Like Joe (mother) I share his sentiments and like many other here as well, change is tough.
But Jim (staff_Jim) you've done a fantastic job and continue to do so despite the various trials and tribulations and the once-every-4-years controversy cycles. After reading your replies in the other recent post that led to this one, I can only say you have only my respect and support and of course Grumpy's byline on his user signature.
We are all in your corner even though we may not always show it.

What annoys me is that the DSB's attempts to relocate itself is being meet with disappearing PMs (meaning someone is reading everybody's PRIVATE messages) when all we are doing is re-establishing ourselves in a new location and the only way to contact all our members right now is here.........
VIVA LA REVOLUTION! VIVA LA DSB!
Roderick,
What are you talking about? The post on ModelGeek?
I am not sure what you mean also about "DSB's attempts to relocate itself is being meet with disappearing..." What attempts? Mary already has a post up about the Relocated Modelors MSN group. What is it that you need to do via PM that you can't just do via a forum post? Sounds a bit conspiratorial to me from this angle.
I would prefer we not have any more wild accusations of private message reading or spying. This is kind of the whole point of what happened with Cliff. If you have some kind of real issue to raise I am about 2 clicks away to contact. If you want to spread propaganda about DSB persecution...well I have a button for that if need be.
Why is it that I feel like some of you want to be the opposition party for the site??? I don't need an opposition party thanks. I don't like political parties so if you want to have one please do it elsewhere.

One of my other hobbies is fire performing. One of the best web forums for that is called Home of Poi,
good grief.............another fire performer here!!!!!!
juglling and fire staff (learnt on a beach in Australia 12 years ago) and just beginning poi!!!!! Cool.
as for change - what a mammoth task for Jim and the mods. When a site like this starts, who is to know where it will go? The fact it's huge is testament to Jim and the policies he employs here. And generally to my eye, very little has changed. guess I can deal with change better than most!

To be my serious self, I do have a genuine concern over the dissapearing PMs, but I dont feel this is a big enough issue to spam your mail box with, so if possible, could you tell us what's going on?
I too would have genuine concerns.
If P.M's are being read and modified / deleted by moderaters (which I highly doubt)
I would have a real issue with it.
I really don't think would this be the case here on the big A. What makes you say this?

To be crystal clear on this idea that PMs be deleted by anyone (other than myself having access to the database that obviously stores all the data) they don't. There is no function for moderating or dealing with PMs from an admin level. There are roughly 37,000 messages currently in the system and 112,000 made since the site went online. Eventually we will have a system by which a member can report a PM they may find offensive or unwelcome. The TOS team will get that alert and deal with the situation accordingly so YES... they will READ your PM. This is no different on other sites with the same system.
As for this situation I would need more info. I can review your sent messages if you'd like and see what might have happened with the ones you claim disappeared. Do you want me to do that?
Jim

Perhaps I'm particularly dense, but I didn't notice any life -threatening cataclysmic changes to Armorama. I think there's a few more adverts, but I always ignored them anyway, so I think I just "filtered out " all the changes that are disliked so much! I only really look @ the armour stuff anyway (I'm very focused), so don't really miss the other stuff. But mainly, since I've never built a web site, & don't really know where I'd start, I'm just happy to let someone else do it any way they want! I chanced across Armorama about 18 months ago by chance, & I have to say I've never been upset by anything I've read on it. There have been times when I've thought "Get a life, mate", but that's their problem , not mine, I'm not going to get stressed about it! I have learnt a lot here, & continue to do so, & hopefully helped one or two guys a bit, so I'll be staying. (Sound of stampeding feet leaving in background!)

Just finished a bottle of red,so it all still looks good to me, :-) :-) :-)
things change, people move on,(and get older),the fact is this site exploded onto the scene.i was lucky enough to be in near the start and it was a laugh, things seem to be a wee bit more serious now,but you can get round that(knock the rivet counters)blow your stern pipes(paint and rock) and when we all get to modellers Heaven,i will be in the A Guard.

Okay.... I think I have figured out what happened. I had forgotten that I added some anti spam code about a year ago that was in a rough state and to be honest I didn't think was really working. Basically it looks for repeated duplicate messages sent by the same user. The rest of the ruleset I won't go into suffice to say Rod that your message triggered an automated response by the system and all your PMs were marked as recipient deleted.
I believe this was the series of messages in question.
The PM system is not a mass-mailing device. Please don't use it as such or your messages WILL be removed and you will waste a lot of work for nothing. Until now I honestly thought only a few unscrupulous vendors were doing this. If you want to have a DSB mailing list I suggest you gather emails and do it the old fashioned way.
That's all I am going to say on this matter for now. I have some thinking to do after some of the things I just read by members of the 'silly' 'fun' DSB.
