 1 in the album.
8) go back to the blog thread or open a new browser window and return to the blog thread.
9) Now all of your pictures are cache and I can now view you blog with pictures like you intended.
internet speeds vary so this will affect this method. Try it

Y'all have me curious, so I just waded through the ad-crap on my "free" PB account to grab an image, and am trying to link it here. I only use 3% of my bucket, so maybe it'll still work? If not, oh well.
[EDIT: looks like it worked ok? Or is it just cached?...]
[EDIT#2: It's now Friday 14 July and my pic has been replaced by the dreaded dial. Goodbye, PhotoFubar!]

Thats the same account I use, only .99 cent a month,I have 10 gig storage and I use 35% so far no changes.Hopefully it will remain that way because once I got rid of the ads I have no issue with Photobucket.

Anthony, I don't think, on the long run, that your .99ȼ account will survive the PB change. The terms specifically state which accounts can do 3rd party image hosting.
My thought is that eventually all accounts that do not meet the 3rd party image hosting will be blocked as they have done lately. It just takes time to go over the 100,000,000+ accounts.

I also recently dumped Photobucket. The site is painfully slow and cumbersome to use. I already had an Imgur account so the switch was easy. I also might check out the Facebook method and check into Flickr (which I forgot even existed until I saw someone mention it here). I've used Imageshack but I think I ran into similar problems as I did with PB. I'll have to check back into it.

🔒.. As many are currently experiencing, all of my Photobucket (free account) images are no longer visible here! If you poke around the forums these days, you’ll find that thousands of image links have already been severed.
No thanks Photof**cket, you won’t be scamming $399.99/year out of me!!!
They’re coming to take me away, ha ha, they’re coming to take me away, ho ho he he ha ha …

I find Photobucket is not what it used to be more adds and constant when you click on anything. The new format stinks you can not magnify the pictures any more. I just used it and after a few pictures it freezes.
I have about 200 pictures to up load on my scratch built models that I have on the bench right now and should I look for a new host as well or wait until I start having problems with them.

Cheers,
Ralph
Hi Ralph.
To get your images to seen, i did ad ~original at the end of the url
http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag103/scratch-builder/0503_zpse475a2f2.jpg~original
This trick seems to work on most times, but somehow it wont work on Missing-Lynx...... I do not understand why?

Photobuckets' poor business model and mis-management has led to this problem. So they are either trying to drive customers away to make their problems more manageable or/and they are trying to raise money to expand their capabilities to support the number of users they have. Whichever it is they are going about it the wrong way. Long term loyal users are jumping ship fast.
