I have decalred the model portion of my Berline'45 completed. All I have left is the wood trim and it's complete.

At last managed to get some photos into my gallery! I've moved on a lot further now as the building is completed so I'll post some more pics later. Still haven't decided whether to stick the T34 in at the Russian end of the street.. I've still got about 30 figures built up to place...lol [img]https://gallery.kitmaker.net/data/500/medium/halfway.JPG" />]

Reached a natural break as I've run out of superglue and I can't find my tub of pins so I thought I'd stick my up to date progress pics on. Still a lot of work to do however! I've now run out of rubble so I think the cat litters going to have to come out again. Only good thing you can say about cats is they had great scenic material developed for them! The pics show where I am at the moment [img]"https://gallery.kitmaker.net/data/500/medium/berlin45.jpg" /> [img]/img]

Looks like you linked the thumbnail and not the large pic.

Looks like we both had similar ideas in mind with Russians assaulting German defensive positions in the last days of Berlin

Alan, your idea of using the Pak 40 set my old grey matter whirring and I found three unbuilt ones in my stash so I thought I'd use one for the dio. I've tried to capture the chaos of street fighting but am not sure if I've got it yet. I've still not decided what to do with the other side of the street yet. I'm determined to get the hang of this posting pics

I took and developed this as a still life study for a photography course I'm doing. Most of the scenery and groundwork is in place except there's lots more rubble to go around the Hetzer and I might switch a JS 2 for the ISU 152, something about how the two assault guns look together is annoying me. Some surrendering Germans and Victorious Russians to be placed as well.

Well I still haven't decided what to do with the diorama. Something tells me I should make a larger dio including more vehicles than just the Panther and JS2, for example the ISU152, a PAK gun and a Sdkfz 251/1.

I'm also still trying things out with 1/72 buildings. Although I was happy with the detail on the first attempt, the wall was too weak and bend. So, I need stronger buildings...

@ all:
Hey, check out Alan's finished dio here.
Job well done Alan!

@ Pat,
Ah, a combined project! Looks great how the Hetzer is 'parked' in the wall.
I see what you mean about the 2 assault guns together. Perhaps it's a solution to let the ISU face the other way so you see the back? Than it looks like it just passed by the knocked out Hetzer and is following it's way.
I think that gives the dio more "focusing points"... Man, I feel hard to explain it in Dutch, not to tell English... but I try. People are likely to 'follow' a model by looking it from the back to the front; the eyes follow the path the vehicle would follow when it moves forward.
Your dio as in the picture has a triangular set up, and by placing the front's of the vehicles pointing to one point (center front) your eyes are "tracked" / focused to that point. By placing the ISU just in the other way, you have 2 focus points: 1 the knocked out Hetzer, and comming to the front of the vehicle you are automaticly "tracked" by the ISU's back, following that 'movement' to the second focus point (right - behind). It makes a more interestin dio, in my opinion.
I hope it make some sence... If not... well.. it came from a good heart :-)

@ Martin:
Can't you place something behind the walls, like cardboard or plastic sheet? It would be a pitty not to use them because they just look so great!!! Perhaps it helps if you use small plastic (3 mm wide) strips placed in a 90 degree angle (NL: haaks op elkaar) to the back of the wall, as support? Like a "T"

Hey Martin, that's indeed an idea.
I was thinking, must the backside of the buidings be visable? If not, perhaps longer, left-over sprue parts are a solution also (you know I'm Dutch; always looking for a cheap solution :-) )

Hmm possibly.....

I could also use a inside wall and ouside wall...like this:

[outside wall] - sprue - [inside wall]

Anyway does anyone have a list of units (both German and Soviet) which fought in Berlin, including their main equipment (tanks, if possible also artillery and transports)

Paul, thanks for the idea but the IS 152 hasn't room to pass the Hetzer, although it's not obvious from the photo. I got a lot of work done this weekend and will post an update tomorrow.
Here's a great site with a lot of pics of Berlin during and after the Battle

Pat, thanks, indeed a great link!

Martin, in earlier posts in this threads are some german units mentioned. I'll try to Google arround for some information next week, since I'm gone for a few days break at the Belgium coast
But I found this info on Wikipedia. It's a start...

Ok, I'm off now. See you all next weekend!!!!

Hi Paul,

Well this is what I can find on German forces:

XX Infantry Division
- Panzergrenadiers
- Stürmgeschutze (StuG3 or StuG4?)

IX Parachute Division
- Mainly untrained Luftwaffe personel, no real fallschirmjäger
- Made some good use of 88s

Panzer Division Müncheberg
- Tiger I
- Königstiger

XI SS Panzergrenadier Division Nordland
- SS-Panzergrenadier Regiment 23 Norge
- SS-Panzergrenadier Regiment 24 Danmark
- SS-Panzer Abteilung 11 Herman von Salza
- SS-Panzer Artillerie Regiment 11
- SS-Panzer-Aufklärungs Abteilung 11
- SS-Sturmgeschutz Abteilung 11
- SS-Panzerjäger Abteilung 11
- SS-Nachrichtung Abteilung 11
- SS-Pionier Battalion 11
- SS-Nachrichtung Abteilung Truppen 11
- SS-Nachschub Truppen 11
- SS-Instandsetzungs Abteilung 11
- SS-Wirtschafts Abteilung 11
- SS-Kriegsberichter-Zug 11
- SS-Feldgendarmerie-Trupp 11
- SS-Feldersatz-Battalion 11
- SS-Bewährungs-Kompanie 11
- SS-Sanitäts-Abteilung 11
- SS-Werfer-Battalion 521
- SS-Jäger-Regiment 11

Other units

- Volksturm
- Hitler jügend
- Police units

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

If anyone could improve this list, please do so

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I can see there were a SS panzerjäger and SS sturmgeschutze unit in Berlin. Does anyone know what armour they used? I want to include something like a Jagdpanzer of StuG in my diorama but I don't know which one would be historically accurate!

Martin I'm sorry but I've drawn a blank on SPG's in Berlin. I've had a good trawl but I can't find any reference pics.I'd say a STUG is a decent bet as they seem to have been everywhere. I know Charlemagne went into Berlin with no armour to reinforce Nordland so your guess is as good as mine on that one. I would have thought that there'd have been STUG's kicking about in the last few days as there was at least one Elefant in Berlin. I know an Elefant isn't the same deal but if something that odd at that stage of the war was there then I'd say a STUG is safe

Hey Martin,

This is what I like about these campaigns. Searching the net for answers :-)

StuG's were used in Berlin, but pictures are rare indeed.
My Russian is not that good, but I founs some Berlin StuG pictures on:

Looks great Martin. Am I right you have tramrails in the street? Nice idea!

Still looking for StuG pics: found this one at: http://www.ullsteinbild.de/search.php?search=berlin&date=1945

"Straßenszenen Bln (Berlin) 1945-49
Straßenszene mit zerstörten Häusern und liegengebliebenem Sturmgeschütz - Mai 1945"

EDIT:

And another variant: Berlin Neue Reichskanzlei - Panzer vor der Ruine in der Vossstraße

Hey guys, some nice progress in this campaign.
