Time to actually do something!
As proof I haven't already done it all before the actual start date
As there were 3 choices of Pz I A series 3, the best option is
The one big issue with the build is the turret, there is a resin conversion at leadwarrier,
http://www.leadwarrior.com/Lw35005h.htm
But they wouldn't negotiate down from $20 inc. P&P by even a couple of $'s, so I decided to do it myself, and as I already had the Aber Breda barrel, I was 1/2 way there.
If you couldn't sort out the turret, the remainder is irrelevant.
So the turret, finally done after some interesting scratch building.
The reference
And the build
The full turret build is on my Imgur account if anyone is interested.
Next up, to get as close to the reference photos,
I think the soldiers greatcoat is a WWI German single breasted, but if anyone has another insight, Please let me know.
I think it will make a nice little base and build, now the turret has been sorted out.
Happy Christmas to one and all

The coat in fact is a spanish coat. The soldier is a leutnant of the Bandera de Carros of the spanish Legion. With a basque beret and a skull badge.

Nice work on that turret conversion Steve, I have a shelf queen of this tank, so it's nice to see someone doing this one. Can anyone help identify the colors of the camouflage on that tank behind the officer with the greatcoat?

Tamiya XF-26 Deep Green, XF-10 Flat Brown, and XF-60 Dark Yellow.
That should get you real close.
Star has some good decals and marking guides for the SCW armor.

Thanks Robert, as I understand it those are the standard colors for the PZ I tanks in the SCW. The tank in Steve's second photo that I mentioned, seems different to me. The camo is hard edged, and I do not see any evidence of the yellow bands like the ones in Steve's first photo.
Here is another photo of what I believe is that tank:
...and another which seems to be a similar scheme:
Sorry, I'm not trying to be argumentative, but this is why it has been a shelf queen for so long, and I would really like to do this version of the camo.

Thanks for the great coat info,
I just need to find a look a like in 1:35, somewhere?
As for the colours and camo pattern, I shall use these
https://ak-interactive.com/product/spanish-civil-war-colors/
I have a previous attempt
I used Vallejo model colour, base is Japanese uniform, yep, I know!?, but it is a reasonable match, with flat brown and park green and a lot of weathering.
There were Pz I's in the interwar 3 tone camo, then some were painted dark grey and became "Negrillos"
I shall crack on with the tank body in the new year and start the search for single breasted great coat.
Regards
Steve H

Hi SCW builders
Its been a busy Holiday break, but just a little update.
Photo etch next, and the first thing to consider, do yo need to use it all?
Not always, sometimes the PE isn't as good as the kit part, too flat usually!
The adjuster on the trailing idler wheel is a case of too much, it will destabilize the axle and doesn't add that much to a hard to see part of the build.
So the remaining PE bling for the running gear, sorry for the photos, not my best skill set!
and just because you can, the build as it is at the moment.
Next will be the tracks, just need to figure out which is left and which is right?
Regards

Few steps ahead with He-51B.
I think what's coming next will tell whether this will be fine or not, which is mounting the top wing. I keep forgetting that the plane has open cockpit, maybe I should try adding seatbelts after all.

Nice looking work going on here. Liking the HE51 a lot!
I spent a happy 3 or so hours building the running gear. Lots of little pieces and the instructions were little vague in places but they turned out okay I think.
Here’s a photo…
Cheers

Steve - Great progress on your panzer. The PE parts that you used do enhance the build. PE is great for replicating sheet metal structures but doesn't always work for castings or forgings.

Pasi - Your He-51 is off to a good start. Seat belts would be a nice upgrade and one that will be visible in an open cockpit.
These were sure great looking planes!

Matthew - I'm glad to see that you are making progress. I have not touched a model myself in weeks as the weather has been nice & cool and that is great for working on 1/1 projects outside.

Bit more progress on the Schneider CA1
The later Schneider CA1 had extra guards added to the running gear which are not included in the kit - so I scratched them.
The tracks are workable - just. In order to pop one into another you need to trim a little bit off the two "nipples" so that one track can enter the other.
I have scratched the fuel tanks as seen on the later versions that were used in Spain. Am quite pleased with how they turned out. Fortunately the kit included two extra fuel caps.
Since taking the last two photos I've sanded the bolts down so they are not too proud.
Cheers

Build almost complete…
And the tracks fit perfectly! Woohoo!
I want to get some AM Hotchkiss machine guns so will have to wait a bit until I can really finish the build and crack on with painting.
Cheers

Matthew - Your Schneider CA1 is really looking great. The extra scratching adds a lot to the build. The tracks were a PIA to clean and prep but they came out well in the end. Great job!

Thanks for the kind words Paul.
Work has got in the way of modelling, but I hope to get back to the Schneider the week after next, and maybe the AM Hotchkiss MGs will have arrived in the post by then.
Cheers

Steve,
I really like the Breda up-graded panzer I. I'm trying to imagine how it must have felt being in the turret with that thing recoiling (I assume it recoiled). Must have been tight.
BTW pleased to see there is someone else still posting in this campaign. Was thinking I was the last man standing...
Cheers

Keep the faith Matthew,
we still have nearly 4 months to paint and finish,
I'm off to build a prototype SturmTiger whilst I wait for the garage to defrost, so I can get out my AB and throw some paint at the Breda.
I still have 3 figures to try and scribe, to match up with the reference photo
I have the great coat guy well on the way, just the 2 drinkers? to do next.
Plenty of time for you to get that unique paint scheme done.
keep it up,the BT's might catch up!

hello all!
knew i'd put my name down for this campaign, then got it into my head it didn't start until sometime now, and on checking tonight realised its been on going for a couple of months!
so heres my entry, a little late to the party, but fingers crossed should be a fairly simple build (fingers crossed!)
its the old airfix Hs 123, a kit i've had knocking around for a about a year, since i finished a Ju 87 A in a similar scheme, really liked the look of this splinter camo, and wanted another kit (or two) in this splinter.
now i'd better get something glued or painted on this kit!

Quick update.
The ABER Hotchkiss MGs arrived in the post today. They’re now installed and look the job.
The pair of them cost as much the kit itself which is a bit eye watering…
I still think they're worth it (especially after I cocked up drilling out the barrels of the kit MGs.)
Cheers
Matthew
PS Steve, I've been inspired by your panzer I and have picked up the Hobby Boss (ex-Tristar, I think) panzer I A (early / late)...

Absolutely right Matthew, ex Tristar and if it has the MK tracks it will be a beautiful pain to build but so good too.
I still find it fascinating to think they were the size of a modern saloon car, but by necessity became the progenitors of Blitzkrieg and the Panzer development which peaked with the King tiger within 10 years
I still have over a dozen Pz IA's and B's and their variants in the stash
My favourite little tank, as Lt Gruber might have said LOL
Must be time for paint on your tank?
regards

@ steve, yes, time to go to the paintshop.
I added the last few pieces later last night: exhaust, intake grille, and the railings on the roof.
I have a vague idea for a little vignette, but the figures have a long way to go, and I certainly won't get it done by the end of the campaign. See below. There will be a modified tanker figure (I think by Dragon) offering up a bottle of wine.
Cheers
